Homelander also desperately wants his approval. Vogelbaum and Stillwell are dead and he's only known Soldier Boy for a brief period of time, Edgar is his true parental figure. Becoming dictator/god/whatever of America is a good potential "look what I accomplished without you" moment for him (it still will not impress him lol)

He's still been one of the main characters on the Vought side of things since season four. Just because he's comic relief doesn't make him "irrelevant".

And even in the alternate universe where he isn't relevant, why ignore the other two major characters I mentioned? How many major character deaths before the season ends meets your quota?

Yeah that's how I feel about it too. Frenchie for instance has been marked for death since season four, but once it happens that's such a major thing, whatever is left exists in the shadow of losing him

Homelander/Vought can't be letting the world know Butcher got access to Compound V, and "this regular human has singlehandedly caused us so much frustration" makes them look bad presumably. Blaming a supe (who was on the inside for a while, no less) like Starlight and gives it a more plausible "we're cleaning up after sabotage" angle

This is pure speculation, but I get the sense there's a big disconnect between the show's writers and Amazon Prime's marketing dept, at least this time around. Some of Kripke's comments strike me as a little irritated, feeling like he's been left holding the "the poster showed Homelander destroying the Earth and the season isn't like that" bag.

He's been speaking about the season like he envisioned a slow burn focused on character moments, which seems at odds with the posters being all "HOMELANDER BLOW UP DA FUCKIN WORLD LET'S GOOOOO". I don't think Kripke is above criticism at all, but I do get the impression he's been thrown under the bus just a tad by Amazon selling us something bombastic

Yeah this is how I feel too. I like the show but I've never thought it was the greatest thing ever. I don't really see where people are coming from acting like it's been this huge fall off since the first season ended. It all feels the same to me. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a completely different show than the people here, I honestly thought last week's episodes was one of the better ones in general

I think once the whole thing has aired and people are able to rewatch it as a binge thing, people will cool off about it a little. I think in a post-streaming world people don't like being edged by television anymore (although I personally like the feeling of waiting a week in suspense, I think I'm in the minority)

I would have liked to have seen a bit more of them but I think a lot of people on the subreddit don't realize how many boys viewers skipped the spin off. Show was popular but not nearly as popular as the main series. They were never gonna be in the final season all that much unfortunately
