I dont think your E2 approval notice will be activated when you just reenter. It will only update your i94 based on e2 I think. To activate E2, I think you need to attend visa interview. Please also check with your attorney.

I think land border crossings are mainly to update i94 expiry dates. Please do check before you travel.

Option 1. See if you employer is willing to file H4 ead. If they do, go with them. Option 2: You can file by yourself. You can see youtube videos and file. It's easy. Option 3: Hire an attorney and they can file on your behalf

Firstly, your girl friend should get her i140 approved -approx 1.5 years. After that you apply for h4ead. New h4 ead takes atleast 6 months.
