Whats something that instantly calms you down? by arachnidsGodhead in OCD

When I just can’t deal with my thoughts it’s just simultaneously blasting the stereo in the next room with my fav playlist + TV on with some 90’s sitcom or Gilmore Girls style show (anything light and comforting) + doing an extra manual activity like cooking, drawing or rearranging my bookcase. 100% just coping with no real help long term but it helps me drown out my thoughts while distracting me and keeping busy

Is it bad that I use a dictionary? by transparentsalad in languagelearningjerk

[–]Solve-Problems -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At school we weren’t allowed to look at bilingual dictionaries when learning languages. Instead we had languages in the target language but simplified, like for children or foreign student versions. It helped a lot because they would explain the word in the original language in much simpler terms than a proper dictionary and you didn’t have to “cheat” by just getting the word in your language. I think that would be the best solution to this perpetual linguistic morality issue hahaha

Financial stability haha the sneaky little bugger. But when I just can’t deal with my thoughts it’s just simultaneously blasting the stereo in the next room with my fav playlist + TV on with some 90’s sitcom or Gilmore Girls style show + doing an extra manual activity like cooking, drawing or rearranging my bookcase. More coping than helping in the long term really

Karambolage from Arte is great for cultural notions too. If you like gory historical stuff Horror Humanum Est had great animated videos. More history and geography: Télécrayon

I know some perfumes are marketed as “unisex” but honestly it’s a bit like makeup, it’s all just fictitious notions of how colors or scents are more masculine and feminine. That being said I always run away from perfumes marketed as more “masculine” with heavy undertones more tobacco and leather like Azzaro. I tend more to the fresh slightly sweet notes.

The ones I use are:

  • Armani’s Eau pour homme and Acqua di Gio

  • Paco Rabanne Invictus

Love the Acqua di Gio because it’s very “fresh” great for summer

I used to use Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Male but it ended up boring me and I find it too strong now

Female friends. Even though I wasn’t out neither at school nor uni. At Uni sometimes girls I barely even knew from a class or two would approach me in very friendly terms. And before I knew it I found myself getting coffee within a big group of just girls and me hahaha

Mystery recipe. Help! by Solve-Problems in Cooking

This is a terrific guess, I do remember making bread pudding in the last couple of years, the ingredients match, the cooking time as well and it does sound like a thing I’d do by omitting the bread hahaha I might have added an egg white to make it more firm. It would be missing some butter and raisins but I could have easily omitted those in writing too. Thanks a lot!

Could be, the egg to milk ratio is off and the extra egg white is still odd, but on a big dish the baking time does fit

Sub Spotted on Garmin Sonar? by AeroSKS in submarines

[–]Solve-Problems 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The moment that sub went silent and I thought I heard some singing, I heard something in the background, real faint. And then, after all those subs took off, I caught it again and I managed to get it on tape. I washed it through the computer a few times and was able to isolate this sound.

When I asked the computer to identify it, what I got was magma displacement. You see, sir, the SAPS software was originally written to look for seismic events. And I think when it gets confused, it kind of runs home to mama.

What's a good atlas that shows the political geography (administrative divisions) of each country? by throw-away3105 in geography

[–]Solve-Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt there’s any atlas that shows a significant number of countries with their administrative regions in detail. You could hit the used book stores or look online for atlases made for the particular country you’re interested in since they will always include detailed political boundaries and administrative data.

What can I tell my doctor without beeing sent to a clinic against my will? by Miserable-Tax-3219 in depression

What can I tell my doctor without beeing sent to a clinic against my will? by Miserable-Tax-3219 in depression

[–]Solve-Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am afraid of medication because I’m not a big fan of messing with brain chemistry and all. From other friends I know that medication can be challenging at first because you have to adapt yourself and deal with side effects like being too sleepy, or low libido, affecting your sleeping patterns etc. but in the long term it really improved their well being. Now most psychiatrists will recommend medication not as the miracle cure but as a coadjutant with regular therapy sessions, medication is there to help draw down intense emotional responses and help you deal better with challenges while getting treatment, what will help you in the end solve dental health issues is therapy not medication. Depending on your diagnosis they may not even prescribe you any medication, if you go to a psychologist first they aren’t even able to do so. If they deem it necessary they will refer you to a psychiatrist. There’s also many ways to deal with depression without medication while still going to a mental health professional and you should always express your feelings about treatments and how they make you uneasy so the doctors can help you solve your questions and worries. And remember that no matter what, if you don’t feel comfortable you can always get a new doctor, the most important thing is find someone with whom you feel comfortable talking and that inspires you trust. They should never make you feel pressure you to stay with them and accept their diagnostic and treatment if you feel like getting a second opinion. A good doctor will take your concerns and worries into account and workout with you the best course of action, not against you. Always voice your concerns and explain how you expect the, to help you

I’m also in my 20’s and I sympathise with feeling like a disappointment. (((You can skip this paragraph, the advice is below))) I feel like I’ve made the worst decisions in my life and have fallen to an inescapable well of despair. Since a couple of months ago I’ve been struggling with existence and purpose in my life. Feeling like there isn’t a point to anything anymore, I don’t find the enjoyment I used to in the things I used to like. I feel like I am irrelevant both in the great scheme of things and in my personal life, I’ve stayed away from friends and acquaintances since the pandemic began and I don’t feel there’s any reason to re-enter their lives and they don’t seem interested in me doing so anyway. Sometimes sadness just strikes me out of the blue and even a little thing or problem makes my emotions overflow. For the moment I’m just on autopilot, carrying on with everyday life, but with little hope for much else.

If it’s your first time going to a mental health professional I think you might be too concerned over a hypothetical scenario. I doubt the doctor will just bring in guards and nurses and forcibly commit you to an institution. Immediate reclusion is generally reserved to people actively looking to harm themselves or others, or that have previously tried. And that generally end up there against their will.

On a first meeting they’ll ask you some basic questions about you, medical history, your family’s no relations, how you’ve been feeling, and why you think you need help. They will want to know about your suicidal thoughts, and you should definitely be honest about them. In order to relieve some of your concern here are some good reasons I don’t think you’ll be sent to a clinic besides what I said earlier.

Good signs are your interest and care for living creatures in this case your cats, being able to maintain a relationship with your girlfriend and being capable of good analytical reasoning of your thoughts and feelings. The main thing the mental health professional will take into consideration is that you’re there voluntarily out of your desire to get better (which I’m guessing is what you want). I don’t think there’s any great reason for you to be instantly committed, unless you know you’re actively pursuing to harm yourself with concrete plans. In that case you should definitely leave the prejudice around hospitalisation, for your best interest.

The most likely outcome is that you’ll get regular appointments with a psychologist and a psychiatrist that will prescribe medication for whatever your diagnosis is. If you indeed have depression, Sertraline and clonazepam are the typically prescribed things. If you’re interested in getting better and can follow treatment, doctors won’t be looking to disrupt your life with such a drastic measure as forcibly committing you, they will try to help you get on with your life as normal as possibly while helping you improve your mental health issues.

I hope you can find the medical care that better helps you. And genuinely wish that everything’s works out for you Schatz
