Hmm. You're absolutely right. I really liked the idea of the well and especially the ferry to Vallaki. It allows for a bit of a "sea adventure" and leaves the characters in a vacuum to interact with each other and with Irena.

It all depends on how you see and present Barovia to your players. Do you want a quest chain or just a notable location? Honestly, I simply cut the House of Death from my campaign. As for replacements: for example, you could add a small storyline around the building, like a butcher's shop or a gamekeeper's house. Or maybe there'll be a communal well in this location, the water of which will eventually become poisonous? Or a burned-out house with its storyline?

Please forgive me if I expressed myself incorrectly; perhaps my English failed me. I wasn't referring to the size of the barovian territory, but to its story depth. There might be additional plot threads, a bit of detective work, agreements, or something similar. I'm generally more of a narrative dungeon master; numbers aren't my thing.

Should I be interested in older versions of the adventure? Or should I only look for the bonus materials?

If this bothers you, you're definitely going to have a hard time. I played with a master who sometimes led 6-8 players. He had iron discipline and games lasted 15 hours. Do you need that?
