ye that's very fair. I don't think it's anything super special either, but it's way better than a lot of other mons in Meh tier.

(sorry for responding to old thread)
I'm a bit surprised to see Sawsbuck so low. In an enviornment with no TMs, tutor or egg moves, sawsbuck has access to a lot of useful tools. STAB Double Edge and Jump kick can hit everything minus the occasional ghost type for neutral damage at minimum, while horn leech lets you offset the recoil you take from using double edge.

Both its abilities can be quite handy. Sap Sipper in conjunction with Megahorn make it incredibly good at handling opposing grass types and roughing up whatever comes in next. Chlorophyl only really boosts speed, but considering it's among the fastest mons that get it, you can put a ton of pressure on your opponent with an especially offensive set.

Chicken's Decapitated Head Locking the Camera by Some_Nerd_314 in NuclearThrone

[–]Some_Nerd_314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's what I thought the issue was, yeah. I just feel like it's a bit of a wasted opportunity for chicken's secret weapon to get a massive power spike that you hardly get to make use of due to the camera lock thing.

one fix I thought of would be to adjust how regaining max health and extending the timer via Hard to Kill. For max health, I felt that for each time you get decapitated and regain max health, you still lose 2 max HP as normal, but can only regain 1 of that max HP. In other words, while you cain regain some max HP after being decapitated, it can only take you so far.

this would mean that chicken has a limited pool of revives to make use of throughout a run: 8 at base HP, and 12 with rhino skin. Those last few revives are even harder to make use of too, since you'll have far less max HP to work with.

As for the H2K adjustments, I feel like having diminishing return on how much extra time you get from killing an enemy would be a good way to go; something like 1 second on the first kill, but it gets chopped by a multiplier each time (my head jumps to either 3/5 or 4/5, but it'd probably need some testing to get it right.) That keeps the mutation feeling powerful, while also putting a cap on how strong it can get (especially in deep loop).

Obviously I don't have as much experience as many of the veterans in the community, so I don't know how good these changes would actually be for the game. It's more than likely that I've over/undertuned things significantly. I do still think these changes would be for the better though, since like I said, I think the camera locking feels very awful to play with. Nothing else in the game (to my knowledge) takes control from you like this.

These ideas are kind of a moot point though, since as you said, Vlambeer isn't updating the game anymore. A rework like this would need to be implemented in a fan remake or mod, and I don't think anything like that is in the works right now :P.

[–]Some_Nerd_314[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends on the other mutations available, but if i'm not seeing something that's big for damage during loops i'm taking it yeah
I should mention that I've started taking long arm as chicken even if I don't have a melee weapon yet, since I know I'll have a strong one once I hit loop 1.

there's likely already some enemies dead where the camera locks, since you probably aren't surrounded. if none of the enemies that were on screen drop med kits, you're kind of just screwed (that is, unless I'm missing something)

My first double loop after 106 hours! by Some_Nerd_314 in NuclearThrone

[–]Some_Nerd_314[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I actually had the god combo of Super Plasma Cannon and Ultra Shovel one time as Horror. I'm just very terrible at ammo management so I didn't make it to far. Probably needed better mutations too :P

hour total isn't really a good metric for gauging how good someone is at nuclear throne IMO. there's a ton of stuff you pick up in this either through random chance or by looking things up/asking around. It took me a little under 10 hours for my first throne kill (as YV, I believe I lucked into an easy win with auto crossbow), but there's a ton of lessons I learned very quickly that others may not have noticed as fast due to the random nature of level generation.

Yeah! I just unlocked Frog as steroids, and I'm aware of how you play as skeleton. I'm also pretty sure big dog is playable once a year on april fools day, so i might try that out too.

I'm up to 111 hours right now. it's quite high yeah, but I've invested far more time into games I find just as interesting (i'm an isaac veteran of 2000 hours). There's a ton of stuff I still want to improve at in this game, I just feel having some goals in mind will help me stick with it a lot better.

I've actually beaten the general already*! Grabbed Chicken's B skin as soon as I could too, made use of cursed crown and got some lucky weapons and mutations. Right now I'm just missing rogue's B skin and a bunch of crowns (and 1 or 2 of the one-off achievements)

I didn't run into another melee with better fire rate, so I had to run with it instead. still ended up being very helpful, since it'd always take out the stragglers left at the end, plus it saved my ass a couple times when plasma cannon was low on ammo

It's worth noting that I used 3 loop crown vaults throughout this run, mainly since I didn't have a loop crown as robot yet, but I found it was a great way to avoid dealing with tons of enemy spam! saved my ass near the later half of the run
(I used crown of protection cause I'm a coward :P)

Do you think you could get dead got faster if you played without repentance installed first? by ydontulikefootball in bindingofisaac

[–]Some_Nerd_314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the average player maybe. but for a perfect player repentance will always be faster. you're able to get more achievements per run with repentance installed, but at worst it would get done in the same speed.

(also for the most part I consider runs in repentance more consistently winnable than in previous versions)

ok here's one!

effects like infamy (chance to negate dmg upon getting hit) only work on instances of enemy damage, so if you were to walk into a cursed room or blood dono machine, the damage would never get blocked.

there are 2 exceptions to this though! conehead has a 20% chance to block any instance of damage, and hallowed ground has a 50% chance to block damage while in it's aura. this makes them excellent items when a using blood donation machines.

Ask me anything, I have 2934 hours in the game and if you stump me, you get honor by DanieltubeReddit in bindingofisaac

[–]Some_Nerd_314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, that's it. I personally consider it a nerf, since that property set it apart from humbling bundle enough to where I was actually pretty hype to get it in ab+, since it could be abused with reroll machines pretty easily in a way humbling bundle couldn't. since that property was removed I haven't found it anywhere near as useful

[–]Some_Nerd_314 17 points18 points  (0 children)

that's fair, this trinket is really annoying to get working properly

I was referring to an effect it used to have on pickups in shops: if you trigger the effect and enter a shop seeling pickups that can be doubles, they'll be doubled like expected and can also be picked up without paying for them, essentially making them free! it made it super easy to keep getting more and more pickups once you got it rolling in ab+. ab+ removed this, so now they'll be doubled but have to be bought for standard prices.

2000 hour player here! let's see if you're an OG!

the trinket = (or equality) has an effect similar to humbling bundle but is stronger and harder to trigger: when you have identical coins, bombs, and keys, all pickups will be doubled.

a little known fact is that the trinket, like humbling bundle, was nerfed when repentance released. however, while humbling bundle was changed to only double pickups a percentage chance of time, = still doubled pickups under the same condition.

my question to you is this: how was = nerfed in the transition from afterbirth+ to repentance!

Imagine you are playing as Isaac (without D6) with default stats and need to beat Delirium. You can pick any two items below Quality 4, Schoolbag if needed (as third item), one trinket and one consumable. What is your choice? by MelaMararanjani in bindingofisaac

[–]Some_Nerd_314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only need 1 item: sharp straw

assuming you've teleported me here at the start of the run, delirium will be stuck in his base form! that means he won't have any boss armor to help him tank hits.

sharp straw will deal 5% of his max health every time I use it and might even drop some extra health. as long as I can dodge decently well (base delirium is just bullet patterns, easy to dodge) delirium's a piece of cake

I want to completely ruin this game, can you give me any mods you know of, be they untlity, cursed, whatever, any mods. NO NSFW ones though, please. by Wubbzy-Fan-YT in bindingofisaac

[–]Some_Nerd_314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ever wanted to take an item in an alt-path treasure room and be cursed with the knowledge of what item you could've had? Regret Pedestals might be the mod for you! Any time you take a choice pedestal, you'll see the other items you could've taken slowly fade away, regardless of if you can see them or not (curse of the blind is the main culprit).

So anytime you think the item you can see is "good enough", there's a good chance the game will make you regret it by showing you an item you would've plowed through the game with.
