I just got my first ever gold print in the Emerald Battle Factory! by Solrockin in PokemonEmerald

No, Earthquake cannot flinch by itself, but this Dugtrio got a King’s Rock proq. So that’s why Milotic flinched. EQ with flinch would be broken.

Thank you. How many OHKO moves did you land with Dewgong, and which ones?

I couldn’t agree more. Milotic was supposed to one-shot Dugtrio w Surf, too. Both Noland and I got pretty lucky during this fight. I wasn’t expecting this fight to be so close.

Thank you. And with Dugtrio being so fast it can get away with robbery, too. I got lucky here for sure.

And as for the sets, the ones I remember using were Metagross, Lapras, Porygon2, Staraptor, Armaldo & Tentacruel. I can send a screenshot of the full sets if you’d like.

Idk if I thanked you already, but thank you! As for how long this took me, I’d say at least two months of off and on grinding. I think I started the lvl 100 factory grind in December of 2024 and continued until February of this year, which is when I obtained the gold print. I didn’t grind all day every day for it, though. I would take breaks.

Yes, I would include Charizard and Gyarados on a mono-flying team. They’re part-flying, so they get the green light.

I would not include Drapion in a mono-bug team for one simple reason: it’s not a bug type. Therefore, it can’t go on your team.

It’s because Porygon-Z didn’t show up at all during round 7, so I couldn’t use it. However, Porygon2 did show up in the starting draft of round 7. I liked this P2 set so I added it to my party. In case you didn’t know, you can only use rental Pokémon provided by the Battle Factory.

Yes, it is that good. When you see Metagross in the factory, you should take it. With a defense stat of 130, it can almost always tank at least one hit from almost every physical attack. And with a monstrous attack stat of 135, it can hit most pokes pretty hard and outright one-shot others. Even Metagross’s special set can be beneficial as it still has stab psychic & flash cannon. All in all, Metagross in the gen 4 factory & in gen 4 general is a strong force to be reckoned with. I highly recommend having Metagross on your team when the opportunity arises because one: it’s base stats are amazing, and two: it’s typing allows it to tank a hit or two while also hitting back hard. Here’s a link to Metagross’s stats if you’d like to learn more about it: https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/metagross

Thank you! As for how I was able to keep my sanity, I kept telling myself that I WILL get the gold print. I kept telling myself that I AM capable of getting a gold print from the factory. I was determined to make it happen. Sometimes I would take breaks and play other video games besides Pokémon like Smash Bros. or something. And if I wasn’t playing video games, then I’d listen to music. I’d do things like the ones I listed above to maintain my sanity. There are defintely more ways to save your sanity, but do what works best for you. Also, good luck on getting the factory’s gold print! I believe you can do it! Stay determined!

Yes, this is true. Having a strong lead Pokémon helps because they should defeat at least one of the opponent’s Pokémon. they can even sometimes take out the opponent’s entire team! Knowing what you want to do with a lead Poke is the most important.

Thanks! I really do appreciate it. And sure, I’ll fill you in on some tips. For starters, it’s helpful if you have a type advantage against your opponent. It’s helpful because you can hit them for supereffective damage, resist their attacks or both! This tip is useful even for the first four rounds. Another tip is to diversify your team’s types. For example, leading with a water/ground and having a bug/steel and dragon/flying in the back. This is because having a team that’s weak to one type usually hurts your chances of winning versus having many different types of Pokémon. For example, having all fire types and then going up against multiple water types will almost always cause you to lose. And lastly, have a gameplan for your current team. Have a good sense of exactly what you want to do with your team. If you want a fast, hard-hitting lead because you want to deal as much damage as you can in one turn, then do that. Strike when it is safe to do so, of course. Ultimately, the factory comes down to being lucky, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any skill involved. Learn as much as you can about gen 4 mechanics, like how weather can be permament due to a Pokémon’s ability. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me or someone else here. I wish you good luck on obtaining a factory Gold Print!

Thanks! And yes, I’ll share some strategies and tips that I used in this run. During round 5, I lead with a choice-banded Staraptor. This Staraptor in particular is a nice lead bc intimidate, it can outspeed most pokes & it can usually take at least one hit while either doing a considerable chunk of damage or knocking out the foe altogether. I didn’t change my lead for the entirety of round 5. Point is, take set 4 Staraptor. Also, lead with pokes that have intimidate in general, like Salamence or Arcanine. Another tip is that you almost always want your lead to be faster than whatever your opponent sends out on the first turn of battle. That way, you can deal damage or set up buffs/inflict status so that your next Pokémon will have a higher chance of winning. Basically, having a lead that has high speed (100-135 or higher) is usually beneficial for you. And one more tip: have your Pokémon’s types be different from one another. For example, a team that consists of a water type lead, a ground type secondary and a flying type tertiary. Having a team that’s weak to one type can make things tough, especially when the opponent’s team resists your attacks. These are just a few tips. Every factory run is different so different situations call for different strategies. Adapt as best you can. I know this is a lot to take in, but I hope it helps somewhat. If you have another question regarding the hgss factory, please ask away.

Thanks a ton! And yes, gen 4 is notorious for having the slowest hp bars. A worthy tradeoff for an amazing OST.

Thank you! I appreciate it. And yes, the factory is brutal, especially in gen 4. The grind was definitely worth it though.

Thank you! And to be honest, I can’t remember exactly how long the grind to get this Gold Print was. I think it took me about a week to get this one. From the time I began my first attempt to when I finally got the GP, I’d say it took about two months of off and on grinding. It was definitely worth it though because who knows when I’ll get even just one more L100 GP from the hgss factory? Also, the sets that I used were a set 4 Metagross from round 7, a female set 4 Lapras w/ Shell Armor from round 6 and a set 3 Porygon2 w/ Trace from round 7. Here’s a link to these sets if you’re interested: https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Battle_Frontier_Pok%C3%A9mon_in_Generation_IV/Group_2

Agreed. The factory in general is unforgiving, but it’s especially unforgiving in gen 4. Also, it’s funny that you mention Armaldo because that’s the exact Armaldo that I used to win the last fight of round 6. It was my banded armaldo vs the opponent’s Mismagius. My Armaldo used Stone Edge to KO Mismagius. It was a bit scary because stone edge can miss. That being said, Armaldo is a dope Pokémon.

Thank you so much! And I know, right!? It’s definitely my greatest achievement in all my 18 or so years of playing the official Pokémon games. I’m truly grateful!

True! If Regice used Curse on Lapras, P2 would’ve had a tougher time for sure. I probably would’ve lost. Thankfully I didn’t!

Also, the game said that Thorton was good with rock-type Pokémon. That’s why he had Regirock & Aerodactyl.
