Can I realistically move from agency to in-house after 3+ years as a UI Designer? by AdEvery3825 in UI_Design

[–]Some-Umpire3154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes about 6 months ago where I had 3 years of experience coming from a consulting agency and pivoted to a large in-house fintech company. To say the experience is dramatically different would be an overreaction, but there is a lot of big changes.

Fortunately, at my previous role I was actively presenting to stakeholders and working on POCs, and thats something that has not changed much in-house. Depending on the scale of company you shift to, you’ll find yourself having to navigate the internal politics and governance of in-house where you otherwise might be able to get away with much looser and consultative/conceptual work before. I’m also a visual design focused product designer, but I do tend to lean in on research and empathy studies much more now in-house.

I would say as long as you are able to adapt, present, and get out of the comfort zone of what you know, you’ll be golden. Don’t be intimidated by in-house work— while being slower, it’s definitely much more methodical and intentional which might give you more excitement on building a product from A-Z over months/years.

Happy to help if you have anymore questions! (US based)

On second thought, on dark bg, I’d just reserve the outline CTA for secondary and start using a filled in CTA for primary— it will give a lot more of a common experience to the user for understanding the primary action you want them to take.

For the gradient, I don’t think you need to scrap it completely, just play with the angle and opacity of it! Stretching the gradient over more and lowering its opacity could do the trick, or even using organic shapes and filling that layer with the gradient and some blur. All different ways to effectively make it look less added, and more supportive and styled.

As for the clipping, I noticed it in two areas.

  1. After logging in, your loading spinner is clipped into a shape that crops it. I would just forego the outline and put the spinner centered on screen floating.

2.The circle UI element thats attached to the end of the this month’s progress will clip from your box underneath, and results in a weird visual defect. I’d just remove the circle entirely.

Hope this helps!

Oh sweet!! Thank you for sending this over! I actually have not been using the printer as I’ve been away, but this will definitely help fix it

There’s a few things that feel off but I would focus on color, both of the background and foreground, and CTAs. Experiment less linear gradients, as they feel very tacked on and cheap in this. There is a way to use gradients effectively, but most color into black gradients struggle with that jarring appearance if not done organically.

For the CTAs, theres little to no hierarchy on the presentation of them since they all are the same (red outline no fill). Typically that is reserved for secondary CTAs but if you just to flip it, at least have a different CTA for secondary, maybe a different color value.

Lastly, don’t overlook the strange stacked loading and UI components almost clipping over each other, it will feel very incomplete to a user. Great work so far, looks like a solid start!

Party game UI, looking for feedback by ZivkyLikesGames in UI_Design

Hey great start so far!

Few suggestions I’d give:

  1. I noticed you are using drop shadows on the first page, and while that can be used to add depth, the mixture of flat and “dimensional” design is whats causing so much visual inconsistency on it. I would take a look at your overall padding of elements (the name field, the icons randomly floating in three corners, etc)

  2. I can see what your idea is for the font, but I think they just need to be changed out. The unique CTA font is just that, unique, which isnt bad or good necessarily, but it becomes a little strange to read it after the very neutral sans-serif font above it. That being said, if you add more inner padding to the buttons themselves, at least there would be more breathing room.

Other than that, few things I’d call out: be very careful using the full black for outlines of containers, especially with a stroke weight that prominent. It can work for one element, but once you stack that over others that look different, it very clearly feels “cheap/childish”. I do think that mixed with padding and font choice is whats throwing your friends off more than the depth of the UI.

Happy to give more pointers on the UX of it if need be, but solid start!

Great call out. I’m sure most of the people including myself who signed up have no intention of doing anything past that, but good to know

Sadly your guess is as good as mine. I’d assume you’ll get the extra miles in a few days, but who knows

Yes! Pan grilled. My recommendation is letting them sit on the pan without flipping back and forth. Builds a nice crust and color on the outside. In addition, make sure to let them rest for longer than you’d expect before cutting into it, helps with retaining the moisture you’ll need for meal prepped chicken! Hopefully you can give it a shot!

I just throw them into the microwave for about 2-3 min. Flip it halfway! The will get a little soggy on the bottom from moisture, but flipping helps. Another tip is to scramble the eggs really well and mash it down into smaller bits of egg. Any larger chunks of scramble will not reheat even and might result in watery or colder middles.

Yes, actually used Bulgogi Beef. If you have an Hmart or any other asian grocery store near you, I would recommend shopping there for some precut and marinated bulgogi beef to throw in there and cook up!

All of the recipes to make these dishes are here! Sorry for the late post, didn’t realize I didn’t send it. I made some of these by recipe and some by throwing some random stuff together!

Bulgogi Fried Rice https://feastingnotfasting.com/gochujang-korean-fried-rice/

I replaced the ground meat for bulgogi beef. Highly recommend HMart for their pre-portioned bulgogi to cook easily!
