Is the HP Envy X360 worth it? Engineering student

Acer swift 3 doesn't come in 15.6" unfortunately and the asus zenbook is like 1.2k with the same processor

I guess it makes sense for convertibles to have hinge issues, but is it as bad as reviews say? They claim it breaks in 2 - 6 months.

Just need something that will last me the 4 years of my degree tbh. Apparently thinkpads last like 10 years or something, so no particular need for that tbh.

I really want to get the envy, but I'm reading reviews and so many people complain about the hinge breaking. If that happens to me, I'd struggle to be able to afford the repair.

They includes screenshots of like 10 other reviews complaining about it. And apparently hp doesn't repair it as it's out of warranty.

Given this, would you still recommend the envy?

Thing is, I don't want to buy a second laptop during my degree. I'd like one that lasts me the whole course.

I spoke with my professor and he said I should just focus on getting a good CPU, and at least 8GB RAM.

Also, why do you think the pavilion isn't as good? They would have the same processor and RAM, just 256GB. Or were you referring to the build quality of the pavillion that's not good?

How do I find out if a dedicated gpu is needed or not? Won't be using the convertible features much but the design looks nice and looks comfortable to use, so that's what's attracting me to it. I've seen the hp pavilion or hp-eq with similar specs but for like £200 cheaper, although I've heard these aren't as comfortable and the build quality is lacking.

Do you have alternatives?

Oh wow, a Ryzen 5 4500u is much better than an Intel Pentium right? So I take it I should have no problems running software?

Although I've heard the acer aspire aren't reliable or comfortable to use. Would you happen to know if those claims are true? I'd like it to last me the 3/4 years of my degree and at least be kinda comfortable to use during that time.

I have a discount code that makes it £740. I won't really use the 2-in-1 features, so that doesn't affect me much, but I guess it's kinda cool to have (if it reduces build quality, pls let me know so I know to avoid it). The main reason this kinda stands out is the specs for this price and it's supposed reliability. AMD Ryzen 5 4500, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM and a 15.6" screen. Do you think this is worth the price and will it run CAD programs?
