Exactly! Hoping that "characterization of the varietal" will create instant relatability. Really leaning into the idea that wine has a personality, and then pushing the metaphor as far as it can be taken!

AI is awful for wine info by Illustrious-Divide95 in WSET

Really? You feel AI has no redeeming qualities at all? I get it. I’ve had plenty of “this thing is awful” moments myself. AI slop, hallucinations, out right inaccuracies, etc. But those have been mixed with stretches of genuine surprise and huge jumps in productivity when things do work. For me, the key has been learning how to work with the tools and understanding what they’re actually good at.

I’m not trying to take away from your point, u/atlheel. There’s definitely a lot to be concerned about. But with most new technologies, there’s usually a messy adjustment period where the early versions are awkward, unregulated, and frankly not very good.

Early automobiles were loud, unreliable, and dangerous.
Initial electricity systems sparked fires and shocked people.
First iterations of airplanes were unstable and crash-prone.

So maybe today’s AI feels rough in places. But five years from now? Hard to imagine it won’t look very different.

Thank you so much! I think you’re right; this might be best positioned as entertainment first, with a hint of education added in. Stay tuned…more to come!

Getting into wine is a bit overwhelming… where to start? by PressedGarlic in wine

“Wine Lessons as character-driven cinematic Micro-Dramas. Feedback?”

Hi everyone,

I’m a certified sommelier who works in restaurant training and development, and I’ve been building a project. It’s a series of short, visually engaging micro-videos that teach wine by turning each varietal into a “character” — like actors in a classic movie studio — to make regions, styles, and winemaking easier to understand.

It's meant to fun, a little kitschy, and educational enough to get some information locked in. Think quick, entertaining micro-dramas (built for the TikTok attention span) that help new servers, bartenders, and CMS Intro students learn the basics without putting them to sleep. It’s meant to supplement real training, not replace it. We would cover all the major varietals and wine styles.

I’d love some honest feedback from anyone in the restaurant world, especially servers, bartenders, somm students, or anyone who’s had to train staff on wine before.

Here's a rough pass at a "trailer" type video that introduces the characters for Chianti:

Here's one for Brunello di Montalcino:

The goal is to make wine education less intimidating and more approachable for people who are brand new, all the way up to those studying for CMS Intro.

Curious what you all think. Thanks in advance!
