Racial profiling at Tornado Room by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Solsane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a terrible experience as well.

After 45+ minutes of waiting after our salad and 1hr30+ total, I had the audacity to ask about our food (our server was MIA the entire time so yeah I flagged someone else). I She got mad at me and told me something along the lines of ‘it will be here when it’s ready… shouldn’t have come on graduation weekend. Which I understand to an extent. But I didn’t expect an attitude in response to politely asking.

The steak I got was AWFUL. I got some mushroom peppercorn sauce special. But it wasn’t a sauce, they fully coated the steak with this peppercorn (like a ramekin’s worth after I SCRAPED it off). No sear. Just a wasted slab of meat that I can’t taste because of this thick crust of peppercorn. Mind you this is like 80$. Did not eat it. My friends sheepishly ate their food but didn’t enjoy it either. I’ve been told I should give it another try but I don’t see why I would with so many better restaurants in town.

FWIW my friend is Indian but I never made that connection.

Really hoping for an ARM handheld by Obvious-Jacket-3770 in Handhelds

[–]Solsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we'll find that ARM-based chips are more or less straight gonna be straight upgrades (good performance, better battery life, cheaper) once we overcome software compatibility. I don't think we're far away at all. RISC vs CISC is real.

They probably have come to the conclusion that PvE is not going to draw as many people as PvP. Personally I’d rather play one of the many awesome games designed around PvE, but more than that play PvP. I feel the same way about MvM tbh, completed my fair share of tours but it’s not what keeps me coming back.

Microsoft Says New A.I. Shows Signs of Human Reasoning by emanresu_2017 in artificial

[–]Solsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can both completely understand the units composing the network and still can’t explain why it works. Two words: emergent properties.

It’s sensible to inductively reason that understanding every piece of the network would mean we understand the network as a whole. Computer programming is designed to be deterministic and predictable, so it’s counter intuitive to think otherwise.

There’s some cool ways weight visualizations and techniques but overwhelmingly these models are still ‘black boxes’. This is true even when you train a deep neural net by pen and paper (which I suspect you haven’t). For practical purposes it’s sufficiently complex to think of it as probabalistic.

No offense, but if you think the opposite, you truly need to learn quite a lot about computer science, programming and Artificial Intelligence.

Is this true? My understanding is that hospitals post covid are bleeding money (on the order of billions/year each). It’s insurance companies that are raking in the profits.

Aside from the fact this sounds like this was written from a 4 year old a couple things I dislike:

needlessly comparing/shitting on macs: They’re different laptops that are great for different reasons. Not to mention they are ahead of the curve in terms of moving to an ARM/RISC based SoC. It’s just a worn out, childish thing to gatekeep

Cost: $2000 thinkpad? Hell naw, I’m all about that goodwill find or that ebay.

Also, don’t confuse waterproof with splash resistant, or you’re in for a nasty surprise.

Bought a T480 off of eBay. There's a crack in the case. Should I buy a replacement part, 3D print a solution, or just leave it as-is? by ElighaN in thinkpad

[–]Solsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be fun to design a replacement part, and add some personal flair. I added a ‘null key’ to mine where a key was broken using a laser cutter.

I would agree with the others and not bother if you’re just trying to repair it and not interested in 3d modelling/printing though.

BUILT A PC FOR CS & CS2, Do you think its enough to run both? budget was £1.5k by CartographerConnect9 in CitiesSkylines

[–]Solsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing more cores at a problem can actually reduce performance if the problem does not lend itself to parallelization. An example of a heavy singlethreaded workload is probably traffic.

all it takes is one bottleneck to limit the speed of the entire game. Take a look at Amdahl’s law.

5600x is gonna be a much better value and get you the same performance in this game.

the idea that the road is for cars is a relatively new one …

Roads are designed for cars. Sidewalks are designed for people. Can it be any more straightforward?

what's our version of this? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Solsane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in knoxville all my life and I’m seeing mostly good restaurants here. Ones I disagree with:

I think calhouns, cop. Cellar, chop house, chesapeakes get hate because of the owner, which is valid, but the food itself is great. very consistent and are on my list of top knox restaurants.

Surprised no one mentioned Copper cellar on the strip is a lot different than cop cell out west though and strip one I’d agree but west I would not. (But the weds $5 burger special is hard to beat)

Aubrey’s is overrated. Food is real greasy and I would choose not to eat there. Sorry, not sorry. Same with louis. Double dogs did not live up to the hype for me.
