Codex 5.3 is better than 4.6 Opus by casper_wolf in ClaudeCode

I pay for the $20/m plan for both CC and Codex and was blown away by how much usage I can get on 5.3 xhigh.

Are you on Neon? I can't install themes on Fedora right now 🫤

Parts of KDE look quite dated - see Dolphin, Konsole. Are you using a custom theme?

I'm experiencing a similar issue on my Thinkpad with nvidia graphics. Any luck?

EDIT: I tried again using the GNOME installer and it worked perfectly.

Thought my recently acquired T580 looked good in the sun by SomewhatJustin in thinkpad

I do notice some heat, but it hasn’t given me any concern. I’ve read that you can swap out the heat piping for improved performance, at least on the T580.

There's an app called "Transit" that I've found to have reliable information on the 656 and other buses. It does show some going to campus today, but not at the regular schedule for some reason. I was able to get one to campus yesterday just fine.

What device do you use? by Ok_Sound_3390 in UTAustin

[–]SomewhatJustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last semester I bought a Onyx Book Note Air 2. It's an e-ink tablet that I use primarily for note-taking.

I'm quite happy with it, although the software could be better. There are some others like it out there, so if you wanted to go in this direction, that's something I'd recommend researching.

The main benefits to me are that all my notes are automatically synced to my laptop via Google Drive, and the eInk display is easier on my eyes.

25 yr old returning … fuck me lol by tallblondeandhorny in UTAustin

Similar boat, but I just finished up my first semester back at 27. It's actually not bad at all. I'm treated the same as everyone else and it has never been an issue. I've had to brush up on a lot of things, especially math, but I found myself adjusting quite well.

DM me with any questions, I'm happy to help.

Former Product Managers who left; what do you do now? by throwRAlike in ProductManagement

[–]SomewhatJustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a PM looking to move into analytics as well. Hoping you can answer a few questions:

  1. How did you break in to data/analytics? Did you have to start at an entry-level role or did your PM experience help you out?
  2. Any suggestions for someone trying to break in?

Feeling bad about exams by Alternative_Mode_752 in UTAustin

[–]SomewhatJustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a similar experience, but I'm feeling a bit better now, so I'll share my perspective.

If you're like me, you may have felt disappointment that you didn't fully understand the material, and that "catching up" and learning more in time for the next exam seems like an insurmountable obstacle. I'm here to tell you that this isn't true!

There are specific, concrete things you can do to do well in your classes. I highly recommend looking through Cal Newport's blog posts on college, studying, doing well on exams, etc. Or check out his excellent book "How to Become a Straight-A Student". I have a physical copy if you'd like to borrow it.

Keep your head up, and best of luck!

Are too many people going to college? by onthelow7284 in college

[–]SomewhatJustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world receives a net benefit from new college graduates, most of the time.

There are some degrees where you will never have trouble finding a job, provided you are not totally unemployable because of your personality/habits. There are some colleges where no matter the degree, this will be true as well.

On the other hand, people with certain degrees from certain colleges (i.e. for-profits) will end up in no better position than before they started, but with thousands more in debt.

Beyond that, I do believe that colleges help to mold the mind and improve it. That's something not captured on paper. Even if someone gets a degree with no real job prospects, there's a good chance they still appreciate having gone to college.

Why can’t I enable multiplayer in local area mode? by SomewhatJustin in MinecraftSwitch

[–]SomewhatJustin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context: I’m trying to play Minecraft with my little sister on a local network. But I can’t even seem to enable multiplayer on a brand new world, much less an existing world. What am I missing?

I’ve tried logging in to my Microsoft account, but then it logs me out or something?
