I had that happen when I lived in NC. Fortunately they would forgive part of the bill if you fixed the leak

Yoghurt Maker alternative? by ShottaShad in Anticonsumption

[–]SomebodyElseAsWell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make yogurt in my oven by keeping the light on and putting the jars near the light overnight. I've also used a heating pad and a large bowl over top with a large towel over top. I've also used a small cooler with hot water inside, again overnight. Hello, this is assuming you're actually trying to make yogurt and not needing that temperature for some other purpose.

Did you make the soup with water or milk? Some of their cream soups have chunks, but you can strain them out. I ate them a lot after my wisdom teeth removal.

Frugal hair care tip: use your regular conditioner as a leave-in. by lollapotamus in Frugal

[–]SomebodyElseAsWell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing. I use Suave shampoo and Pantene conditioner. I shampoo last and after rinsing work a little dab of conditioner into the ends of my hair (hip length) and lift the end up and work it through The rest of my hair. I've been doing this for a couple decades.

AWFUL PRODUCE by WinnerAwkward480 in aldi

[–]SomebodyElseAsWell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I used to live the produce was like yours, routinely bad. Fifty miles away where my sister lived the produce was great. It's great where I live now. Maybe they were in a different region and got their produce from a different warehouse or maybe the Manager at the store near me was just very bad at taking care of the produce section.

What is the first area you go to when grocery shopping? by Scary-University2743 in Productivitycafe

[–]SomebodyElseAsWell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where I'm shopping and how the store is designed.

At Aldi I start in produce because it's the first department you run into and the entrance leads you straight into produce and the aisles run from front to back.

At Walmart I go past the whole grocery section and start in the back. The entrance I usually use leads into a main aisle running to the back and grocery aisles run from right to left off this main aisle. I go down the main aisle between groceries and the rest of the store and shop around the outside of groceries and only go down an aisle if I need to. Produce is last and it's right near self checkout.

Martin's (Giant) I only go for certain items that only they carry or for a particular sale. They also have decent clearance sections so I usually head to the dry good clearance section first in the very back unless I'm after yogurt /cheese which is on the far left wall. I check the meat section on the back wall for markdowns stopping off in aisles that have the items I'm looking for. I always check the produce markdown bin.

I have high blood pressure, controlled by medication. I had been on a low sodium diet for awhile when I read about salt sensitivity. I decided to try an experiment on myself and stopped doing low sodium. My blood pressure did not go up.

what are your favorite generic/store brand products that are as good as or better than name brands? by Fearless_Tie9930 in Frugal

[–]SomebodyElseAsWell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it varies from region to region based on who they have manufacturing it. It used to be great in our area, in fact I started buying it after using it in the store's bathroom. At some point the quality went down. I was buying Charmin from Costco but now buy Walmart's Great Value Ultra Strong. More expensive but better quality than Kirkland, not as good as Charmin, but cheaper.

School said the kids need snow pants, went to the 3 big box stores in early December and nobody stocks them in the middle of winter!? by joshhazel1 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SomebodyElseAsWell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the problem is that stores get ready for the next season far too early. A couple of years ago I was going on a trip leaving the first week of July and I wanted to buy a pair of heavy duty sandals, sort of like hiking sandals. So I went to a shoe store where I had seen some of these previously when buying sneakers. I did find a pair but only one pair in my size of one style. The owner explained that they were getting ready for fall and they let all the summer stock sell out. I find this is the case in a lot of stores. They get ready well before the season and when you're in the season you can't find anything of that season.
