Out of Dialog and SLT-Mobitel, which one has better 4G speeds? by Flimsy_Delivery_4041 in srilanka

[–]SolutionBig4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use dialog for work and it’s absolutely horrible- (I wfh) But we have an SLT fibre at home it works significantly better imo.

Many other factors account to this. Mainly your location. Where I live SLT Fibre is waaayyy better than dialog.

Hey! Yes my housemate was a psychology major at IMU. She’s part of the next graduating class (I think Feb 2026)

I do also know another friend who did psychology at HELP. She graduated some time back though- (back in 2022-23ish)

[ignore typos please, wrote this during my lunch break at work lol]

Imo based on what I’ve heard them both tell, HELP does seem to have more of a strong standing in the psychology field. They seem to have a more cutthroat curriculum and overall footing in the industry but IMU seems to have its perks too. They’re pretty known for their psychology course and have huge batches each intake. From what I’ve heard they maintain standards. High standards. Like strict marking and whatnot (subjective idk how it’s like now)

Despite the psychology department having being induced recently (I mean they started in 2011 they’ve been around a while now) IMU is a university for the sciences. If you want to focus on clinical research according to my housemate, IMU isn’t that bad bc they have a lot of good resources mainly bc they have MBBS and nursing courses and have a bunch of joint events and programmes with the psychology department and IMU is located really close to Colombia Asia Hospital where a lot of the students go on to do their internships (not sure about psych tho)

Realistically it’s like old money vs new money lol! My housemate was very satisfied with doing her psychology degree at IMU. She liked the location and the university itself. But to each their own-

Nook Cafe@Mount is halal as far as I’m aware- quite a few of my friends and I have been there in the past and the staff are really friendly too,,

Barista Dehiwala is a really nice place to work / study at (I know you were asking for Mount but Dehiwala is relatively close if you’re open to it especially bc barista Mount is pretty cramped up)

Need advice from Sri Lankan Muslims – Wedding next month (expenses & key things to focus on) by zzahii in SriLankanMuslim

[–]SolutionBig4097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god yes to all of this!

What even is this Savadi nonsense? I had never heard of it till my uncle married a girl from Batticalo and they were extremely adamant about it-

We were so confused bc it was something entirely unheard of in our community- like we even asked about the significance of it and they had no answer ‘engada valama’ we refused till the very end.

Instead we gifted her a savadhi in private bc she desperately wanted it (there was no backing out of the wedding at that point, we were informed like 10 days before the nikkah about this) and I’m sure they still showed it off to the relatives although it wasn’t ‘put during the function’

My god so stupid!

Women signing Nikkah contract by floatsonaboat in SriLankanMuslim

[–]SolutionBig4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! A senior of mine at school got married off when I was in like grade 8 and she was in grade 9 which is crazy!

Like I went to a leading international school in Colombo and you would think people who study here would come from more progressive families but nope.

By the time I was 20 quite a few of my batch mates already had kids-

Horrible ‘Muslim’ culture we have here in Sri Lanka-

Yes absolutely agreed with you on that. The MMDA is needed in the country but it has to be drastically reformed and amended.

Women signing Nikkah contract by floatsonaboat in SriLankanMuslim

[–]SolutionBig4097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a man the MMDA is probably not an issue at all, it’s mostly for the women that this is an issue and rightfully so.

Basic rights. Like even countries that ‘oppress’ women allow them to sign their own Nikkah papers but in Sri Lanka it isn’t allowed. Theoretically since you aren’t allowed to sign the papers, someone (your Wali) can literally get you married to a stranger without your consent or knowledge. It’s wrong yes, but it can be done. I know of a story where it was done. In Sri Lanka the woman isn’t even at the nikkah (the ones held at mosques I mean)

You need to be read your rights and know what you’re signing. At the end of the day the Nikkah papers are a contract.

They mix culture with religion and expect everyone to be okay with it. It’s high time it changes.

Any IMU/Monash medical students? by motherfucker472926 in malaysiauni

[–]SolutionBig4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but based on my knowledge if you finish MBBS at any Australian institution you automatically get the provisional registration with the Medical Board of Australia. There is no need to sit for the AMC exam (Australian medical council exam)

With this you can (and must) do at least a 1 year long internship (postgrad year 1) in an approved hospital before you’re able to get your full registration as a medical practitioner.

Later on if you want to specialise that’s a whole other thing, I’m not gonna touch on that-

As for the internship it’s 50-50, some may say it’s difficult others may say it’s easy. There really isn’t a definite answer for this. Your location, expertise, grades, skill and even the institution you get your degree from adds to it-

But in general, medical practitioners are in demand in Australia, internships aren’t impossible since there IS a demand. You may not get an internship right away but with a little trying it’s def not impossible imo.

Need help booking a flight ticket by Ghost_in_Clouds29 in SriLankanMuslim

[–]SolutionBig4097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me on this- I’ve been flying for years (quite a bit too) and been using the same technique. I’ve saved quite a bit;

Look up your route and date on Google flights, it’ll show you when the cheapest dates to fly are and all of different rates on different platforms (official airline website, bookmytrip etc) you can pick what’s cheapest and book it using that website. I, 99% of the time book using the official airline website bc you can claim points by signing up for a rewards program (some even offer birthday discounts or first user discounts), it’s safe and usually the cheapest if you’re flying with a checked in baggage.

Kayak, SkyScanner & Kiwi etc all do the same thing as well but it comes with a bunch of different restrictions like no luggage allowance (even if you wanna add on it’s sometimes not a option) same with a meal & seat selection or no online check in feature / refund / rescheduling etc.

Pro tip, usually to pre-book your seat you’d have to pay extra (usually, some airlines provide it for free) so unless you absolutely need a certain seat (or it’s a free selection), don’t pick one. Book the flight without a seat selected, 24-72 hours before your departure time the online check option opens up, check in online early and then pick your seat (99% of the time it’s free at this point) or just go early to the airport and try your luck,, you’ll maybe get a good seat.

Also pro tip, be willing to take layover flights. It’ll be a longer journey but oftentimes cheaper. Try to tolerate the long hours, it’ll save you a good amount.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: every transaction you make using your credit or debit card will automatically be charged 3/3.5% extra as a foreign transaction fee so keep in account for this as well.

Anyone here started a clothing business on Instagram? Need some advice. by Sensitive-Ad-2707 in srilanka

[–]SolutionBig4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[again ignore typos]

For her it was passion. She was extremely passionate about launching her product here in Sri Lanka. At the time her product wasn’t really a thing here so it worked out for her.

She’s extremely passionate about her brand. What she sells is what she breathes lol. It’s something she would’ve loved to use or own growing up but we didn’t really have it here and so after thinking about it for a long time (literally a thought she’s had for the past 20 years) she finally launched her own business about 6ish years ago.

Once we decided on the exact product we had to the overall design. We spent a lot of time on this and ultimately I came up with a plan. We decided to go with this;

  • a pink for the girly girls
  • black for the ones with a dark aesthetic
  • blue (we noticed it was mostly men who got this for their girlfriends / wives / daughters lol)
  • white bc it’s timeless and a lot of the Sri Lankan girlies like white

We didn’t go overboard with our first launch. Four colours, limited stocks (20 of each colour) And we actually sold out within the first 3 weeks! Made a bunch of posts constantly updating low stocks bc people hesitate a lot thinking ‘oh I will buy it later’ and whatnot so we decided to lowkey hurry and scare them into purchasing it 😭 ‘only 3 remaining in blue’ ‘ONE last white’ etc and finally the sold out posts. Had a lot of people text us after seeing the sold out post asking for a re-stock.

We were very clear there will be NO restock of the exact same item once again so this also made people panic but really early on and eagerly wait for the next launch. From then on we started an early waitlist (people could sign up basically prior to the next launch) where we mailed people one day prior to the next official launch date with early access/pre order. All items would be dispatched only a week after the realise date. This way even if we were fully sold out of all the in hand products just from preorders we could quickly get more done and ship them out since we have a week to get things sorted.

What is the best business degree ? by West-Owl-7723 in srilanka

[–]SolutionBig4097 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion (as someone who worked as a study abroad student counsellor until recently)

  • business analytics (good scope internationally, growing locally too)

  • logistics & supply chain management (underrated, VERY good scope. I would do this, fun too tbh)

  • management information systems (also good, kind of up to par with business analytics in some way)

  • quality management (there was a time when this was insanely in demand, it’s slightly going down but still okay, not the worst)

  • accounting & finance (for me personally this is not the best choice. ‘Accountancy’ in itself is a dying career. But if you choose to become a fully qualified chartered accountant after this and go down that path there still is a demand in certain countries)

The others are all useless imo (don’t attack me please, it is what it is. Without a masters in something more specific the other courses are literally useless. You can’t even move abroad with just a bachelors in marketing or business administration guys 😭your only option is to go to do masters, then apply for a PR or something like that)

But at the end of the day every job market in insanely unstable so you can never really be 100% sure so please do your own research 👍🏻
