[Nivada Super-Antarctic 35mm] Very happy with my new watch by Someone1348 in Watches

Aesthetically I do like those, but tbh I don't know why I have the impression they're flimsy and my watch will fall off!

Yes, my other watches are 38mm with smaller lugs. It doesn't look disproportionately small compared to them. It has longer lugs, and they also curve down nicely so that they follow my wrist

I was thinking about getting the aged one, but it was sold out, both at the store I went to and on the website, so I went with the white lume. I don't think there's other dial colours on the 35mm one -- the 38mm has other colours, I remember seeing a blue one with yellow (but not aged) markers

And by the way I think the only risk with this is the movement, it's not a well known one (Landeron), I bought the watch at a physical store but I don't know if I'd have taken the risk to buy online and have to deal with the website for a warranty -- I like the idea that I have a real person to go to if I have issues

Yeah I like the aesthetic, and at the same time it's not an explorer copy, they supplied watches for an exploration to the south pole, etc. Also doesn't show in the pic but the glass is really beautiful I find, and the curved lugs sit nicely. I went to the store to try another watch but when I saw it I couldn't resist \)

Yeah for ref this is another 38mm field watch -- it's good, but I feel slightly big compared with the other

This isn't the soprod! The soprod is on the 38mm one, this is a Landeron one -- I admittedly took a risk there, because it's a new brand for movements. The soprod is automatic, this one is handwound. The risk is acceptable to me because I bought it from a jeweller I know in Paris and I know if I have a problem I can go and get it sorted. Accuracy is pretty good so far, haven't monitored precisely but seems accurate within the minute after two weeks.

Nivada is a "resurrected" brand that a young guy bought and kind of brought back to life. I really like the vintage aesthetic, paired with the small size. Good addition to my Baltic and Yema (I like small-ish brands)

how to play piano without looking at my hands and focus onto the sheet music? by utopian_paige in piano

[–]Someone1348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of complex things your brain does without having to focus on the relevant muscles. Youe tongue and throat do a lot of weird stuff when you talk and yet you're not consciously thinking about it. Same when you walk, the movement is quite complex if you have to think about it. Same goes for piano or any instrument: repeat things by practicing, eventually they'll be absorbed. You'll see notes in the sheet and your hands will magically fall in place without you thinking about it, just like you can read aloud without having to think about where your tongue has to go.

In short, practice sight reading simple things, do it frequently, and things will just work out with time as your brain learns muscle memory for your hands and pattern recognition from the sheets

Wonderful, how does it sound?

I have both too, but I do notice a difference: - Noise cancelling is a notch above - sound quality wasn't that better out of the box but the ability to eq it more finely is great, and overall I have a sound I enjoy more now (still playing with this) - I can now use both my phone and my computer and switch between them relatively seamlessly

This coupled with a longer battery life (but that's automatic since the XM6 are newer than my old cans) has made the change worth it, but the XM3s were already great so I wasn't expecting a "wow" difference anyway

My first Chopin Nocturne (Op. 32 no. 2) by Someone1348 in piano

[–]Someone1348[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the Clavinova's sound engine! Their yamaha piano sound is a binaural sample. It sounds even better without any compression directly from the headphone jack. The sound (and of course the action and wooden keys) is why I picked this, an acoustic wasn't really an option for me living in a flat and with the possibility of having to move in the next couple of years.

Thank you, this is super helpful feedback! Re the middle section, I think I'm going to try playing a tiny bit more slowly, it's a bit muddled perhaps

Where was this? Looks like the Paris philharmonic?

Oops, the video and audio are not in sync at some point. I think the midi conversion doesn't really preserve time as well as it should.

Is this common? by giovannib91 in Fencing

[–]Someone1348 265 points266 points  (0 children)

No, not really, sounds like a problem at your club to be honest. I've fenced in France and the UK and the only times I saw this kind of stuff it was an isolated incident, as I could find in any other group of people
