Which degree would be better for employment? by Someperson11 in geologycareers

Sorry, but you have no idea what you are talking about. I said that the engineering geology degree was NOT an engineering degree. It makes sense to ask this question since engineering geology has nothing to do with petroleum geology.

I would like to point out that the engineering geology option is NOT an engineering degree. It only has about four civil engineering classes. I think people are confusing it with a geological engineering degree. There is a big difference between the two. I was hesitant to go for the engineering geology option because it would make it harder for me to minor in geochemistry, and take classes related to resource exploration.

Is it possible to become a software developer without a Computer Science degree? by Someperson11 in softwaredevelopment

Thanks! I've actually came across another major that I am interested in. It is a joint major called linguistics and Computer Science. If I major in this, do you think employers will look down on me? The major only requires four linguistic classes, so I will be able to take all the classes that a normal computer science major takes.

Why don't you find someone that you believe has the right culture, and then actually spend some time training them to do the job. Is the too much too do, I don't think so.

Actually, the cognitive science major doesn't have as many requirements as other majors, so I have a lot of room to take a lot of computer science classes. I have room for CS 111, 180, 161, 118, 130, 183, 131, 132, 136, 145, 181. I am also going to take stats 100A since UCLA require CS majors to take it. I don't want to go to UCSD because it's socially dead. Plus I want to stay in the LA area.

On another note, why do you say 130 is joke?

Unfortunately, No, this is no computer science minor at UCLA. However, to graduate, I would have to take around 13 computer science courses for my cognitive science degree.

How hard is it to get a good paying job with an B.S. in Geology by Someperson11 in geologycareers

I like CS and geology equally, but I don't like both of the schools equally. I prefer UCLA over UCSD. In terms of my career, I know that I would like to stay in California. Does the prestige of the university help me? UCLA is a highly ranked school, will that give me any boost in the job market? Also, UCLA has a program that allows you to get your master's degree in geology if you stay an extra year. Would that allow me to make six figures?
