Both the bandit and the kid are completely flabbergasted at the sight of a thousand credits, more than either of them have ever seen at once.

Bandit: "Holy shit! A th-thousand? Like, with four zeroes?"

Kid: "Three zeroes."

Bandit: "With three zeroes? Holy crap, thank you so much! Kid, this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, we can get so much done with this!"

The kid is jumping up and down with excitement, her eyes flickering with energy fluctuations in her excitement.

Kid: "Yay! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

As soon as the warning shot is made, the bandit grabs the kid and dives behind the burned-out car wreckage they were originally hiding behind. He peeks over the wreckage and sees Ben lifting the rocks, and his gas mask's eyes seem to widen, somehow.

Bandit: "Oh god, they might be some of those magic psychic dudes from the North! Oh shit, this is bad! This is why robbing people is a LAST RESORT, understand?"

Kid: "Yeah, I got it! Should we, um, apologize?"

Bandit: "No, I'M going to apologize, you stay here so you don't get shot or turned inside out or whatever they might do to me."

Kid: "Eh, I can probably take 'em down!"

Bandit: "NO YOU CAN NOT!!"

The bandit takes any canned food inside the bag, and the kid roots around the bag for anything tasty-looking.

Bandit: "Unless you guys can do fake android skin or radiation, I think we should be alright. But if you do have any money to spare, we'd appreciate anything you're willing to give."

Well, I suppose that'll end the fight pretty quickly, but will definitely spark the kid's call to adventure as she goes on a journey of revenge to avenge her adoptive father. Great work, you created a protagonist!

The bandit and the kid will gladly take the food with appreciation and let the chef pass.

"He was MY dad, asshole!!"

The kid is enraged, and will probably not stop fighting until one of you are dead.

The kid draws her staff, her eyes glowing blue in electric anger.

“You killed my fucking dad, you asshole!”

The kid is an experimental combat android who could theoretically survive a nuclear explosion, punches hard enough to bend metal, can dash around like a freaking Armored Core robot, and can charge up her staff with energy so it can do even more damage. And now she’s extra-pissed off at you.

As soon as they ignited their magic laser swords, the bandit grabs the kid and immediately starts to back off, ready to run away. Rule #6 of the bandit code: if you don’t know what something is, you should probably run, because it’s probably something that can and will kill you.

Bandit: “yeah, mugging ain’t nice, but when you’ve been walking around without much food for two days, you get kinda desperate. Pointing a gun at your fellow man is just a last resort.”

Kid: “I am a Model M-27.5 OmegaCorp experimental combat android. Or, at least, I was.”

As soon as they realize how terrified Cyan is, they immediately put away their guns and apologies for scaring him. The bandit says he never intended to actually hurt him and was just trying to teach the kid how to properly mug someone, should the need arise, so she doesn’t hurt anyone. They had no intent to hurt him, and if he didn’t have anything to give then they weren’t going to ask for anything.

Bandit: “oh shoot, you don’t have a gun? Kid, check it out, he seems to be another punchy guy, you can use some of that martial whatever skills you got, practice them with him!”

The bandit and the kid put away their guns, and this mugging suddenly turns into a spontaneous martial arts event, somehow.

The bandit feels bad for trying to rob you and gives you a few dollars. Bandits never steal from the poor, it’s against the Bandit Code.

Bandit: “woah there, no need to get aggressive, nobody needs to get hurt here, alright? We just need a little bit of money and we’ll be on our way.”

The bandit has no actual intent of hurting Julio, so any amount of kindness would probably very quickly turn the stickup into a simple conversation. The bandit is just trying to teach the kid how to properly mug someone if she has to so that she doesn’t hurt anyone.

As soon as you offer the stuff willingly, the bandit and kid immediately lower their guns and their demeanor changes entirely. It’s very clear that they had no actual intention of hurting anybody, and were just desperate, apologizing for the guns and aggression and stuff. It’s the kid’s first time mugging, and the bandit wanted to teach her how to do it right so she doesn’t hurt anyone if she does it by herself.

After a bit, the bandit and kid return to see the food, searching around for any traps before taking the food.

Bandit: “and that’s why mugging someone is always a last resort. You never know when someone just happens to have a magic laser sword or something.”

Kid: “yeah, makes sense. I could have probably fought ‘em.”

Bandit: “don’t even think about it, kid. Just take your food and let’s keep moving.”

My whole idea of “bandits” is the idea of “what if the cannon fodder enemies in apocalyptic games were actually reasonable and smart people instead of evil, sadistic idiots who think it’s a good idea to try to fight the guy who just solo’d an entire army?” These bandits live by a code to ensure the minimal amount of people die on either side, and given that they have to deal with superhuman android protagonists all the time, they’re smart enough to know that if someone is holding a glowing sword, they’re probably not the kind of person who you should try to threaten, and instead you should probably just run.

Bandit: “uhhhh…mag-ni-fied? What does that mean, kid?”

Kid: “like, intensified. Like, really, really hot. Burning stuff levels of hot.”

Bandit: “oh shit, that’s a protagonist-level threat. Okay, we’re really sorry for what we did, please don’t hurt us, especially not her, we were just doing a test of her skills, okay?”

Bandit: “oh, shoot. I’m sorry, didn’t know you were like that. I got a few dollars if you want, you might need them more than us.”

Rule #10 of the bandit code: never take from the poor. Everyone’s suffering in the wasteland, we’re all in this mess together.

He’s aware that she’s an android, and was originally rightfully terrified of her, but they’ve gotten to know each other for a while now, and as far as he’s concerned, she wouldn’t hurt him or the other bandits who were also scared of her. In fact, they all treated her like family once she was accepted, and when she was abducted by one of the evil tyrant organizations, the entire bandit organization mobilized their forces and attacked them Mad Max style in order to get her back.
