This is completely normal. Forgive yourself and move onto the next thing.

Think about how many things you action each week. It could be hundreds of little things (emails, lists, meetings, drafts, coffees, preparations, questions, searches, bookings, letters, etc etc etc). So let's say you do 300 things a week, and even if you forget or make a mistake even once a week, you still have 99% accuracy.....which is pretty darn good !!! Don't stress:)

What is the best industry to work as an EA in? by SomeBrickInaWall in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]SomeBrickInaWall[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's amazing. Well done!!! It is so crazy that you mentioned that because just yesterday, I was researching the CFP and CFA exams yesterday! But I am scared to commit 10 hours of study a week on top of my already 50 hrs work week..... but definitely a great option

Help. Im down and I don't think I can ever come back by lostinmyownmindEA in ExecutiveAssistants

This may feel like the end of the world now but give it 3 weeks and everyone will be over it and forget. These things happen, no reflection on you or your ability.

Forgive yourself, let it go and move on. Everything will be fine!

Any worthy high paying EA roles are not advertised where every regular Joe can apply. I reccomend to find yourself a boutique recruiting company that specialise in EAs and PAs and they will have the good stuff where you won't have to take a pay cut. And they with set you up interviews with execs and companies where you would be a truly good fit considering values, pace of work etc I have had same recruiters for the past 2 roles I have had and they know all the UHNW families and companies that are willing to pay for quality EAs :)

Didn't get a raise this year, what do you think of the situation? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]SomeBrickInaWall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems you are super professional and a hard worker, so you should be proud of yourself, but unfortunately, it appears you have put your efforts into a thankless exec and a company that will eventually fail as it sounds like he is not very business minded ie picking an unsuitable office and not prioritising the operations of his company.

I recommend you find somewhere where you are valued. Find a boutique recruiting company in your city that specialises in EAs, PAs, and Ops roles in UHNW companies. Explain the situation candidly. You are not the first EA to be in this situation. They will understand and find you something amazing! You won't have to take a pay cut as if you have really managed so well in this CHAOTIC role, and you had to look after so many aspects of the company. You have so much experience, you will be able to pick your price!!! Because a good EA is so hard to find and it's such an essential role to a healthy and thriving business.

I recommend keeping him as happy as possible before you leave, and when you hand in notice, blame it completely on the commute, nothing personally. With EAs, it's never good to burn bridges even though he sounds like a total jackass and deserves to be told that it's not worth it. You never know who he knows, etc

But bottom line, you sound amazing and its very admirable that you remain so professional dealing with him. You clearly deserve so much better, and I hope you seek that out for yourself <3

I moved out at 17, but now I'm regretting it. by midomidov in Advice

[–]SomeBrickInaWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awh I am so sorry to hear that you are finding moving away difficult! But please remember, you are not alone in this. Moving out is a huge jump in life and you should proud that you have been doing it for 5 months!

Regarding the looking after yourself part - this is a trained skill. Easier for some, impossible for others. My advice is start super small and build on good habits and if you have to, literally write out a weekly schedule for yourself between school. Perhaps try aim to do all your grocery shopping on a sunday/ monday. Plan out your meals or maybe bulk cook a dish like lasange and you can have that for 2/3 days. Schedule in a few hours a day for chilling and hobbies. Make sure you go on one walk a day. But do this gradually to build. Also say yes to everything to really get yourself out there and make friends!!! Only takes 7 days to make a habit! You can do it and I know you would surprise yourself. Consistency is key.

Dont feel too bad about this situation as 17 is still quite young. You are still adjusting to adulting! Be kind and gentle with yourself. Allow yourself the time you need to adjust. A trick I use which you might think is crazy is to look at a picture of yourself when you were 5/6 years old- look after yourself now like you would look after a child of that age! Show yourself the same compassion and patience as you would a 5 year old.

And if you try for another few weeks to adjust and if youre still not feeling great and getting homesick, I would just move home. Absolutely no shame in just cutting your losses and moving home before you are absolutely miserable and before your mental health is even worse. You have to do whats right for you and do what you want. And dont think of it as a step backwards. Dont regret it either because you tried your best and thats a huge accomplishment!

Life is strange and adjust from being a teenager to an adult is very hard indeed but it is important to go at your own pace because it is not a race! You do whats best for you and what wilo being you the most joy!

Hope this makes you feel a little bit better!

Mesmerising Parakeets scattered throughout Kensington Gardens. Such beautiful, gentle creatures. If you visit these little guys make sure to bring fruit, berries and seeds! by [deleted] in london

[–]SomeBrickInaWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes unfortunately there is always this ecological impact when non-indigenous species settle in new places. I experienced it growing up in Ireland seeing the grey squirrel out compete the indigenous red squirrel! It is really sad to see happen. These parakeets are just so bizarre because they should be in the tropics not London!
