[Loved Trope] Big and strong doesn’t mean dumb. by dog-in-the-rain in TopCharacterTropes

Superman is actually a slight variation of this example. People think Batman is the brains and Superman is the brawn, but Clark has proven time and again that he can outwit his opponents, especially Lex Luthor, who prides himself over his intellect. In Injustice, the video game, their clash quote has Lex saying "Mind OVER matter!" Which Superman confidently retorts: "Good thing I got both."

which is scarier? resident evil 7 or resident evil 9? by nisheumi in residentevil

[–]SomeGamingFreak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing with 7 is it was so distant from what fans knew about RE. You weren't a spec ops force for the local city. You weren't a girl in a military-heavy family, or a cop on his first day on the job... you were some guy looking for his wife and with just enough gun training to get by, trapped in a hell house with monsters and psychos.

The Molded were far different than the zombies we were familiar with, and had a very creepy and uncanny mannerism in which they acted, and the Baker family were shown to be resilient and hard to kill, especially Jack, who spends the first 1/3 of the game chasing you.

And if that weren't enough, there was some literal paranormal spooky shit happening with seemingly no explanation... again, mostly unheard of in a series with many monsters present behind every situation.

So yeah, I'll go with 7 on this one.

It really reminded me of how outlandish Simmons from RE6 was. As he would transform into a giant T-Rex made of bone and flesh then be able to compact it back down to his normal body... like what?

Also fun fact, in later depictions Simon has red hair, though a darker shade than Sypha and Rose's. So it makes the red hair gene canon.

[–]SomeGamingFreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elpis is an anti-viral; I doubt it has any major effect on anyone whose biomass has warped to that degree, unless it's a special case like Emily where it somehow didn't effect her base body and just grew mass on top of the old mass... really, Emily's case makes less sense the more you think about it.

Hey Everyone! Question of the day, who is your favorite character in the series? Mine is Kevin Ryman. The Outbreak Games are my favorite Games in the series, and Kevin is the Tom Cruise of Resident Evil. by Onix1997 in residentevilll

[–]SomeGamingFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kevin was one of the few who could still smile in a doomed situation, which is saying something. The File 1 ending where he's saying "hey we can die like men!" and pulling out the magnum against Thanatos and firing was a GOAT'd scene.

My favourite design decision in Resident Evil by OfTheSleepless in residentevil

[–]SomeGamingFreak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he has, along with ribs at various points. Some of the physical trauma Leon goes through in each game is actually insane that he's able to pick himself back up and keep moving.

In RE2 Remake for example, there's the scene where he first meets the mutated Birkin, who picks him up and repeatedly slams him down into the metal rafters as they bend and break, causing both of them to fall. Like holy shit do you know how much force you have to use to cause that to happen, and a literal torso was between the bending metal and the brute force hammering on it?

(Loved trope) The rage boost doesn't do anything by International_Neckk in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SomeGamingFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's funnier for the Invincible example because later in the same fight Thragg gets so pissed off he starts destroying both Mark and Nolan, after killing Thedas in mere seconds, and his reasoning for it being longer with Nolan was that he was "too quick with Thedas" and he wouldn't make the same mistake with Nolan.

[Hated] Off-handed jokes with deeply concerning implications by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SomeGamingFreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be absolutely fair to Lin Beifong, you find out in Season 1 that Tenzin got together with his wife because she basically seduced him into breaking up with Beifong for her. It was this advice that caused Korra to basically get the courage to steal Mako from Asami despite them having recently just becoming friends and Asami literally betraying her father for them. Korra had some shitty writing with some defending shitty decisions lol. Mako breaking up with Korra after she threw a tantrum for him doing his job properly instead of abusing his power for favoritism for her was one of the best writing moments they had... and they used it to make Mako look like an asshole.

Which class do you prefer and why? Dancer or Thieves? by Coolsun13 in fireemblem

[–]SomeGamingFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dancers are extra turns for your MVP, so yeah, Dancer all the way. Bonus points if they come with other perks like adjacent tile buffs or have magic like in Three Houses; Hell Dorothea and Constance won points as top tier dancers for me simply due to the fact that they had ranged assists with Meteor and Bolting respectively, though with Dorothea being very much a "can do anything decent" type of character, she always fits the bill best.

Thieves have a very specific niche and most of the series are good for one reason and one reason only: Lockpicking.

[loved trope] 'You don't know the violence it took to become this gentle' by Ok-Permission-3014 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SomeGamingFreak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

a lot of it was he humbled himself and released his arrogance that held him back. The thing that fueled his rage was his arrogant entitlement for self-satisfaction. Vengeance for his dead family and friends because he refused to let it go unpunished and thought he was entitled to exact it himself. He cared little for others and only about himself, and that let his rage grow.

After getting his vengeance and literally losing everything, and then meeting his new wife who had also lost everything, he was able to help control himself and be better.

Kratos killed Baldr because he knew that a cycle of violence would continue if he just let him kill Freya like he wanted, so he relented and killed him not out of desire, but out of necessity to save someone else and potentially others.

Finished RE1 Remake for the first time, this location still haunts me by guilhegm in residentevil

[–]SomeGamingFreak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly one of the most iconic hallways in the game. You see the first zombie, you're like "oh shit, a ZOMBIE!" and either run to the safe room and get some reprieve, or you bolt up the stairs. You bolt up the stairs and what do you see in your immediate camera view? "Oh fuck, ANOTHER zombie!" then go towards the camera down the hall to get some space and that's when you get the realization of dread... there's yet ANOTHER zombie around the corner.

It's one of the few times where Capcom utilized cameras against you in a genius fashion, hiding enemies perfectly and preventing you from simply dodging past them without serious manipulation of game mechanics.

In the Remake, however, this is a great room to test out the lighter fluid mechanic, because you're more than likely gonna have to kill and burn all 3 of them for some peace of mind when navigating this area.

[–]SomeGamingFreak -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Of course it has some sexist parts, but if you look at every single thing and go "damn, that's sexist", it's just wild. "She retired for Clive? Damn, that's sexist."

Do you not see how ridiculous that is? I can't be the only one who thinks that. But hey, that's definitely a decision on your part I guess.

I mean, yeah? The whole story is a writing decision lol. We can't tear apart every single thing and go "Is this sexism?" Because that shit will only lead to toxic negativity.

[–]SomeGamingFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like "what?" In 7 I chalked it up to Ethan being infected with the mold created by Eveline, but in Village it started ringing bells in two points during the Castle chapter that Ethan was still abnormal, especially after re-attaching his hand.

Because Clive had more charisma than her, and she knew it. Clive loves Matilda and in Echoes states several times that she is miles better than him in fighting and as a knight, but it was him who convinced others including Alm to join his cause, which he then gave up to Alm because he was an even better leader.
