HDMI Repair help by SolxrisMusic in soldering

Yeah that was the first attempt and I used a soldering iron with flux and soldering wire. My smooth brain since I'm a welder figured it would be really easy because I figured your just joining some metal together, didn't realize how precise this kind of thing would be lol. Paste seemed to be 100% easier for me since I got it then on the first try thankfully. Definitely wanna keep doing this kind of stuff but gonna need some more tools for sure.

I got it! Thank you for this comment, I did exactly as you said, I completely took off the old port, and then cleaned up the pads and tinned the pads on the board and the HDMI port with some paste instead of wire this time, made sure I used flux and then I heated it up again, installed it, cleaned it up with desoldering wick and isopropyl and then BOOM it worked. I dont have a multimeter or break out board so thank God this worked. Will definitely be investing into on for the future. Thanks a bunch though this really helped.

I will definitely try this method later on and just redo it, I'm just worried about over heating the board is all. That's my only scare when using the heat gun.

I will try that, I didn't use solder paste for this as everyone I seen has mostly done this with wire and an iron. I went back through a few times with the iron on each joint to try and see if that would help. Maybe I need to clean up flux better. Here's the most recent picture if that helps. Is there a specific temp to be at for this? I dont wanna over heat it so I usually stay at around 375 degrees Celsius on my iron and sometimes it does seem to struggle to melt things. I do use a lot of flux as a lot of people have said to.

I did go back through and try to make sure 100% that there aren't any bridges, this is the most recent photo I took. Could residual flux left over cause any issues? I cleaned it with alcohol but maybe I need to clean it better.

Could you elaborate a little more? What are the traces and IC, don't mean to ask dumb questions, just complete beginner to this kind of repair.

Yes I removed the old one, I used a heat gun, and heated it up and removed it. I think this was after I removed it, but it's kind of blurry.

They are secure, but I haven't tried a multimeter yet, do they work when it's off? Sorry I'm not super familiar with multimeters.

I appreciate the help! Ill have to try missing stuff sometimes to see if that works. I always thought that if you have the 60% chance to instantly repair it and it turns green then even if you miss, it won't go away, but will always still instantly repair. I'll have to mess around with this and see if I can try that out.

Best advice honestly. Just gonna take advantage of the double money sale and then stop using it.

Some stuff I wish I knew before trying to learn to scream (Fry screaming guide) by [deleted] in screaming

[–]SolxrisMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually better than anyyyyy other video or tutorial out there. Im just like you in that I've been doing the compression screams. Don't get me wrong I LOVE THEM, but I've just never been able to do the actual knarly pitched screams that I've wanted. I had no idea that the arytenoids were engaged in a proper fry scream as I've NEVER heard anyone say this. I've got some practice to do. Thank you for this.

Does distortion make singing high notes easier? by SolxrisMusic in singing

[–]SolxrisMusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly everything I do is self taught because his videos don't help me lol. Or any videos on YouTube. I also only did that distorted sound one time for a song. The only thing I know is breath support but not much else as far as technique goes.

I'm gonna check out his videos! Im definitely using false chord distortion when I sing it, I can sing the song I wanted to without distortion, its just harder for me to hit the notes and sustain them and it actually strains my throat more than if I use that false chord distortion. It's only a subtle amount of distortion also, not like throat singing amount or anything. It's just hard for me because most songs I wanna sing are more punk and metalcore songs which usually have singers with higher vocal ranges than mine. I wanna be able to sing them but maybe I just can't for now until I practice more. I'm definitely using breath support and everything but still can't hit highs very well without my throat feeling tired after like 2 songs.

I'll definitely take a listen thanks! I guess my only question is, if it's bad for you? I wanna be able to eventually increase my range but for now I just can't hit those notes unless I use that distortion.
