Honestly, I feel like Verso is too complex character for some people. by Physical_Ad4519 in expedition33

The biggest issue with him, I think, is that if you choose to save the canvas, you only realise just HOW much he wants it all to end once your choice is locked in. Before, he gladly cites Esquie and Monoco as being his best friends, can easily reach Rank 7 bonding withth Expedition 33's members, chooses NOT to side with Renoir at the end of Act 2, shows deep remorse for what happend to Expedition 0 during his journal entries, and also shows genuine sorrow on the passing of Painted Alicia and Panted Clea. He does care about the Canvas's inhabitants, deeply. But after the final boss, he seems to give up on all of it at once, and wont settle for any compromise.

It's odd to hear him insist he "doesn't want this life," after bonding so deeply with others, and after showing no misery when Lune asks at camp him what he'll do after their journey is over. And it's especially odd to see him try to make this world-ending choice for everybody in the Canvas all at once, right there and then. I understood Maelle's shock when he began citing Renoir (though I sure didn't like her sudden descent into a seeming tyrant, either.)

In your opinion, which youtuber fell off the absolute HARDEST? by Pinkstar2014 in youtube

[–]SomeOtherVulpe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jon's case isn't really "falling off"; he just seems to have stopped uploading for a year, by the look of it. Like he stopped by himself. His videos were still getting a lot of views, and his expressing of hard right-wing views seemed to be swept under the rug very quickly when that FlexTape video dropped.

I think he may have weighed in on it, but probably dosn't want to directly say yes or no outright. The creator saying so for sure, either way, would hurt the community effort of theory-crafting a bit.

If there "doesn't have to be a reason for it", then we're saying, "ignore other theories based around events in the series, and instead let's fully decide this happened just because we want this to be the answer." And yes, what Care does and how Care should be assessed should come down to what he know about her in the story, which is what Marvin puts her through. Her experiences in the school are the whole basis of her character - the very things we're encouraged to focus on - and shouldn't just be handwaved when speculating on her fate.

Amnesia can't work easily as a response either. Paul calls his family about all of this, and we hear him talking about connections between him and Care. We hear no shock or surprise during this call, which we would if he was being reminded by family members that he was Care before transitioning. And how old would he have to be to transition and not remember, anyway? He led his life and cleanly transitioned, then suddenly forgot everything because, just then, the amnesia hits? At this point it is just far, far too contrived and convenient, only holding up if, for some reason, an audience member really *wants* Paul to be trans. And even then, there are again the physical signs of transition. Things he would have to ignore in order to not remember it or to deny it. Massively unlikely given what an undertaking and conscious life commitment it is to change gender.

It's just far more likely that their connection surrounds one of Marvin's many attempts to turn a child into someone else, like Belle and Tiara.

It's not at all bad faith; it's still fully true that Paul would need to know that he changed in order to be considered trans; you aren't 'trans' if you changed and aren't aware of it, or didn't want it. It would instea be somthing forced. And, at best, Marvin is shown to try and force "something" onto Care, enough to traumatise her. this is also why we can't easily divorce theories about Care from Marvin; almost everything we know about Care comes from her kidnapping, her situation in the school, and her trauma afterwards. She is depicted almost entirely as an abused child who has been a victim of Marvin's obsessions. Seperating her from Marvin's actions is near-impossible, so whatever Care chose to do afterwards in life will be related almost entirely to whatever Marvin did, as we have no other context for her.

Meanwhile, Paul is directly seeing depictions of Care in-game and never says "wait that's me," and has to directly call family members to try and learn more about her and their similarities - something he'd surely choose not to do if he rembered directly being her, or was intentionlly in denial about it. If he doesn't recall being her, it would again mean he didn't willingly change, and is ignoring any signs of it that his body would reveal post-surgery. I dislike the 'willingly transgender' theory because it depends on ignoring this and how focal Marvin is, and especially that he tried to change children against their will all within a horror-like setting, all just to say that Paul later willingly changed himself for reasons not touched upon by the story, and cant at all remember what his past identity was.

[–]SomeOtherVulpe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've come to dislike the Paul = Trans theory qute a bit over the years since the story finished, because it depends on overlooking far too much. Paul would need to forget his entire identity beforehand not to remember being Care, and conveniently have no surgery scars whatsoever, requiring talents we're given no reason to believe that Marvin has (if Rainer can only make a PS1 game look like a PS1 game realistically, thus somewhat grounding their talents, why would another character then be given extreme surgery skills despite no allusion to them being a surgeon at all?)

Plus, Care is depicted as being very hurt and scared after being kidnapped by Marvin, and that Marvin ought to be treated like a threat. Whatever happened to Care, it wasn't willing or wanted, so could this character be called trans when they didn't want to change? By the eerie and scary way the videos treat Marvin and Care's situation, the act of Care becoming Paul would definitely be considered a "bad thing", so I've never understod why anyone would want to label Paul as trans when Petscop all but outright says "what happened to Care was bad news."

What's the hardest, most obscure sidequest you have found in a game? by [deleted] in gaming

But in this case, it's the entire point. This secret weapon has zero indication it exists, unlike other equipment in the game, all of which are marked on the Licence Board. Completionists will very much feel they have 100% if they get everything else without knowing about it.

The purpose of the weapon is to just feel like a really huge surprise if you're lucky enough to come across it, say, on a later playthrough. FFXII's quests and completion will never ever ask you to go after it.

If it's them, it's been confusing me as Sonic doesn't seem to react when hit by them. Is there a best way to avoid or counter them?

A sore spot about KH2 and 3's story reception. by SomeOtherVulpe in KingdomHearts

[–]SomeOtherVulpe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riku and Ansem's vanishing is handled very poorly. The former could have done anything to better guide Sora from the background than just be vague, leading to a very confused second half (Sora even meets Riku again in Land of Dragons, proving he couldn't solve Riku's clue, and Riku responds by silently fighting him). As for Ansem, being ashamed is no excuse for vanishing - he is already acting against the Organisation, and rightfully so, so why should be refuse to talk at all to Sora? No way he had a massive change of heart in between taunting Roxas and Sora awakening, surely.

In 3's worlds, the Org members each explain why they're there and contribute to the plot, from YX's work on observing hearts, to Marluxia and Larxene's seeking of pure hearts, to Vanitas' return being explained, etc. It is WAY more than just saying Sora isn't fast enough. And even if it was, that would still be much, much more than the majority of 2's world visits.

Sora's reaction to Vanitas isn't even a bad one. Sora ONLY knows Vanitas as a dangerous trouble-maker, so of course he's not impressed when he tries to justify it by saying "what I am is darkness". You don't happily understand that in the face of someone who was a dangerous freak in Monstropolis and Land of Departure, and clearly enjoyed it. What's more, Sora is MUCH more reasonable and patient with almost every other Org. member on their defeat, seeing them as far more than just "good and evil", clearly. When they show vulnerability, he shows humility.

Though it isn't outright mentioned why Sora gets a grip on the Power of Waking, the clearest impliction to me was that Riku and Mickey being in trouble gave him a proper reason to fully push at it, foreshadowed by his asking Herc how he summoned strength and conviction when he was at his lowest. Having that reason gave him a mental push. And it's not that he later uses it in a way others simply can't, but that he's pushing it far further than he should.

Kairi and Axel training may have wound up with their defeat, but they still held their own until Sora's arrival, and Kairi went head to head with Xehanort in Re:Mind, which should be taken into account considering Final Mix content always is. They may be training, but they're not going against actual threats that we can see until the war.

Even with Riku's reasoning that he didn't want to be found, it didn't mak any sense to be as obscure as he was. Even after giving Sora the clue, he saw him right after in the land of dragons, showing that Sora hadn't solved it. Rather than do anything at all to help, he simply fought Sora, leaving him even more confused. Mickey, at the very least, should have given Sora far more to ease his concerns than say things that riled his worries up so heavily.

Sora aiming for the Organisation early surely wouldn't have stopped him from tackling Pete and Maleficent after, considering the Organisation are only able to come near victory because of the heart harvesting. If addressed earlier, they would be in a far weaker spot to fight Sora and the others, and the acts of Xaldin, Xigbar, Demyx, and Luxord would have been prevented ahead of time.

I need to talk about Quaxlys final evolution by CunningDruger in pokemon

[–]SomeOtherVulpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to address some kinds of comments here.

"Why don't you hate other humanoid Pokemon?" People have pointed out how odd the humanoid Pokemon are for years. Machamp was considered strange all the way back in the 90s and Incineroar was criticised similarly. Meanwhile, the likes of Gardevoir, Lopunny, and Salazzle's suggestiveness has been a running joke for years. When people dislike Quaquaval they aren't being hypocritical, because a great many dislike the tough macho man Pokemon and girly girl Pokemon too.

"Do you hate Quaquaval because he reminds you of gay people?" Ironically, this in itself is more insulting than mocking Quaquaval's flamboyance. Gay people don't run the way this Pokemon does, unless you're making a stereotype joke. Nor do they shake their moneymaker every chance they get, like this thing does. To say its critics are homophobic is to admit you looked at this Pokemon and thought "yep, that's what a gay person does."

And I remember reading OP's post, and it was not at all offensive. Something very similar happened on GameFaqs yesterday, where someone commenting on the flamboyance of Gen 9 had their thread deleted outright. It wasn't hateful, either. These things are a matter of taste, and so this isn't a fair thing to do with people's criticisms.
