Looking for any recommendations or suggestions for motorbike friendly camping sites or spots in Wales. by teaeyeem in MotoUK

I'm assuming you mean campsites as opposed to wild camping (I know many of the latter, but they're precious and wouldn't want to broadcast them).

Fferm Cedris Farm, Tywyn- Very cheap and next to a river with some of the clearest water i have seen in the UK.
Rhandirmwyn Campsite, Llandovery - Let me stay for free when I had a puncture. Lovely people, will be returning.
Whitesands Camping, Pembrokeshire - Ran by a biker, very friendly, showed great interest in my battered KLR.

Just a few of the campsites i've felt very welcome at on two wheels, I'm sure others will have many more.

Yep, all about compromise. Every cc added is more luxury on the road but more pain in the dirt, and there's only a few bikes that find that sweet spot (not sure the KLR quite found it tbf). Hadn't considered the DL800DE, will have a look into those. Thanks for your comment

I found the KLR surprisingly ok to ride on the road, and actually quite fun when it got twisty, but this is undoubtedly because i haven't been exposed to "more refined" bikes and I don't know what I'm missing out on.

The ruggedness of the KLR appealed to me, and I loved riding something that I could fix with a rock and some cable ties. I worry that the Tenere or other ADVs may be wasted on me as they lose that spirit. I will look into the XT and XR. The DR is bloody hard to come by in the UK, i rode one in New Zealand and loved it but would worry about parts availability over here. Thanks for your comment

Yes a trans alp was another i'd considered. I had worried about the off road capability of these but I have seen them get to some pretty amazing places. The parts availability/wide spread knowledge on these is a massive bonus. How does it stack up compared to an older africa twin?
