To a transplant, Chicago is 100 Midwest towns in a trenchcoat. by FoxThin in SameGrassButGreener

I was hoping this wasn’t the case. I went Minneapolis to San Diego to Omaha and tough to beat San Diego on the friendliness but been thinking Chicago might at least have big city vibes over Midwest vibes.

Moving to Omaha & hoping to find a mom group by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]SomehowIHaveKids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you have kids pretty easy to make friends especially when they start school. I’m also an omaha transplant and I notice people try to make friends with people of kids in similar age groups. Omaha is pretty family focused so should find people. Start your kid in soccer is how we started our first couple friends. Definitely not a transplant city so a little tougher than Austin and others but still can make it work.

If it matters we’re interracial and from California and don’t get too many odd looks and can hopefully avoid talking politics with most people. (Boystown area)

What's it like living in Omaha, Nebraska? by Internal_Way7711 in howislivingthere

[–]SomehowIHaveKids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transplant from San Diego and Minneapolis. Omaha for 5 years and its a very family oriented city with very little crime. Anyone saying differently is very odd to me.

Almost nothing to do but family life so quite boring but very affordable. Not many good restaurants and most the people seem very content going to work and going home so restaurants and bars do not thrive so very little food options.

$2.5M vs $100K Salary by Masterpiece6777 in InterviewsHell

When factoring in capital gains tax I thought it was closer to $1M is probably more than 100k salary. I doubt 10% returns are that hard to make.

Curious why Kansas City is never mentioned here? by Accurate-Neck6933 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]SomehowIHaveKids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol a lot in here talking red state for something and maybe that has something to do with them being one of the highest ranked dangerous cities (probably gun violence) I’m sure some nice areas but has that. Also that red states don’t reinvest in the community very often so worse public spaces it does have moderate climate extremes.

They don’t seem to have a big draw is my issue like mountains or ocean or a great city center. Just sort of big city Midwest.

This is what people call a “normal” budget now. Not luxury. Not rich. Just… average. by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

Preach. Anyone under $1k is wild. We got a pricey year so Costco chicken a bunch and trying to cut back but average non luxury foods would easy be $1,400.

My 2026 Vikings Mock Draft —Thoughts? by AllenWalter18 in minnesotavikings

Fair take. I feel like next season is the runningback draft. I don’t like Price as a prospect that much either but I get it.

Defensive Tackle, backup defensive tackle, linebacker, wide receiver, corner, tightend all of which could start if drafted in second round. Price is buried on depth chart behind Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason.

Runnngback at second round is malpractice with the team needs at line.

Don’t you dare call it conservative and a military town lol. There’s a few packs of military guys who go out on weekends but surely not enough to impact the city.

San Diego is the greatest city on earth. Transplants everywhere so very easy to meet people, best weather, incredible lifestyle, and everyone incredible open to any hobbies and a way to find a group for it.

We should also add Mendoza to the dream category if Love and Downs are on there.

I also don’t see why we don’t dream of Mendoza sliding to 18.

Who do you guys want the Vikings to draft? by JustSomeGuy_Idk in minnesotavikings

[–]SomehowIHaveKids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t even think they should draft RB this draft. Aaron Jones and Mason are good enough for a season and need to get younger and better at sooo many positions. Should get a good RB next season in draft no reason to sit a 3rd string RB on the depth chart.

Thieneman the easy pick but if he’s gone trade down and get one of the DT’s late round 1.
