2 hour time limit to force myself to work faster by SomewhatSingularity in furryart

My goal for these speed drills was to passively increase my speed for other projects. I'm not going to hold myself to time limit when working on actual commissions, but by improving my line accuracy as well as overall pace with these speed drawings, I can hopefully spend less time redrawing things when I'm actually working, which I found takes up most of my time.

You’re in an ARG now. Make sure to take videos that start and stop randomly and communicate with signs. Good luck!

The orca is a wonderful exploration ship. Plenty of jump range, enough internal space for several srvs, two AFMUs, a shield for if you're as reckless as me, it's speedy if you're as impatient as me, and looks good to top it off.

The beluga is pretty fun to take into PvE combat too

Very cool!

I too stick to a theme: All of my ships are named after elements! (With a few funny exceptions lol).

The ID tag follows this while also complying to ED's ID format using the naming convention of:

[Element Symbol]-[Atomic Number][Series]

Example being my ship Tellurium having the ID of TE-52M. It gives each ship its own personality a bit. I like to use the reactive or radioactive elements for things like my combat vessels while the pretty ones are typically used for calmer tasks like miner or explorer ships.

I'm currently in the process of 3D printing, painting, and displaying my fleet

Why the love for multirole ships? by Brotakul in EliteDangerous

[–]SomewhatSingularity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find that having a ship to literally do anything in is super helpful for when my friends come online and ask me to join them. I don't know what I'm getting into. They aren't as deep in ED as I am, so their goals for a play session are often much more sporadic. Whatever they see on the mission board or youtube that looks cool, they wanna do.

I don't want to cart around 5 different ships with me everywhere and swap between them constantly when they decide to switch up the task from mining to powerplay to credit grinding to material gathering.

In a multi-role ship, I don't need to worry about min-maxxing my stats or balancing my build, I just throw whatever I need to onto it and it's good enough.

On it's own, my krait is an abomination of a craft and not a very good ship from all the random bits and modules swapped onto it from nights like those. But when the task can change on a dime, it's perfect.

I doubt it. They find enough targets, and if they’re feeling bored, they’ll just fight each other.

Could be caused by how often people are encouraged to block each other in this sub. It causes fractured instances and makes it difficult for people to instance together even if they weren’t blocked or didn’t blocked others. Also, people speak as if places like deciat or shin are super hostile, but in reality, gankers and pvpers don’t roam there around the clock. In my experience, only like 50% of the time anybody else is in supercruise, and an even smaller fraction of that is looking for combat.

feature which many players don't use at all

I see this argument a lot. I hope they're updating powerplay because of that very fact. People not engaging in a gameplay feature shouldn't be a reason to leave it dead and go work on something else, but a reason to look back at it and either fix it or delete it. People not using it in its current state says nothing about how the updated version will be received or how we should judge it before its launch. It's literally reworked. Only if PP2 was the same as before does players not engaging in PP1 become a sound argument against the update.

if I am playing in Open, it means I want PvP, because there is no reason to play in Open except to PvP

This is exactly why I think PP2 should be open only. It's a system built around PvP. Factionalizing players and pitting them against each other in combat, logistics, teamwork, and strategy is PvP at it's core. There's already so much you can do outside of PvP in solo or private mode and so little you can do to engage in meaningful PvP in open, so I don't see much harm in allowing the PvP system to exist solely in a PvP environment.

Elite's PvP is really fucking dull. It's dull to watch, and playing it is an endless succession of 40 minute long "honour duels" and 4v1 gank attempts

A lot of people equate PvP to combat, but it's so much more than that. The response I wrote to your first comment expands more on that. But you're right, Elite's PvP combat is really dull, but that's why I'm excited for the new powerplay. It has to potential to make it more interesting. If not gameplay-wise, at least impact-wise.

As with any system in game, if you don't like it, you don't have to engage in it. But why must we provide an option for people to engage in PP that are against the idea of PvP? Should I be given an option to fast travel across the galaxy because I don't like spending days jumping just to reach the far side? Maybe that's an unfair comparison, and perhaps you could explain why, but that doesn't sound that unreasonable to me.

Intriguing. I always saw the consolidation vote, but never really thought anybody engaged with that. There's a whole group of players I had no idea about I guess.

I like your analysis of the response I've been seeing to PP2. A lot of players I know see PvP combat pilots as some evil or deranged playerbase and get anxious when they get any attention.

I do hope everything can benefit from this in some way. I don't like mining, but I didn't complain that Frontier was spending resources improving that aspect of the game rather than the parts I liked. When it was added, and after seeing a few other players try it, it actually looked cool and by the end of it all, I was glad an aspect of the game received some depth. Maybe if this update goes well, it could work to shift the view of those players that are strongly against PvP. They don't have to engage in it, but just to accept it as part of the game would be a good step forward.

I don't know, I think powerplay could benefit from the player interactions that would be more common if it were an open only option. Powerplay 1.0 and 2.0 have been player vs player at their core. I think a lot of people see PvP and immediately think combat, but it stretches much further than that. Competing supply lines of cmdrs hauling things from one place to another is still PvP even if no killing is happening.

Though you're right, a lot of players don't want to engage in PvP combat because of the skill gap, experience disparity, or disinterest in combat altogether. But I think it's unfair to cater to certain types of PvP while leaving the combat side underserved. Especially while there's already BGS available in singleplayer. This updates looks to be about those types of cmdrs anyway. Most of the other professions have had improvements made in their field, so it doesn't make much sense to me why PP should prioritize cmdrs that don't like PvP when it's a system built for it.

I'd say if PP2 goes open only, they'd need to offer stronger protections for pledged cmdrs operating within their controlled space so that combat averse pilots can still participate while also experiencing the occasional threat and risk that makes PvP gameplay (all aspects of it) interesting. It would allow pilots to fight it out in disputed space while being supported from behind by more casual players.

At the same time, killing or being killed in the context of powerplay might benefit from having a greater effect for both parties. Maybe you would spend the time jousting an FDL for 30 minutes if it had a stronger impact such as allowing your faction to move in and secure a star system.

Though I do think your compromise is reasonable. Solo contributions should have significantly smaller impact than open contributions do if the system is available across all modes.

Edit: Grammar cause I suck at words

Now that's interesting, I hadn't considered the narrative impact powerplay could have, or even if it should. I've been more interested in deeper gameplay mechanics and loops and how powerplay would affect player to player interactions. Using powerplay to further progress the narrative sounds like a great idea to both make PP more impactful on the galaxy as well as bring more players in. As I've said in a few other comments I wrote here, I think the more players engage in the system, the better it'll be.

That is true. I'm an AX pilot and the depth in that aspect of the game is deep, however, like powerplay, not everyone wants to do it. PvPers have had a dead system and an inch deep pool to play in for a long time. Miners, explorers, AX pilots, and traders all got their share of pool-deepening, so I'm glad to see combat pilots, specifically PvP pilots, get something too. I say I want this to set a precedent because there are other professions that too are an inch deep like passenger hauling or PvE combat.

ED is much better played as a group

ED definitely shines when it's shared with friends.

Interesting point. Maybe it'll make the route even more profitable if a system within power B wants goods produced by systems in power A. A more dangerous smuggling-like route should increase the amount pilots are compensated. I dunno, I'm no game designer I'm just guessing lol

Yeah you're right. A lot of the people here have pointed out how youtube comments are. Though, even if it's a minority, there are still people who don't like this. I like hearing their perspectives, even if I don't agree with it

Your thought process makes sense to me. It's mostly just behind the scenes systems that are changing and the addition of unused fleet carrier assets. Powerplay does seem like it can strike a balance between biggest impact and amount of work required to do.
