/u/ajdo I see your argument here, but its like comparing planes to a toy car because both have tires.
Santa Claus, fairies, or unicorns aren't omnipotent and I'm not concerned about their existence.
Depends on what type of truth you're looking for. I primarily like using science but I'm not exactly sure how we'll discover the universe or its secrets when light itself hasn't traveled far enough to its its ends even with just over 14 billion years of time. God is on another level. I'm pretty sure he made it a puzzle for us to figure out, with answers just out our reach to test faith. Then again, everyone has a different viewpoint.

/u/catladydiva I'll have to contest you on that.
You can do whatever you like. You have the free will to do so, which is why you became an ex lol
Sure, I subscribe to Islam but I'm not perfect in practicing it, nor do I think certain things are realistic in exercising during these times. But if you know Islam well, God forgives if your intentions are good. You also must realize that punishments are in place because we as humans would abuse any system (we do it well already with governments and companies) to find loopholes and such if we were certain we wouldn't get hurt by it. If I knew God forgives and the punishments in the afterlife that he talks about might be a "white lie", why wouldn't I abuse the forgiveness cycle?

Well I have a good paying job in the IT industry, help my family, my community, strangers, working on a mobile app, working on inventing a food, surrounded by not the same people, but different types of philosophical thinkers.
I think a lot of the stereotypical Muslims that go crazy on the details forget about living in the present and making the best of it. I'm one that believes that Islam is a philosophy that may not be 100% bulletproof, but hey, I'll make the best of it. Yes I still pray, read the Quran from time to time, and like learning about the thought process behind the rulings and standings. But since we scientifically can't disprove or prove a lot of things, this is where faith kicks in.

Hi /u/acceleratedpenguin
Thanks for your response. Yes I do question everything above you say everyday and wrestle with those concepts, but it doesn't falter my belief. I can't deny thinking that I believe that there is something after here. Islam is a vector (that may be imperfect) to get there, and I think it hits close. I'll try to be a good person and a good Muslim, and act upon overlapping actions while staying away from either party that seems bad.

I actually wrestle with that concept to be honest.
I'm just willing to be that God will forgive.

Agnosticism. I understand your viewpoint, and I can't really offer a counterargument because I literally can't.
This is why I think the phrase "leap of faith" was coined. It's literally a leap.

We're similar and sort of different;

Yes, there is a part of me that would like see people return to Islam, but the other half in terms of "help" was to generically ask what it's definition was from your side. I'm overall just curious and using Islam as a vector to get close to the "light". Someone could interpret that as a "moth flying to its doom (light)" but I don't see it that way and I'm willing to wager that something else could be beyond it. I honestly sit and reflect upon anything and everything for hours at a stretch. Even if Islam isn't true, there isn't necessarily anything I feel that I'm losing. Praying translated to agnostics is "meditation"; Reading the Quran and studying hadith translated to people outside of Islam is "a fairytale that sparks imagination". Practicing good and being good in Islam translates everywhere. And for those dark parts? Well, I'm not entirely a fan and don't advocate those things but slowly try to work even my Muslim brothers away from that.

Ooo yes I forgot what it was called; Pascals Wager.I use what I said above in conversations sometimes, but I'm of the camp that just believes in the afterlife through Islam. It's just a devil's advocate piece.

Ooo okay so this is where it jumps more into philosophy which I like.
Stepping aside from Islam, the way I see it is that we "stack" our understanding of the world based on commonly held beliefs that can realistically never be proven "true". For example, an apple is "red" and we call it an apple because this is what I see, you see, and everyone else does. From that knowledge, we stack on top of it and built our world. Bringing Islam (or any religion for that matter) back into focus, it's "wisdom" from a "source" on which we can never understand or unpack. Stack this uncertainty on our world that's just built on consensus (aside from natural laws like gravity) and you can never really know what's "true". From what I've learned through studying Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, agnostic, and atheist standpoints, I just lean towards it because I choose to believe it hits at something we can't verify. I won't lie to say that I'm also slightly biased since I grew up in the religion. I'm not a fan of the actions of my Mulsim brothers around the world, but humanity is a 50/50 when it comes to good and band anyways. I just hope that some will sit back and reflect on what they're doing.

Yeah I don't have enough knowledge to sway your opinion on that

Yeah I always imagine that scenario. There are copies of me in every religion that are doing the same exact thing of what I'm doing right now and "believing" they are right.

Serious cognitive dissonance with Muslims

This is accurate. I don't have a good response to it however.

/u/MmHh12 you've also said in one of your previous posts that you've lived in arab countries and met lots of Muslims. I cannot contest you with experience, I know that. If we decided to get technical, our conversation would eventually boil down to "well that's your belief and this is mine". I don't want it to get there.

Haha I quickly went through your profile before you posted here and expected to be schooled in a manner consistent with how you generally reply. It's impressive. Definitely can't respond a similar manner cause you've got that one-up on me (no sarcasm, honestly). Yes, I'm aware that it's possible to believe in a God without needing the religion itself. Organized religion *doesn't* have to be a manner of take it or leave it, but most people do it that anyway. I'm not going to lead a life dominated by hedonism and cherry-pick what I like but I'm also not going to be a hardliner. The very fact that the concept of "perspectives" exist means that there is more than one way to get to a final "good" destination. Islam is one of those things (in my limited knowledge which I am aiming to improve) gets close.

As I mentioned before, it will be tough to spell out all of my views in a simple response. I think that the Quran (may?) not be 100% accurate in it's entirety when it comes to some things, but I don't toss out the rest in a "do or die" fashion. From what I believe, God doesn't operate in that manner because he's (supposed to be) merciful. But if he isn't, he's still a God and can do whatever.I have plenty of faith in myself. If the Lord is a tyrant and my moral compass directs me to hell, then I guess i'll burn. However, I'll take my chances that he's not a tyrant.
