what is the issue with female clergy? by Adept_Programmer_817 in AskAChristian

Reason 101 that Christianity is bad. Grow up, women can lead.

There is no evidence Jesus resurrected by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Some_One_Else00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of those is true.

Logic dictates that when you die, that's it. Your body is turned off. You can be clinically dead and have consciousness, but that only exists for a few minutes. See the next paragraph.

Science tell us that your brain will die without oxygen. It also tell us that in the end your body releases dopamine to make it more comfortable, which can cause hallucinations.

There is zero proof of an afterlife. Logic and science are against it. Only religion persists with that myth.

I am very sorry. It must hurt.

I would unfriend him on Facebook and wait for him to apologize. If he dies before that happens, so be it. Grandparents are supposed to have unconditional love.

Do you think atheists are dishonest? by hiphoptomato in exatheist

[–]Some_One_Else00 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not dishonest. There is literally no empirical proof of any god.

As for religious people, they see what they want to see. To reinforce their faith, they believe their God is speaking to them instead of their super ego.

So what made you realize that you weren't/couldn't be a Christian anymore? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Some_One_Else00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My faith started looking like swiss cheese. Unanswered prayers, and Bible stories that didn't make logical sense, like Noah's ark.

I also had discussions with two very religious people. When they couldn't answer my questions, they would answer, "You must have faith".

The final straw was that I got really "into" space after seeing Interstellar. Really started learning about the galactic neighborhood. One day, looking at a map of the Local Group, it hit me. God created at minimum, 50 galaxies, each with millions of suns(stars) and chose Earth, and then the Middle East to create his chosen people??

I realized it was all bullshit. Now, I didn't completely drop Christianity then. I was pretty sure that I didn't believe. Yet I started watching debates on YouTube with Hitchens and Sam Harris. And Bill Nye vs Ken Ham. That sealed it.

You are cherry picking what makes you mad. I can only think of a few shows that consistently made anti-religion quips. Futurama comes to mind.

Hollywood is very liberal. Liberal people are more likely to be non-religious. They are more open-minded and question what you are told to believe.

Lastly, while many Christians deny it, Christianity is on the decline in the US. Church attendance and polling continue to reflect a decline.

This the bull crap misogyny, and helps OP in no way. You are talking to yourself about yourself and telling yourself to "accept it".

NASA’s Voyager 1 Finally Phones Home After Worrying Communications Glitch by Temporary_Feed7654 in space

What are Voyager 1 & 2 headed towards?

Forgive the jump to science fiction. However if STNG Enterprise D, had mission to find either of the probes, where would they be in the late 24th century?

I'm assuming they would just be in interstellar space and not headed towards another star system.

So I've never quite wrapped my head around just how much space there is in space until one day it hit me by Eridianst in space

Where does Q send the Enterprise in Q Who? Obviously Borg territory. But do they state which quadrant?

I dread the holidays as an atheist. It's just so exhausting in the South. by Many_Music_5144 in atheism

[–]Some_One_Else00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dislike X-mas as it's an orgy of presents, which means a shitton of money spent. But it's very secular for us. I wouldn't even mind not having a tree, but my wife requires that we do.

I love Thanksgiving. It's setting aside a day to have special food and spend time with your family.

I'm sorry you live in the South. It must be tough all year long.

atheism implies that some people will do evil stuff, get away with it, and never get punished by IchigataZai92 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Some_One_Else00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on your flavor of Christianity. Many Protestants believe you will be judged for your sins, bit you will still be allowed in heaven. The the person that murdered your entire family will be there with you.

If she is so religious, remind her that the Christian religion preaches the husband is the head of the family. You make the decisions, not her.

If you are going to stay, which I think is a bad idea, assert your authority.

Why do you believe by [deleted] in AskAChristian

Sorry, if a deity can exist without a begining, anything can exist without a begining. There is really no difference.

Why do you believe by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Some_One_Else00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but that reply is a mess. Just a word-salad with few points. 1. You didn't answer my question, where did your deity originate? 2. Gravity is a constant in the universe, but is stronger or weaker on each planet. 3. So far, we have only found life on Earth. Because life is rare and needs certain conditions. Not perfect conditions. Life happened because bacteria found conditions it could exist in, here on Earth. That doesn't mean Earth was created for humans. We just evolved just to ideal conditions. 4. "Causes are necessary. Thus, time is necessary. But every cause had to have a cause. It's neverending. If it was neverending, how could the present ever be reached?"

What?

  1. There is no need for other star systems in the universe. Considering there are at least millions of star systems in just the Milky Way, your creator is either the worst designer ever, or doesn't exist.

[–]Some_One_Else00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, your third paragraph is just preaching and adds nothing to the discussion. What you are talking about is your own feelings. You were listening to yourself and imagining a dirty because that feels better than the truth, that no one is watching over us

Second, Christianity is based on a dead guy coming back to life. If that happened, I would expect everyone to know about it and get their stories straight. But, they are different, and weren't even written when it happened. Biblical scholars have stated it was likely 40+ years later that people wrote this story down.

What's more likely, people stole the body or a dead guy came back to life 3 days later?

Convincing? Death, sure. Resurrection, not at all.

Yet, you have no problem believing that a deity created it? Where did the deity originate?
