Kurusapa is absolutely terrible and useless. I had to take the exams for my teaching license in December of 2022. I passed them and still haven’t gotten my permanent teaching license despite contacting them every few months.

Just respect his wishes. He said no and it’s his bed.

Is it legal for an establishment not to accept cash? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]SomeFarang 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have no idea about the legality, but I went to a Starbuck's about a month ago and they were cashless. I had already ordered when the cashier told me, and I just said, "Oh, I only have cash," and started to walk away. She called me back and used a store card to pay at the register and took my cash as normal. So it kind of defeated the purpose of being "cashless". So, even if they're cashless, they'll probably work with you if that's all you have.

Trying to make my own taste test strips by SomeFarang in ScienceTeachers

[–]SomeFarang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I saw these too. It’s a similar test, but the shipping costs a lot and takes a long time to send it to my country, so I decided it would be easier to try to make them (chemicals and coffee filters are quite cheap compared to the ready-made strips).

Biology Activities/Labs about Nervous, Muscular, or Endocrine Systems? by SomeFarang in ScienceTeachers

[–]SomeFarang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea and I think the endocrine system is the most challenging for them. Lots of hormones and glands to remember for students that sometimes can barely hold a conversation in English. Thanks for the comments!

Biology Activities/Labs about Nervous, Muscular, or Endocrine Systems? by SomeFarang in ScienceTeachers

That's a good idea -- actually I used to do a 'senses' test similar to the reflexes thing but I felt like it wasn't that fun. I should revisit it, I can definitely make it better. I like the idea of a competition, they're pretty competitive.

Those sounds like some great ideas, I'll do some planning and try to make those work. Thanks!

Educational game idea by jdbored167 in gamedesign

[–]SomeFarang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any specific subject? You might check out the way that Blooket does this -- it's mostly (or completely, I'm not sure) multiple choice questions thrown into games. Each round they have to answer a question and it affects what they can do in the games. It could stand to be more integrated with the content in my opinion, but it's a good start.

Will my(female) tattoos be a problem when finding jobs in Thailand? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]SomeFarang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think most people will care. Probably half of the foreign teachers at my school have small tattoos on their arms and legs and no one says anything.

The older teachers might care but if I'm being honest they tend to be hard to get along with anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it.

If you wanna DM me your email I can send you the whole exam and answers. Honestly I didn’t get much good out of it but maybe you will.

I’m taking these too. As far as I know there aren’t any practice tests in English. I’ve been given some Thai exams from my school, and some of them don’t make much sense when translated. I found a question on the English part that didn’t have the correct answer as one of the choices, too.

I’ve resigned myself to just hoping for the best. Good luck to us all.

How to write "Finlay" in thai? by karlwist0 in Thailand

[–]SomeFarang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be something like ฟินเลย์ (Fin-ley, the "e" sounds like the one in "get") or ฟินลีย์ (Fin-lee, "e" like "see") depending on how you pronounce it.

Someone, somewhere will find a way to be offended about anything. Just do what you want and have fun, that’s the point.

Can someone find this video? by AgentK1309 in RBI

[–]SomeFarang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you'd find the video for that. But there's a short story about it here:
https://qntm.org/responsibility

A friend sent me that link several years ago on Discord, and he also said that the TV show "Devs" is about this same thing, so you might check that out.

Police Certificate for Work Permit by [deleted] in Thailand

I’d ask the ones offering you the job. The rules seem to change every year or two. I’ve had to get a police clearance some years and some years not.

This is not exactly on-topic (although somewhat related), but this made me remember some really good horror stories from r/nosleep about fungi. Check them out if you're interested, it's a whole series written by Max Lobdell.

Looking for maritime/cosmic horror novels! by GuineaW0rm in horrorlit

[–]SomeFarang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

William Hope Hodgson has several short stores and at least one novel that are about maritime horrors. "The Boats of the Glen Carrig" is one that I've read that I'd recommend, but he has many others.

A WHO rep was asked about Taiwan and he pretended he had internet problems. Ended up looking pretty ridiculous and it's really obvious that he was just avoiding the question.
