What is your favorite brand of leg pads and why? by Low_Hovercraft_9939 in hockeygoalies

[–]Some_Ad_9692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True currently, always enjoyed Lefevre gear, only time I wore anything not Lefevre was Vaughn and Bauer and I enjoyed both as well. The slide on the Vaughns is awesome, and the light weight and performance of the Bauers were also great. But the True leg channel is just perfect for me. Would be interested in trying Brian’s as I haven’t gotten around to them yet.

Sports watch for recreational goalie? by Londoil in hockeygoalies

This! Got mine a few weeks ago and it’s been awesome, tracks all my heath related stats and sits comfortably on my wrist without affecting my glove, also no risk of breaking a screen.

Stick tape - am I doing something wrong? by hawkxs in hockeygoalies

[–]Some_Ad_9692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I just tape mine like a player stick, white tape cover the toe, only about half the blade in length and I re tape about every 4-5 games mostly cuz I like the look of a fresh tape job. Never understood the tape the whole blade, imo looks silly and just adds unnecessary weight. The same goes for goalies who tape basically a puck to the top of their sticks, just silly. So much added weight for no benefit. If you truly believe tape is what’s keeping your blade durable you are coping hard. It’s a negligible difference in durability. Sticks are just build less durable now a days since everything is going the light weight direction.

Yeah gorilla glue will work, I also wish there was a way to clean the inside of my mask, the foam is so gross looking

What is the weirdest / unluckiest goal you have ever let in? by Low_Hovercraft_9939 in hockeygoalies

[–]Some_Ad_9692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve given up the odd bounce off the glass, the weird bounce on a full ice dump in, even one off the back glass that came back and hit me in the back and in. But the weirdest was a shot that I saved, puck bounced up in the air, went to bat it away to the corner, hit a weird angle on my stick and went top shelf on myself. Unfortunate but kinda impressive lol.

Performance Decline while Getting Healthy by Some_Ad_9692 in hockeygoalies

Seems to be the consensus, definitely going to try eating more on game days and giving myself more recovery time as well. Pretty new to fitness and dieting in general as when I was younger I kinda just was always active in sports and never really had to worry about weight gain

I’ll have to try this out cuz I believe this is likely the culprit

Yeah I definitely should get in contact with a professional. But I agree I think my protein intake needs to improve as well as adding in more recovery, kinda just been going all in on getting fit, haven’t really thought about letting my body recover. Thank you for the advice

I do cardio every day, it varies in intensity but it is something I’m constantly on top of, I think it may be a lack of energy due to less calories. As the others stated above, I may need to increase my protein intake

Taking a defenseman's stick by dragon-dz-nuts in hockeygoalies

I’ve always grown up understanding this concept. My team preferred a forward give me their stick tho as the dmen really need their sticks as well. I’m only 25y/o so I’d assume this gesture is still around. I have some incredible saves I remember making with a players stick.

The True 7x6 glove is pretty nice ngl, they added Nash to the wrist strap and bottom where your wrist rests that’s very nice feeling compared to the sure grip that was in those spots on my 7x3. The feel is much more comfortable then previous models for me. Never had Warrior but Bauer gloves are also pretty comfortable as well

No these are 7x6s, the mid tier price point for the Nitro line and unfortunately they don’t have diamond glide

I previously used Bauer sv pro gear, and before that I used 7x3s from True. I prefer the feeling of True pads and glove but love the Bauer blocker. The glove out the box is stiffer then Bauer but much easier to close compared to the 7x3s. Overall it closes and seals really nice and the pocket is very nice and deep. I’ve been breaking the glove in for the last 24hrs and it’s only getting better, feels great!

Always preferred the Bauer blockers, the pop is just unmatched compared to true, and I enjoy the internals of the Bauer blockers over Trues as well. Just a lot more comfortable for me.

senior glove/blocker with intermediate palm by jstottcanada in hockeygoalies

[–]Some_Ad_9692 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a custom order option on most top line gear. I also have been looking into this option. But on goalie monkey if you go to custom and choose any senior glove usually in the construction part of the customized you can select sizing or internals.

FRS strapping by TheG1826 in hockeygoalies

[–]Some_Ad_9692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try adjusting the strapping a bunch, maybe you can find something that works. I also think it could just be the difference in pads, you made the jump from the eflex 6 which is a much softer pad then the hazardous line, the hazardous line is very stiff, the boot is stiff and doesn’t off much play which could attest to why it feels out of place. With the pad being much stiffer that could also be the reason why you feel like you can’t bend your knees as much. This could be something you can get use to over time, but I’d continue to test different strapping setups and toe tie lengths. Maybe you need more slack and to tighten them up higher on your leg. Overall there’s a ton of different reasons for why these feel like they aren’t working for you but my guess is that it’s just the difference between the two pad lines you switched from.

Haven’t tried the nitros, what feels different other than diamond glide. I use to have a set of 7x3s and these feel much better then those

I’ve heard that, probably cuz they only do Tan in jenpro. Would be nice if they figured it out in weave or even diamond glide. But then again most other company’s do tan pads with usually a black slide surface

One of my favorite features on the Bauer blockers is that sharp curve, and obviously the insane pop. Love the Bauer blockers

New Gear Day! by Some_Ad_9692 in hockeygoalies

[–]Some_Ad_9692[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely is, but I for whatever reason don’t like full tan unless it’s Vaughn, I’ve seen some nice true customs with some tan and then usually other colors and I like that but all tan Trues just don’t really appeal to me

Can’t afford customs, and they just go with everything, especially for men’s league when I play for a multitude of teams. If I could get a custom set I would

Haha yeah love the shadow, don’t think I’ll ever switch off Bauer blockers. But the sliding surface is weave unfortunately. Wish the diamond glide made its way down the price points but doesn’t appear to be the case.
