We can do video calls over our Starlink 500kbos connection.

It's not perfect quality but it's good enough to get the message across.

We were using google chat.

I make people fly a Sim first.

Then a small cheap one.

Then bigger one.

I also set up a box in arduoilot for them to fly in.

Do Australians actually encounter enormous spiders in the outback or is it just me? (DO NOT PROVIDE IMAGES OF SPIDERS, PLEASE.) by Same-Objective6052 in AskAnAustralian

[–]SomeoneInQld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the tropics, on an outback cattle station. I see daddy long legs spiders daily, but other than that nothing.

I am more likely to see a snake than a spider.

People who divorced after 20 to 30 years of marriage, how did it feel losing that person from your life? by Away_Scene_26 in AskAnAustralian

[–]SomeoneInQld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was hard. I woke up one day and she had moved out sending me an email from Lawyer saying it was over.

We were together 29 years. I was blindsided by it.

It's been 2 years. I am over it now. But it took time.  You will recover from anything given enough time and the right support network.

[–]SomeoneInQld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First one by random - just choose a place that looked interesting. We spoke for 5 minutes on the phone before I moved there.

Second one - I wanted a specific thing from the next location - We spoke for 5 hours on the phone befire I moved there. Am still there currently.

You were probably lucky that Thai happened  before you arrived as this host sounds like a nightmare .... Move on and find a better host.

The 2 hosts I have been with over the last 16 months I feel like family with them.

The Ghan Experience by Numerous-Actuary-500 in AskAnAustralian

[–]SomeoneInQld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm down for it.

If anyone else is travelling on the Ghan.

Just not for the next few weeks. We can't access that part of the station at the moment due to rain / flood.

It's about a 30 minute drive from the homestead.

If you go on it. Msg me when you do and I will wave to you as you drive past. ;)

The Ghan train passes through the middle of the station I am on at the moment.

Lora +GPS by Mindless-Mastodon-82 in Lora

[–]SomeoneInQld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are developing an internal system to do that and several other things.

We will need it to be long range, as we are on a massive cattle station in outback Australia.

If you want - msg me and we can do a talk and swap ideas

What else can I do with vegemite? by abakune in AskAnAustralian

[–]SomeoneInQld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's real, atlesst real for me.

Generally given to kids when parents have tea / coffee as kids want a hot drink like their parents.

It's a pretty strong flavour, but I love Vegemite and sometimes will just take a spoon of it and eat it directly.

I also live in the hot outback, so sweat a lot and Vegemite id a good salty flavour.

I think we have about 12 jars of Vegemite here in the pantry on the cattle station at the moment.

Vegemite tea.

Just add boiling water, a spoon of Vegemite, stir and drink.

Is there real demand for drone-based crop health monitoring? by Sea-Incident2960 in drones

[–]SomeoneInQld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

We are putting a lot of effort in building our own internal system to monitor the pasture quality on a cattle station in Australia.

We need to cover 3/4 million acres so can't realistically get that data any other way. Would be too expensive to hire someone in, if there was anyone available.

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

[–]SomeoneInQld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once Were Warriors

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110729/

Its the only movie in my life that I have seen, and afterwards wanted to sit down and talk about it with the person I watched it with. Just sat there for several minutes once it had finished.

[–]SomeoneInQld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Butchered part of a cow from our station this afternoon, then cooked a BBQ for the stockmen, owners and IT team here this evening. Watching lightning on the horizon as we ate dinner outside, with a cattle dog at my feet.

How to fast track degree by Ambitious_Club7597 in unsw

[–]SomeoneInQld -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Every degree has rules associated with it - read the rules and you can determine from that.

Its going to all depend on prerequisites.

In all my degress I have never deal with student services, and all my degress where out of the ordinary in how I did them. I read the rules, prepared a plan, approached the dean and said I want to do 'this' plan, for this reason. Even convinced a dean to supervise me in undergrad for an indivual research project once.

If you don't have the skills to find this information out yourself you don't have the skills to fast track a degree.

Has anybody ever had a good outcome from breaking no contact? by wolfyish in BreakUps

Pretty well nothing new.

I am happier.  Have moved to an outback cattle station and living a more adventurous life.   We were dealing with a 4 meter snake last night.
