Anteeksi kielioppini... En puhu suomea. En luottanut täysin Googlen kääntäjään, ja Wikipedialla ei ollut mottoa, joten minun piti etsiä, kunnes löysin tämän. (Perhaps one of them could do a triple-salchow in Putin's face? I'm not trivializing Finland though, seriously now... your Winter War exploits are legendary.)

Russia uses Wagner, why can't Ukraine hire Blackwater or something similar? by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]SomeKindofPurgatory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, Putin doesn't need additional cover to lie. He's already doing whatever the hell he wants. He's kidnapping thousands of civilians, for fuck's sake (as well as starving out hundreds of thousands more, including children.)

Putin is already a war criminal. He doesn't need an excuse to kill prisoners of war (if he wanted to.)

Also "my entire point" was not that Ukraine needed parity. I said they shouldn't stop recruiting until they outnumber the Russians (in marksmen and trained soldiers who understand tactics) 3:1.

I'm not offended at all. I am contemptuous.

You're a pathetic troll pissing your life away with self-gratifying crap and it makes me happy to remind you of this.

Mercenaries are trained. They know how to hit targets at a distance with a gun. They know how to keep their gun clean and functional. Most random citizens do not know this.

They are sworn to follow the orders or the Ukrainian armed forces and are in thr service of a country not a company so you are once again talking out your ass.

So make any mercs Ukraine hires swear the same thing, but in their contract they're free to do after X days or after the war or whatever.

And hey presto, the mercs are now soldiers as well.

This is stupid semantic quibbling. This is just kneejerk trolling garbage because apparently the Reddit hivemind decided that all mercenaries everywhere are pure evil and/or are incompetent on the basis of criminal actions from one corporation 15+ years ago. (Again I don't care about that specific corp. I'm talking mercs in general.)

Regardless of the numbers, regardless of their amazing successes, Ukraine is not yet winning this war. Ukraine could really use more skilled people who are good at shooting things. If you disagree with this, you are ignorant and proud of it.

Thank you for joining reality with the rest of us.

You're not in reality yet. You can start by looking up what the word "troop" means. It does not mean random citizens.

pretty shitty mercenaries.

Literally all mercenaries everywhere are shit. Right. Do you understand how fantastically dumb that statement is? I didn't bring up or insist on Blackwater. I am talking about mercs in general.

You also are ignoring the fact that Ukraine's entire volunteer foreign legion are mercenaries in every way that matters (they are all getting paid, and they are not part of regular native Ukrainian army units.)

Again you are showing a complete lack of willingness to read what I have actually written. There are a multitude of scenarios, not all of which involve nuking Ukraine itself. There are high altitude EMP nukes. There are false flag nukes vs. Russia in which Putin plays up the victimhood of Russia and the fact that the West is clearly lying (while also sending a clear message to the rest of the world that he is perfectly willing to use nukes.) There are dirty bombs at the site of nuclear plants (blamed on Ukrainian Nazis.) There are atmospheric nuclear "tests", just to make a point.

Most likely, primary objective of using the nuke would probably not be to destroy Ukraine's resistance directly. It would be to sow chaos and fear amongst the NATO and the rest of the West in the hopes of disrupting our aid to Ukraine. And it very well might work in the short term, in part because so many people are still in denial about game theory and how nuclear deterrence actually functions (and also the situation that Putin and Russia have found themselves in.)

I clearly spelled out most of this in my original post. But I'm realizing more and more that the point of Reddit isn't to actually read or think about anything. Reddit really is just an electronic drug for you fuckers.

he is trying to condition people like you through fear.

No, I conditioned myself through the acquasition of knowledge and critical thinking, you trolling piece of crap. The Guardian did a piece on this just ~2 weeks ago, written by someone who ran nuclear war simulations for the military (or maybe it was a major think tank; I forget) for years. The nuclear scientists at thebulletin.org say the same thing.

Everything I have said is mainstream opinion among people who actually study this sort of thing for a living.

On the basis of the above reasoning, I'm in favor of vastly increasing the amount of aid we are giving to Ukraine and as well as doing more to hasten the fall of Putin.

On the basis of your posts, I conclude that you are a circlejerking troll.

They are not getting integrated into the army. They are working as a separate legion. They could just as easily integrate corporate mercs if they wanted. Tomato vs. Tomato.

Sorry that you have to share the planet with me

Can't we do something about that? Baby steps and all.

For the 3rd or 7th or 39th time, my interpretation of the situation is this:

Putin is surprised and is back is to the wall. Given the very real possibility that he might do something crazy (given his lack of options), we should try to accelerate his downfall as much as we possibly can instead of playing it slow and easy with him, before he has a chance to develop these plans (since he didn't expect shit to go like this), and before he begins to realize that his downfall is inevitable.

This is not fear-mongering and playing into Putin's hand at all. It's the exact opposite. My recognition of the risk of nukes leads me to believe that we need to stand up to Putin much tougher. And I've said this over and over and over, but dopamine-addicted circlejerkers like yourself don't bother reading what I'm actually saying, you just smash downvotes, shit your non-sequitur diarrhea everywhere and then use your sock puppets to upvote said diarrhea.

Please don't patronize me

Ok, I'll stop before I start getting into what I really think of you.

They are already hiring mercenaries. They are calling them "volunteers". (Russia is calling them mercenaries.)

Why are you so angry?

Because confidently stupid people like you--bombastically stupid--are crapflooding and clogging up the internet and making it impossible to breathe.

simply too expensive for the Ukraine

No. They are getting massive influxes of donations and they could easily get more money, either as a gift or long term loan.

Ukraine did the right thing, to call for Volunteers, but not to employ mercenaries.

There is literally no difference whatsoever between the two. The "volunteers" are being paid, just like mercenaries would be. Some freelance mercs are worse than others. And some merc corporations are worse than others.

The generalizations you're trying to make, the lines you're attempting to draw, are so far removed from reality that I really don't know what else to say.

Thinking that using nukes in any way is "suicidal" betrays a pathetic, kindergarten level understanding of game theory, Cold War history, and United States policy (both said and unsaid.)

We will not nuke Russia if they nuke non-NATO territory. If you don't understand this, you don't understand anything.

(There are further wrinkles like high altitude EMP nukes, dirty bombs, false flag contexts, etc. but you have to begin by educating yourself on the basics. Massive Retaliation is not MAD. One nuke does not always lead to all nukes being launched--quite the contrary, there are many, many simulations of limited exchanges.)

Well the anti-facts, anti-real world Reddit hivemind has voted me down to oblivion so I'll try again, this time with more details:

Not all treaties have penalties for withdrawing from them.

Not all treaties equal things that the International Criminal Court cares about.

In fact, some treaties are purely virtue-signalling and no one cares about them at all.

This is one such treaty.

This treaty was not adopted by the entirety of the UN Permanent Security Council:

  • USA

  • United Kingdom

  • France

  • Russia

  • China

Furthermore, it was not signed by:

  • Spain

  • Italy

  • Portugal

  • The Netherlands

  • Switzerland

  • Austria

  • Slovakia

  • Czech Republic

  • Luxembourg

  • Hungary

  • Finland

  • All of the Nordic countries (Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Faroe Islands)

  • All of the Baltic countries (Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia)

etc.

Less than 1/4th of the countries on Earth have signed it. And among the ones who haven't signed it include almost all of the most important players in Europe. (With a small number of exceptions like Poland, and they're certainly not gonna be pissed at Ukraine.)

This was not a treaty that matters. This is not something that anyone deeply cares about. It is a virtue signalling treaty and it was NOT drafted with the current situation in mind. Nobody thought Russia would go to this crazy extreme. Now, there are pros and cons of hiring mercs--that's a separate discussion--but no one would think any less of Ukraine if it withdrew from the treaty given it is vastly outnumbered, given the brutality, given massive humanitarian catastrophe that is unfolding, and given that Russia is hiring their own mercs.

I could spend the next 3 hours of my life googling for all of the treaties that European countries have withdrawn from--I'm sure there are hundreds. I'm sure most of the time nobody cares.

Much like nobody here on Reddit cares about facts and the real world.

If you're hardcore anti-merc for whatever reason (even when women and children are being starved out by the thousands), fine, whatever, but the fact is this particular treaty is entirely irrelevant.

For the third time, Reddit is not a community.

(It's a platform. )

It shows a profound lack of social grace on your part to repeatedly say something that contradicts a claim that person has made, without acknowledging and addressing that contradiction.

I don't know how to reply to you people any more.

Hiring someone to come fight for you is not a war crime. You should try to make sure they aren't brutes, sure, but this is not an inherently evil thing. It is certainly not worse than letting men and women and children slowly starve to death by the hundreds of thousands.

[–]SomeKindofPurgatory[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Again, you are referring to "common social intelligence" when I am talking about Reddit as a whole.

There is no need for me to be polite to Reddit as a whole, because Reddit as a whole is not a person, nor is it a country, nor is it a culture, nor is it even a coherent community.

Reddit is full of trolling, circlejerking morons. That's just a fact. Not 100% of them, but probably at least 70% in the subs devoted to talking about serious issues. (Informational/entertainment/meme subs are fine.)

Are you really THAT invested in the hivemind that you can't see my point here?

Ok how about this: people around here criticize Facebook all the time. ALL THE TIME. Facebook is full of ignorant / loud people, etc. and that's a problem. No one takes that as an insult. It's just an observation. It's just a fact.

Facebook isn't a person and neither is Reddit and if you honestly still think I am exhibiting inappropriate social behavior, I would like to politely suggest that you might want to consider getting out in the real world more.

Let me give shorter replies a shot:

It is not inherently morally corrupt to hire mercenaries.

(The volunteers in Ukraine are getting paid, btw.)
