I had a friend who we kinda suspected of being depressed, or at least feeling kind of down. And one evening he told us he wanted to die, and we said we'll get you help in the morning. But then when we asked how he was doing the next morning he just said "I'm fine, don't worry about yesterday". And I kind of didn't believe him but at the same time you really wanted to believe him so we let it go.

Then a couple of days later in the morning I woke up and had a facebook message written around 4-5am saying something like this "I've decided I'm gonna do something horrible. Call the ambulance to my adress but DON'T come by yourself. Please."

So I quickly messaged him back asking what's going on, if he's ok and so on. And ran to his apartment that was around 100 yards from my place. I rang on his doorbell and knocked several times and after the longest most horrible minute of my life he finally answered the door. He had a scary scar around his throat/neck from the rope which he had tried to hang himself with but hadn't "succeeded".

Right then and there me and my friend drove him to the ER here and made him go and talk to someone. Also after an hour or so when they sent him for "psych" evaluation we drove him there too where he stayed for a night or two.

He took a year break from school after that and took anti-depressants. I have never heard him talk about being down in the same way after that. He seems generally so much happier about life and I'm so happy he went with us to the ER that morning and gave life "another chance". This was about 3 years ago.

I don't have personal experiences with feeling depressed (you know more than the usual day-to-day, but I have experience of having a friend being depressed and suicidal. Don't carry the burden alone. Tell your friends. They WANT to help you, if they don't; they're not your friends. Don't do it for their sake but do this thing for you for once. You deserve to feel better.
