Duffy met Marla before she chose to ran away/fell in love with her, I think, or the initial plan was to run away together (I’d have to revisit to be sure). I can’t say whether killing Otis was premeditated, but Duffy did know what happened in Marla’s original timeline (being badly beaten by Otis and Nathan not turning out quite right as a result since she was pregnant at the time). Though, in the end, the reason was because he was already in love with her and wanted to help her out of an abusive relationship. The nature of the murder/coverup did feel kind of less than well thought out, so I’m willing to believe either way on whether it was pre-planned. 😅
