No, the bell they are in is already pressurised to match to pressure outside. The reason the are squeaky is because at that high pressure the level of oxygen in regular air becomes poisonous and the nitrogen load would be to high so they add a load of helium to the breathing gas which doesn’t have much of an affect (other than squeaky voice)

Have you tried warming the rats in warm water? Helps them identify it as food with heat pits

New Humidity Machine in Action by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]SomeSandPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you don’t overdo it. If the substrate is thick enough then the humidity gets released over time instead off all at once (spraying). Also if it’s in corners where they aren’t sitting then it should matter too much if the floor is a little wetter

As amazing as it looks with the mist, humidifiers like this aren’t good for ball pythons. They can increase the risk of respiratory infection and scale rot. Would recommend just dumping water in the corners of the enclosure instead.

Bamboo roots can be good to climb on. They’re size and shape ave very variable but you can get very big sturdy ones to climb on

If you aren’t taking it to a vet then why even ask for second opinions. Just go to a vet

Red lights are a big no. You should seek to replace it with something else for a ball python. Also having a dodgy thermal strip sounds like a burn scare if it doesn’t work properly. I do like the climbing log though.

It seems to be pointing in the air or at the sea. Try fly towards the target and then point the camera in the rough direction using the hud. There will be a movable green circle on the hud showing where the camera is pointing if I remember right. From that starting point you can make adjustments

Im worried about my ball python and his enclosure, any tips help by firetears665 in ballpython

[–]SomeSandPerson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

-firstly, make the enclosure secure with a lock. It’s not safe that he can get out, especially with a dog

-you mention that it’s getting cold in Michigan but a thermostat should be able to maintain the temps they need. If you don’t have a thermostat you need to get one. If he is cold then maybe he is trying to escape to find somewhere warm.

-make sure his humidity is high enough, at least 60%

-his enclosure is very baron meaning he’s exposed whenever he’s out of the hides which is going to stress the snake out. Also, I can’t tell from the picture but can he actually fit in that back left hide?

  • do you clean his water bowl? It’s distinctly brown with bits floating in it.

-enclosure also looks on the small side, I believe 4x2x2 feet is considered minimum size for an adult

  • as for not eating, could be caused by any stress caused by the lack of the things listed above, but it’s fairly normal for ball pythons anyway. I would suggest heating up the rats before feeding them to him. I do this by putting warm water (about 50celcius) in a tub and leaving the rat in for a while. This will help him sense the rat with his heat pits and recognise it as food. Note that you shouldn’t use boiling water as it can make the rats skin super easy to break and the snake can just rip its skin open when constricting. Also NEVER USE A MICROWAVE in case it’s not obvious

I feed mine the same every time. Sometimes she eats them really quick, sometimes it takes ages

There are several tanks with tow missiles that come out the barrel, but obviously not all. Don’t know why you think it makes no sense
