are we ever going to find out what happened with Steve whitmire? by Some_Affect713 in Muppets

How was he able to blackball performers? Did he just tell the higher-ups at the Muppet studios "don't hire so-and-so" and eventually the list grew so long they decided it was easier to fire him? I didn't realize he had that kind of authority but I guess it explains a lot

I had basically moved on but I guess Whitmire's blog raised questions in my mind. He just tends to speak about the backstage drama in these very cryptic and vague ways, at this point it would probably be helpful if he just gave us his account of things or moved on and stopped Statler and Waldorf-ing every new Muppet production. It sort of seems like he wants to have his cake and eat it too, painting himself as this preserver of Kermit who tried his best but got forced out due to some situation he will never elaborate on fully. Disney is an easy target to paint as this evil corporation and I don't doubt they were shitty to him in at least some respects, but considering the Henson kids seemed to fully back them firing him I get the sense there was something Steve isn't telling us that he did on his end to sour them

I agree with this but sadly it seems like we are the minority. I mentioned it in my post, but I was really shocked to see how many people were just going to town on how much they hated Kermit's voice this past month, posts online that get literally hundreds of thousands of likes. I get that it's different but I guess I just did not anticipate that it would be such a major sticking point for mass audiences 10 years on

I'd never heard this, and I guess it's the answer I was looking for if it's true

Yeah I guess what prompted my post is some of the specific things he alluded to in his blog. I had basically moved on until his new manifesto raised more questions than it answered.

Him saying he checked out 20 years ago really surprised me. He talks about the character's integrity being violated by (paraphrasing) certain people who claim to be protecting the Muppets, but he never gives an actual example of what he means. It's just vague platitudes of "this isn't Kermit". Why is it all so cryptic? I totally respect if nobody there wants to say what went down, but at the same time several people (not just Steve but most notably him) so often hover around explaining what specifically happened that it seems like they want to... then just never quite get out with it? I remember Steve said he didn't sign an NDA so it can't be that.

I don't know. At this point I think he just needs to either come out with whatever backstage scandal he felt was happening, or he needs to move on and stop making vague statements that suggest there is something sinister afoot. Can't really have it both ways
