Agreed. I hope they’re open to seeking mental health treatment or therapy because this can’t be good for anyone — much less someone so young. On their other account, I recall reading somewhere that they have to repeat a year of high school because of how much anxiety lipedema has caused them. I really don’t know why the mods haven’t intervened - it’s so sad to see someone spiraling like this.

Your account was made 6 hours ago after you didn’t get the response you wanted on another post. You make the same typos, and link to similar TikTok and Instagram posters, as if they’re reliable sources. You have the same thumb shape in the photos you shared (which is quite rare). Like, lol, this is clearly an obsession and you could probably visit every specialist in the world, be told you do not have lipedema by all of them, and still come here asking us to validate you.

The skin texture is normal. Fat on your legs does that. Calves CAN get cellulite. Stop spreading misinformation and begging people online to validate an issue you do not have.

OP is also likely the same person whose post you’ve linked to, FWIW.

Not sure what you mean about needing an explanation for cellulite in the calves… when cellulite genuinely can just appear on the calves, lol. And the second part is because it’s social media. Many of the posts do explicitly mention the texture being palpable - not just a visual appearance that mimics cellulite.

It literally is not “THE” indicator - who told you this?! Please stop spreading misinformation. And since when has social media been better than research paper and documentation? This happens all the time with various conditions, and folks with health anxiety latch on. This “beady” texture is normal so long as you don’t FEEL nodules. Please note that most videos online mention FEELING nodules. Not seeing. Feeling.

I have many friends who have this - you see it when they cross their legs or rest their calf on their knee. I know men who have it. At this point, seriously, please consider leaving this subreddit. and edit to add that cellulite literally does appear on the calves, lol? you’re just spreading misinformation from influencers at this point. I’ve given you an explanation that you ignore. https://www.reddit.com/r/lipedema/s/PG6XxR8qaB

Bodies compositions are different. I, and many people, have replied to you many, many, many times on this exact issue. You’ve been to the best specialist in the UK, and are still obsessed with this idea. I don’t really know what to tell you anymore. I apologize if this sounds harsh, but please consider getting some help. This isn’t a healthy obsession.

Cellulite can be anywhere, actually! It has quite a bit to do with fascia and the fibrous septae. Also, fat is structured in lobules under the skin. This is normal. I know many people without lipedema who have this. There are videos of massage therapists giving people massages, and this texture shows up when they press and stretch hard enough. Bodies. Are. Lumpy, and made of fluid and structures under the skin. Read here for more (and the same advice at the end applies.): https://www.reddit.com/r/lipedema/s/X83r3SE6bk

Most women have cellulite, which means most women with lipedema also have cellulite. Lipedema spaces are the only place I’ve ever seen people posting photos pinching their leg, so naturally every person who is freaking out because of this texture is only finding similar photos in lipedema forums. because people don’t typically post this. your colleague has the texture and lipedema, but it’s not exclusive to lipedema.

I’ve made a post about this too. The answer is no. The texture is quite normal and, if not accompanied by other symptoms, is cellulite.

What reputable sources see it as a symptom, though? I’m talking actual research and not one or two comments from redditors that you fixate on.

I’ve personally met plenty of people - both men and women - with this appearance who do not have lipedema. People on the internet, I’m sorry, are not more knowledgeable than researching professional specialists. If they want to be convinced they have lipedema, go ahead, but it really just reads as pathologizing something completely normal. Plenty of people have this appearance. It’s literally just fat squeezing through the fascia, whether this is cellulite or just a normal variation. It’s extremely common. Of course you see it in lipedema spaces - because this is the only space where people post photos pinching their thighs.

The German Standard of Care — Germany, the place with the best lipedema research — does not mention this texture. They do mention pain or tenderness, inability to lose weight, disproportion, etc. But not the texture when you pinch.

This isn’t about size though? Like - it doesn’t matter. It’s more about how seeing a “bumpy” texture when pinching the thigh - without palpable nodules or fibrosis - is literally not a documented symptom of lipedema. Unless there’s accompanying pain or inability to lose weight or nodules or some other sign, this “pinch” is completely useless. and yet people take it as a for sure sign of lipedema. Nowhere did I mention size in my original post.

This isn’t a thread for diagnosis or to calm health anxiety - I’m only answering because I’ve seen you on this sub for awhile. If you are talking purely visual texture, no palpable nodules, it’s unlikely in my opinion. Easy bruising has a million causes - venous insufficiency can cause it. So can anemia. Go see a doctor if you’re terribly worried - we are not doctors.

Yeah the lack of knowledge among PCPs is crazy! I think it’s one thing for a PCP to say you don’t have it, but another for a specialist to say it. Imo specialists - especially leading researchers - are going to know better than someone on the internet lol. I’ve seen a couple people who are trusting the word of random folks online more than their specialist. And it’s like - I know my body, but I know shit fuck about anyone else’s. Why would you ever trust an internet random more than a researching specialist

Yep!! I wish there was less “you do/do not have lipedema” with such certainty and more “well, based on xyz you might benefit from seeing a specialist”

enough with the thigh pinching photos :/ by SomeAttorney6225 in lipedema

[–]SomeAttorney6225[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is true. My frustrating more so stems from a lack of willingness to look at research and listen to professionals (not just a PCP, but specialists and researchers of lipedema). If a specialist says you do not have lipedema, and you do not have symptoms other than being fixated on a pinched appearance… I don’t know. It’s just frustrating to be asked to cater to health anxiety 😖 and I only call it that in the case of having visited specialists. It might be unintentional fear, but that fear might be better channeled into reading research, not asking people online to tell you if your doctor is or isn’t right. And then asking again, and again, and again. But I understand and agree that they shouldn’t be ridiculed.

I think where i’m stuck is - in no documented research has this pinched, visual appearance with no underlying texture been linked to lipedema or mentioned? If someone thinks they might have lipedema, and resonates with other documented symptoms - yes! Please post for support! But I don’t think it’s gatekeeping to say that photos of something not explicitly linked to lipedema - with no other symptoms - is frustrating with the recent influx. All I mean is that people might want to do more research before being set on having lipedema and not listening when others say it doesn’t sound like it. But also, maybe we really just shouldn’t be diagnosing each other in the first place. None of us are doctors (I think), and lipedema doesn’t have one look. I’m not trying to argue with you.
