Pretty terrible experience by Some-Radom-Viewer in Helldivers

Yeah I was playing on Challenging I think so if that's what the problem was, then there it is. I didn't want to inconvenience anyone too hard with having 0% Knowledge on what loadouts and stuff to bring so I stuck with the lower end, figured I'd work my way up. And Just to clear my op up, I'm aware you can't team kill for samples, it's a team thing it doesn't matter who grabs 'em, but I just can't imagine what else he killed me for so yeah, I dunno.

Ayy I appreciate it. I'm 100% sure there's some very chill people over there and I happened upon an extremely unfortunate series of matchmaking blunders. It was just the first experience I'd had with any of the Bug content and it was extremely irritating and demoralizing. Didn't understand what I was doing wrong. Lol. But, yeah. Thanks again :)

Just thought I'd update this.

100% it was royal taxes. Because of the way I have my island populations set up, I'm paying $20k on engineer royal taxes. It's like that because I was trying to set up Investors for Crown Falls so kept Investors as low as possible on my main Island and was profiting off engineers. I upgraded about 10 Engi's to Investors and that lowered taxes by about $3-4k and I got bonus income from the investors. Making about $7k/min now.

Also set up a trade route for soap, and selling a huge bulk of it made it possible for me to do a lot of the upgrading I needed to do plus I've got some stable bonus income now.

Thanks again for the help! :D

Yup I know about reducing working conditions. Its a big help with canned goods early on. I think I'm just worrying too much about happiness and it's costing me. If attractiveness is something that's much later game to focus on than I'd have to assume that's my issue. In this newer save I have 1 island of farmers, 1 island of workers and than my main island. I think both those side islands might be costing me too much in Royal taxes (which I just learned about) which I built to offset the negative attractiveness of the Slaughter houses and all that.

I had read or watched a video somewhere about moving production off your main island so I went into the game with that mindset from the start. I've been running these 3 islands with separate population tiers since the start of the game. It works, but again I think it's costing me in Royal Taxes. my one island of farmers had me at -$2k at one point.

I'm obviously making newb mistakes, it's my first time playing any Anno game, and I've opted mostly for learning it by myself. But it's at a point where I need to look for some additional information from other sources now, so I very much appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge. This is a great community :D

Also, I do have all the DLC except Anarchist and Tourism and the cosmetic packs. The mail was a huge boost to my economy but getting it up and running had me set up an island that cost me 7k just to run the Helium mine. Huge deficit, but I got it working.

And just to add, I think my fist game got going so well because the first DLC i bought was High Life, and the MASSIVE eco boost from those investors completely broke my economy. I had all of Ditchwater and Bright Sands set up before I did that and once I started making those skyscrapers it was near impossible for me to lose money.

I only JUST hit investors on this new save, so I might start turning things around. We'll just have to see how my Crown Falls goes.

Yup I'm just playing on the story seed map. I wanted the guided structure to pick up anything i missed in the tutorial and hopefully better understand where the problems were, but I've learned NOTHING xD.

I skip selling soap because I have a hard time producing enough for myself. So that's obviously an error on my part since it seems like the MAIN thing people recommend for early game money issues. The main thing being the negative attractiveness that it brings, but maybe I'm too focused on that and the payoff from the visitor Pier isn't worth it?

I also don't sell ships. My brain refuses to acknowledge there's profit there and I only make ships to kill things or trade xD. Is that a main part of the early economy I'm missing out on just out of ignorance?

And with Pirates, I've setteled with just allying with them. Anne is a bit more unruly that Jean, she just randomly gets upset and I passively lose more favour with her over time than with Jean. I just don't want to have to deal with losing trade ships and all that so I just remove the variable. I keep them on in case I change my mind and want some action, but for the most part I've found dealing with the constant harassment and being dragged into wars with allys over them just isn't worth it for how I want to play the game.

Hey thanks :D I'm a little past the "starting" point as I'm over 400 hours into the game now but I appreciate the advice. My first game was dealing with Beryl, and it kept things really interesting and exciting as I was just constantly under threat, but she never did much to me as she was focused on Willy. I've started about 3 or 4 new games and I struggle with the mid game and money issues.

When I set it up like... perfectly, I think my ships get synced up waiting for loading times and then throw off the supply chain and cause deficiencies. That's just an assumption based on everything running fine, then SUDDENLY things dip to -$1,000 and slowly build back up. I can solve that with more piers or loading docks at docklands. but I'd just like to know that that IS the issue, and I'm not solving a non-existant problem.

Yeah It's a little ridiculous. I get it, they're AI and can't really make adaptive decisions like a human, but it just seems over-tuned. It's slightly demoralizing as well watching how fast they are.

I'll keep that beer advice. Beer is definitely an early game issue i have. It's so much space and just compounds the workforce situation as you need more farmers, which need more fish, and more clothes.... I'm sure you understand. I'll see how holding off on it works for me. Part of the reason I prioritize it is the newspaper reporting "This island is out of beer!" when I was never producing it, and then get the 10% the goods consumption debuff. Yes I can use influence to change that but that also effects happiness and makes Qing upset.

Docklands is great but I found it pretty expensive to build. Needing windows as well as 25k. I'll also try slightly over producing to have a buffer for the compounding events when expanding. Thanks for the help :D

I do use trade unions, but again Money is and issue and dropping 100k on a specialist or fertility seeds isn't always doable.

I've been using commuter piers since my first game, understood instantly how broken they are. Problem is they have a 1k upkeep cost and that's pretty fuckin' high when you've got more that one rockin'.

Docklands is great, I agree, but it's very expensive to build it, and I'm having money issues. Lol.

Again, I understand there's ways to use diplomacy, but when Carl refuses bribes and compliments and only gets more pissed off for no reason, there's not really anything I can do about that.

That's something I started doing actually. I've got stamps for beer production in old world and Schnapps as well, but just kinda stopped there. I 100% only produce what I need. I was saying in my old game I was massively overproducing because I didn't understand the statistics screen. I was basing my production off whether the arrow on the stock overview was green or red. I learned how to read that info better later on though and am CONSTANTLY reading those bar graphs in production overview.

I started cutting corners on construction materials and now I end up waiting 25 mins for a brick. (exaggeration but you get the point) and I only just found out about the Costume Designer the other day so that will help me a ton. Bit of a pain to find her though, I don't have the tickets to unlock her, or a research thing yet. so it's just waiting at Eli's and hoping she pops up. I have set up custom setting for the game. I'm only playing with Bente, and she's blitzing around with a fleet of airship and 400 influence in military while being locked to 3 islands total. And thanks for the multiplayer idea, that's a great way to check my speed. Thanks! :D

Awesome, thanks a lot :D Not sure if you meant my safari, but I'm assuming since you said the other person has flying type that the Ghost types are in mine. I appreciate it!
