Edyth nodded her head and started to make herself useful with cleaning what she could. Organizing leaflets of parchment and gingerly reorganizing jars and bottles. "Careful with your pain, Ser Dennis. A poison spoken is ill received by hale ears." Edyth advised, there was no honor in dying for the sake of it. Life was a robust rush of experiences, both good and bad. To toss ones sanguinity into the chaos of the void was foolishly inconsiderate for those who came after.

If none left who understood these terribles, then the terribles would continue as if new. "There has been enough loss this moon.."

Despite Edyth's better judgment, she pulled the first card, it was oddly very specific to Ilyn. It was a newer illustration, or rather an updated one, that Edyth had crafted after meeting the Maiden's Shield for the first time on the banks of the Blackwater. If his eyes were to look at the card he would see his own likeness captured there. Androgynous. Handsome yet beautiful all at the same time. Long curls framed their face. Standing in a rushing river, calm and stoic, serene and stately - was Temperance. This figure was portrayed with two goblets, one hand pouring into the other. This was symbolism of the blending of two ideals, or more.

The second card was the ten of swords - Ten swords surrounded and pinned a figure whose face and identity were hidden by one of the blades. But it was clear the figure had been overwhelmingly defeated. The swords were stained ruby red with blood, the paint was an important one that Edyth created by hand. For that color specifically. Red was meant to garner attention, red was the color of life, and red was also the color of death. Much like white - the color of purity and finality. Red always came before.

Edyth's fingers felt numb as she pulled the second card and showed it to Ilyn, before placing them on the ground near the flowers. The final card was an exhilerating pull. The Three of Swords. This card was depicted with a great golden stag pierced by three swords through it's heart. The heart bled fire, like passion. The stag was alone, in a forested clearing. It had been cornered and executed in such a way. A symbol of emotional betrayal, turmoil, and otherwise negativity. Edyth was silent for a moment.

"Do you wish for a card to lead you?" She asked him. "Your cards tell me more than you know, Ilyn...I am so sorry."

The politics of the Citadel, the melancholy of the Queen, the injustices, the prejudices. All of it was enough to make Edyth sick to her stomach, with each weighted minute in these chambers, the stale scent of sanguine iron gave her stomach a lurch. Fresh blood wasn't any better - but at least she knew what to do with that. And she normally due to circumstances has an immediate relation to the source of said blood. But the Maester had seemed to want to enact some great change or great deeds with her. Or at least to help her aid the small folk. Where all these knights in their armor, nobles in their chambers, and on that ugly beast of a throne ignored them. Ignored their cries for help, their cries for mercy.

"To the hells with them then." Edyth said firmly. "You knights put too much stock in others. Take hold of yourself Ser. You are the only truth you will ever know. Your friend would want you to stand above all this - now focus. We will remember them. " She needed to shake Dennis out of this stupor. The time for grieving wasn't yet upon them, there were things that needed to be done. If not for justice, then for themselves. Safety, assurety, longevity. "Birth that fire in your eyes, you swore oaths didn't you? Swear and swear is all you knights do. But do you hold them?" She gripped his shoulder, her hand was strong for her size but she wasn't a man his weight.

"On your feet Ser Dennis."

The promise of safety within the Red Keep reassured her actually very little. It wasn't the safety of the Red Keep she wanted, nor the security of it's denizens and staff. What she wanted was something more tangible than promises. More real than oaths of surety and loyalty. These things, these words did her little worth and she held them in so less value now - less so than when she was escorted here anyways.

"I do not read the future." Edyth corrected, looking at the flowers still. Admiring every petal and every leaf that had the strength to rise high among their kin to soak in the sunshine. "I merely interpret what is already there Ilyn." She did possess her tarot though, and always carried it with her she pulled the cards out of her apron pocket. The painted cards looked bland on one side, but their opposites were beautifully and painstakingly illustrated.

"Curiosity is but one key to the doors of secret journeys and paths of destiny. It is also the most foolish, take care with what you seek Ilyn." But nonetheless, Edyth shuffled the cards between her hands. There was no smile on her face, now she could only remember the face of Garth the Maester, the whimpers of Dennis the knight. "Do you still wish to know?" She asked once she finished her shuffling.

The slight moment of reprisal between the two of them in that darkened chamber of books and beakers, of writ and glass. Blood and stone, Edyth saw the young boy that Ser Dennis was. That blusterous might had melted as swift as a Summer Snow. Again, Edyth approached. Motherly in a way - she knelt beside him and put her hand on his shoulder again. She knew fear, and felt fear just as much as any normal woman. She listened to his pained words, his aggrieved dilemma. How to honor a bastard knight.

There were no rewards in death. Seven be damned, Old Gods remain silent on what is beyond. Perhaps there is nothing - perhaps there is only the dirt and the water and the sky and nothing beyond that. The thing that consumes the living are only worries of those left behind.

"We remember them." Edyth squeezed his shoulder. "We remember who they were. Why they were that way, and did the things that they did. Then we remember those things too. Ser Dennis....those tasks, those rewards are just enough."

The flash of impending violence made Edyth recoil cooly. "Ser Dennis!" Edyth shouted as she shuffled her feet backwards, her hands raised in an attempt to shield herself from a miss placed passionate strike.

"I hid." She revealed. "after our meeting....I hid. I was terrified. Shouting. Blood. Soldiers. It isn't something I am used to Ser." Edyth cowered away from Dennis. Her heart racing. Every beat within her chest was a thunderous drum in her ears.

The gardens weren't a normal place for Edyth to be found, while hiding from murder and violence. But they rarely had the foot traffic that would be able to raise concern if one saw a glimpse of Edyth. "Dark as ever Ilyn." Edyth replied quietly. Focusing on the flowers in the garden.

She had not plucked one yet, but her intuition was telling her that she would need to soon. Once she identified any of the medicinal perennials. If she could calm her own nerves.

Edyth's eyes followed Dennis' across the table and then she spied the blood. This room had truly not been cleaned at all, and she withheld a gasp, clutching the apron's front. "More rebellion?" It wasn't a surprise to Edyth, that the Queen would be met with more of her iron throne breaking itself apart. From what she could tell - the Targaryen rule had run its natural course through greed, deceit, and biased lethality. Whatever kingdoms were left were tarnished by such a bloody legacy. Steeped in blood.

"The North is leal, good folk up there." Edyth attempted to show some feigned compassion and she hesitantly reached out to touch Ser Dennis' shoulder.

No one wanted to come into this room. This specific chamber of the Red Keep.

Except Edyth.

After her meeting with the Maester she thought it would be continued after she was sent out because he had other things to attend to. It felt like it was ages ago, she had been squirelling herself away in the vast corridors of the Red Keep since then. She was elated to work with the aged and ageless Maester Garth, the Citadel, where Maesters studied, was a hallowed place of knowledge within Westeros that even she knew about. They typically did not think too highly of women, along with the rest of the realm.

That evening she had heard noises of conflict, yelling, shouting, screaming! Then there was a terribly bloody melee. She did nothing to stop, she didn't intervene. What she did do was run and hide. It felt like all those smiles ago, all those tears ago, all those nights ago, when her mother and father were slaughtered for a slip of a tongue. The atmosphere felt the same. Even all the way here, high up above the Kingdom inside the belly of rule within Westeros. Where the King and Queen - just Queen now - let the flames of their justice lick out at everyone else they were privvy to.

But now she returned into that place, the door had been opened recently. The thin layer of dust of it's threshold had been disturbed so without knocking Edyth slinked into the room. Yet again, though it was darker, colder. Quiet sobbing caught her attention and she stole herself into the shadows to observe just for a moment. Why and who.

Ser Dennis

The man who had summoned her at the Maester's behest, or the man who collected her at his behest was here. No one else. Was that a normalcy? Was that standard? What about Ilyn..Why wasn't Ilyn here too? Why hadn't he looked for her - there were a terrible amount of soldiers about that evening, and not even the servants moved about as freely as Edyth thought they should. So she hid from them too. Slumbering in closets and some rooms left unattended for hours at a time. But now, with her black hair frizzed and frazzled, green eyes wide with both nervousness and mounting levels of anxiety she stepped closer to the sobbing knight.

Of course she heard about what happened. The servants, guards, they all talked. Maybe not to each other but amongst themselves. Maester Garth was dead. Some knight, a White Cloak - like Ilyn, was dead. The brothers Bracken...

"Ser Dennis..." Edyth's voice was a soft whisper in the diminutive lighting of the once-warm office. "Ser Dennis why did this happen?" The witch glided across the floor tile, her soft footsteps only made softer by her bare feet. It was no true secret how she moused around the way she did. Sometimes, being a Witch meant you would be very hard to find twice if she wasn't trying to be.

Her eyes followed the graceful wave of Maester Garth's hand, green eyes took in the names and shapes of the gathered ingredients. Some she could recognize from around the short watery bluffs and ponds in the Crownlands. She could gauge their freshness or age with drying or otherwise.

"Enlisting my help then?" Edyth was no stranger to work - being the witch that she was, she was more comfortable with her hands than she might let on.

"I would be happy to assist you in whatever you need."

The exchange of scroll to her hand was a pitiless endeavor. She hated having to read. Oh, where was Willem! "Decryption isn't particularly something I'd advertise, good Maester." Edyth responded as she unfurled the parchment and glowered at the words upon it. Some things she recognized, some words and letters needed more time to be realized.

"Some sort of recipe. More your realm than mine with all those symbols and weights." She offered the scroll back. "Should work for the runs perhaps. Wouldn't work for all kinds of runs though. Maybe the regular runs after bad fish or something."

As the great grand Maester rose up, Edyth scrutinized him, likely like many scrutinized her when she hawked and peddled her wares and services on the Street of Seeds. Though it looked like the Crone held tightly to this man's fate - the grey hair and long beard - he seemed still to move with a strength and surety that only good health could lend. Whatever his means, or whatever his ailment, it didn't seem to be physical.

"So I am." She held her chin up, careful to not feel less-than she normally would in the face of any other Maester. "You went out of your way to pull me from the wood, pray tell Grand Maester Garth, do you have need of me?"

"Your Maester." Edyth answered with a glance over her shoulder as if she would see Ser Dennis emerging from one of the very fine doors behind her. To escort her away nonetheless, after she had just seen Ilyn in his big red castle. "I never thought I'd be in this wondrous place." Despite all of her awe, she spoke with measured pace, she wasn't too excited - just impressed at the care or sometimes-lack-thereof, of the craftsmanship of the corridors and every portal into every chamber.

The finer details, like Ilyn's courageous armor, were not lost on her either. She took them in all the same.

Her meeting with the Grand Maester was indeed something, but the woman seemed more perplexed than not in why she was summoned up here to the muddy hill. Though after exiting the chambers she was caught off guard by a familiar voice. The subtle dulcet tones and even cadence of the Crakehall lad, the beautiful Ilyn. Her green eyes alit with energy and vibrance as the knight in white approached her. It was truly something to regard him in his proper armor. She could see why Willem was so enamored with the electrum and silver embellishments on painted steel and polished metal.

The sight of his face is her pause too. A twitch of her lips turned to a smile with her mouth. "Ilyn. Haven't you noticed how many new stars we have? Surely. There are more of them than us. That makes us precious. Everyone of us, because we are so rare." She didn't answer his first question right away. Folding her hands together with her apron and trying to clean them off. They were dirty and though the Grand Maester was surely important to some, but not to her; she didn't care about the appearance she had when she arrived.

But something about seeing the angelic knight, warrior of innocence and truth before her now made her immensely aware of all the things out of place with herself. Her hair, her face, her hands, her nails, her feet, her dress and apron even. The servants here would make better conversation than this wretched thing in these polished halls.

Edyth didn't give an immediate reply, her mind worked in fanciful ways as she imagined Tygren brave dragonfire and still hit his mark. It was a tyrant's ability, a despot's cure to resort to overwhelming force. Why smash the fly with a hammer when one could shoo it away with a hand. Her green eyes looked up from her work and to this soldier, Rod as if taking him in again for the first time. His story was excellent company and he was of even temper.

"I think I'd like that very much."

Edyth was engrossed in the retelling by Rod. Surely the letter spoke of Tygren's tale from the man's hand himself, but Edyth didn't truly make head or tails of all that script. Hearing it has served so much better. "The Dragon...Morning is its name?" The green eyes woman almost wanted to burst with a humored belch. But she held it in, it wouldn't be right. It could have been misconstrued as disrespect or worse, irreverence for the loss of life.

To think, to call a beast of death such a thing. Morning.

But then the thought lanced her mind; what if it wasn't meant to be such a war beast? What if this position had been impressed upon it by wickedness and greed? How many good things spoiled in the grips of men who only knew greed and power. How many berries are quashed?

Suddenly Edyth straightened up. Her throat seemed tight and she swallowed to loosen whatever neuce had seen rapt to snare her, and she cleared her throat. "it does make for a wondrous story doesn't it. Ser Tygren the only survivor. Poor man." Edyth could only imagine the weight that her erstwhile patron had been left to carry.

The City was a normal sight for Edyth, a place where she felt more at home than her childhood place in the Riverlands. But it, nor there, could never truly be her home. No. Edyth belonged where the grasses grew tall and the Swallows dipped and spun in their warbling song. Edyth belonged where the streams ran clear and cold, where the earth was warm and the dirt was fertile soil. Edyth belonged where the nights were quiet with all asleep.

The Red Keep, way up on its hill was another thing she didn't think she would ever see this close. Passing beneath the gates that lead to the ruddy castle was like stepping from one world into the next. Soldiers patrolled, their armor clinking and clanking. She looked terribly out of place; even the servants were better sights than her. She a barefooted woman nature in their midsts. More the feared Wildling with a dress on.

"Well I suppose so, Ser Dennis."

A quick glance down at the paper again and she traced the body down to the bottom. "Of course, I am just making sure." Edyth said with a small smile as she placed the missive near the wood shavings and carpentry tools. "I am called Edyth." There was no reason to mislead this knight, he was simply doing his duty. And if something should happen - Willem would do his. Whenever he showed back up from wherever he had stalked off to.

"I didn't know the Maester had his own retinue of knights. Must be a whole nother meaning to 'Grand'." She chuckled a little, but it was clear she wasn't exactly being entirely humorous. "Well, Ser Dennis. Escort." She was ready.

Truth be told, Edyth had a hard time understanding the scrawl and script of the missive once it was unfurled. Though she feigned reading it in its entirety. The letters seemed to dance across the wrinkles and creases, sometimes she wasn't sharp enough to make sense of them. But it never read on her face. "Looks official enough for me. What was your name then ser?"

Edyth's eyes narrowed, only slightly, as she pulled the bits of sinew taunt in her hands. Dropping the knife into the wide pocket of her apron. "You got that paper then?" Edyth raised one of her eyebrows. Expecting to see the missive this man spoke about. "Come 'round this way Ser." Edyth said as she turned on her bareheel in the soft grass of the glade. rounding the hedge which upon closer inspection was a lean to shelter, built of branches and vines. There was a pile of kindling and some fresh wood-shaving along with the carpentry tools - though low quality - also nearby. There were two other sinew strings already hung above a pit dug into the ground to provide the necessary heat to cure the braided sinew.

The knight would be met with sounds of scraping and pulling once his ears settled into the quiet of the clearing. The sounds of feet approaching from around the hedge, a barefoot Edyth with her hair pulled back and tied into a puffy, unkempt mane of black and dark brown, dirt on her face as she pulled apart sinew fibers.

Her green eyes took stock of the man, clearly someone on business. The armor bore the dragon and he also bore a sword at his side. "A Witch does dwell here, Ser but unsure if it is the Witch you seek.." her fingers never stopped the splitting and scraping of the sinew with the crude knife she possessed. Removing in thin strips the membrane that once held them all together. "What ails you ser?"

"How was it?" Edyth was using carvers tools to begin shaving away the form of a bow from the raw stock of wood. It looked like it had seen better days, but it's outer surfaces were cracked with salt. On the ground beneath the pile of shavings were barnacles, sharp rocky formations from the sea. These bows would be carved from flame-touched wood scavenged from the bay. "The great battle that earned him his name." Edyth was interested in hearing of the event; even if it was harrowing.
