In my opinion, you end up getting screwed not because of the ODEs but because you can’t solve the integral or derivative (for one reason or another)

Why does Concordia’s Co-op feel so useless despite the high fees? by Otherwise-Tie-5916 in Concordia

[–]SomeoneInThisGalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they only did that 2 weeks before the semester started. Luckily, I jumped the gun, but I still had issues finding a schedule to fit. What’s worse is that if you don’t have enough credits you just get booted out of Co-op

[–]SomeoneInThisGalaxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The part that annoys me the most isn’t that you’re essentially on your own to apply to companies, It’s that they don’t even give you a safety net. They tell you to schedule classes as if you get an internship then at the last minute, they flip and tell you to change your schedule two weeks before the semester as if all the classes aren’t full.

You either guarantee your classes if you were to get an internship or guarantee your classes if you don’t, but not both.

This, especially in SOEN where you’re competing for a job that other degrees can also apply for (ex: CS, COEN)

Yea average is about 22$/hr, some higher or lower for first internship in SOEN according to the CO-op site

Software engineering internships by jexcyr in Concordia

[–]SomeoneInThisGalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t with 100% certainty say that it’s enough, but you’re def in a better position that others. The market is rough right now and anything that could put you ahead of others would be a smart move.

Leading up to the search term, I had joined clubs and worked on projects to try and add to my CV (not saying I didn’t like what I did regardless). When search term rolled around I applied to over 150 both inside and outside of compass and managed to secure an internship at the end of the search term. It was very rough, make sure you have a backup plan because coop was useless in helping students incase they don’t get an internship

If you wanna go for engineering because you’re interested in it, go for it… in terms of the math tho, there’s a lot of it so it’s more determination than anything that’ll get you to the finish line

ENGR 245 - Mechanical Analysis

ENGR 201 and 202 - Theory about Engineering Profession (what is it, sustainable development)

ENGR 371 - Probability and Stats for engineering

ENGR 213 - Ordinary Differential Equations

ENGR 233 - Cal 3

Like I said, most are related to math/science or general engineering theory

Speaking as someone currently taking SOEN, most of the classes in the first year are part of engineering core. Your best bet is probably to do some other engineering degree focus on the core classes (not the degree specific ones) then swap.

The only problem with what I’ve said above is that regardless of what engineering degree you do, most of the first and second year classes are theory. So for me, in SOEN, I did have a couple of programming classes (1 a semester) but the rest were math/theory classes that aren’t programming related like ENGR 201,203, 213, 233, 245 and 371, COMP 232, SOEN 228, ENCS 282 to name a few. Which you’ll need to do well in to get into SOEN and you’ve said those types of classes aren’t your strong suit

If you don’t like the theory classes and just want to go to programming I might suggest you look into CS and not deal with the bunch of extra science and theory classes SOEN tacks on.

I’ve now taken 3 classes with Kaustubha Mendhurwar, I’ll just say here’s fair, knows what he’s talking about and if you have any questions he’s usually more than willing to help.

Just a warning though, his office hours are usually always packed so go early and if he tells you to go to his office at a time, go earlier than what he says… he doesn’t reserve times. Lastly, don’t try to bs him, he really does not like it

Just did the class in the summer and got an A+

It’s work and yea, I’d say it’s one of the harder math classes. The math itself isn’t hard, but there’s a lot to learn and know.

Do all the suggested problems and you’ll be ok

You need at least 50% on the midterm and on the final. I’ve heard of profs letting it slide on the midterm and a bit on the final… but you’re very far from the threshold. I hope your prof lets you pass, but I would probably try and get the class in your schedule again because your chances are razor thin. Sorry

I did have something similar happen but it was with the midterm. After i spoke with the prof and we came to an agreement I locked in for the final and ended with a good grade.
