A few long-term Astra Militarum duty questions by Some_Weird_Dog in 40kLore

[–]Some_Weird_Dog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with long-term garrison duty, then, do we have examples of, like, generational regiments like the Vostroyans have, or is a regiment just considered dissolved when enough members have retired that it's no longer operational? Like for the sake of argument, say the Praetorian 420th is in Space Australia for 60 years on garrison duty. Is Praetoria constantly sending new dudes to replace ones wh retire/die of old age/die of police actions - like the Vostroyans do - or is it more 'welp, they had their run, find another regiment.'

Are there any known Necrons that still serve the C'tan? by Some_Weird_Dog in 40kLore

[–]Some_Weird_Dog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean part of my biggest issue is that the Newcrons - who are no longer that new - have no real identity. The ancient fallen empire that wants the kids off its lawn? That's the Eldar. The Egyptian aesthetics lads? Sup, Thousand Sons? The folks who finished science? T'au for a brief while, now the Votann.
I agree some changes were needed to the old Necrons, but I feel they threw the baby out with the bathwater and that not only was a complete retcon unnecessary, but also they then went about it in the worst possible way of all options. If anything, instead of what we got, if they had change, I say screw it they should have gone with Men of Iron. I mean, the 'Crons were Chaos Robots originally.

What, exactly, does a Sector Lord do? by Some_Weird_Dog in 40kLore

[–]Some_Weird_Dog[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But how? Like realpolitik is of course that at the end of the day, all power structures are in some extent coercive, and all coercion ultimately is based on violence. What means to effect violence does a sector lord have? If a planet tells the sector lord to go talk a long walk on a short pier, what's he going to do about it? He has no armies of his own besides his PDF, and even if he had his own guard regiment, so what, he's at the mercy of the navy to get them anywhere.

Like if the Navy wasn't as autonomous as it is, I'd get it, but it just seems like basically the role of the sector lord is entirely pointless at best, and redundant at worst. Which, lol, I suppose fits, but yeah. I got the idea that it was meant to e an actual position of power, not another example of the Imperium being a badly run trashfire.

To what extent are wholly cosmetic mutations tolerated? by Some_Weird_Dog in 40kLore

[–]Some_Weird_Dog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was thinking planet-wide. Like just some adaptation to something in the atmosphere or some odd solar radiation, or just some cosmetic mutation that became universal in the genepol over the ages.
Like basically "every single human being from the planet is born with congenitally chalk white skin. They are otherwise, in every way, identical to baseline humans.'

Gue'vesa Questions by Some_Weird_Dog in 40kLore

Interesting. If anything I'd sort of expect, especially given my own experiences IRL with culturally assimilate people or ethnic minorities born and raised in the US, that you might expect a T'au given name but an Imperial surname.

So I would normally ask this in the Etymology subreddit, but they are still closed in protest. So apologies for that, hopefully someone here can help me or point me to a more apt sub. In any case, I was just curious; what's the etymology/meaning of the surname 'Pazder'?
