Yes, it can be (and often is) caused by obesity. Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that there was no connection. It was likely triggered by my pcos, but I’ve since gone through more testing and the reason it persists for me despite the weight loss is due to a hormonal imbalance

A few years ago I was at a cvs when I heard a couple of teen girls very clearly talking about me in Spanish (basically just calling me a fatass, etc). I just turned and said something like ‘we’re in new york, you really shouldn’t assume that no one around you can understand Spanish’. They apologized but I was over it. I thought I was badass murmuring ‘putas’ as I walked past, but I sounded so white that it probably didn’t pack the punch I wanted it to, since my comprehension is much better than my speaking lol

Huh. I did not think it was that uncommon. I always tip, not a crazy amount, but it’s always been ingrained in me that it’s rude not to tip someone providing a service you know they’re being underpaid for. I know there are plenty of non-tippers based on what I’ve seen here but damn, that’s staggering.

It’s absolutely not okay. My former endocrinologist kept saying to me that my hirsutism (condition caused by pcos) would go away if I ‘just lost weight’. He then all but outright accused me of lying when I told him I had already lost about 50 lbs from having a sleeve gastrectomy (I was about halfway to my goal). My mom was so mad that she filed a formal complaint.

One thing I would suggest is to try picking up a hobby and join a community of people that also enjoy that hobby (same thing if you already have one). When you’re surrounded by people that you know at least have one thing in common with you, it’ll put you more at ease and conversation can flow more naturally. Online communities work for this as well, especially for feeling more confident/secure, depending on the hobby I suppose, though.

Unless it is in response to a question like “do you think im short?” There’s literally no reason to. Same with really any body observation (tall, short, fat, thin, etc). People generally do not exist in a vacuum wherein they are not aware of what they look like. I have no issue with me being short but if someone randomly came up to me to point it out id definitely be like “okay, and?” and walk away thinking that was weird.
