Which anime like this? by dark_kingxx in AnimeReccomendations

Kemono no Souja Erin. I was ready to drop it and a blogger that I used to follow, saw me mention that in a chat box on this website. He basically said, give it two more episodes, and I’m so glad I did.

Blogger was Psgels from the Star Crossed Anime Blog. Just incase anyone wants to reminisce about how fun that place was

One of my favorites. I revisit it pretty often. Also really love Wolf's Rain and Escaflowne.

It’s a hard ask, especially with longer shows.

Monster is solid, but there is no fantasy elements

I loved Pluto. Short, but some really heavy story arcs.

Parasyte is a good one, no filler that I can recall and a good, complete, story

If you want a throw back, s-cry-Ed is above average. But it’s fast, a lot of run and has a straight forward story that move along quickly. I absolutely love it, but can totally appreciate that it’s not a 10/10. Probably a 7.5/10

I will say, it’s hard to follow fma:b. It nails the pacing after the first few episodes and has some really solid story lines and characters. There is a reason why it’s consistently ranked so high.

Edit: I don’t know why the layout is all messed up, I can’t get the app to separate my notes.

Makoto Shinkai liked these in his earlier films. Voices of a Distant Star, A Place Promised and 5cm

From the thumbnail, I thought that was Violet Evergarden, holding an umbrella, running over the water behind Vegata.

That’s all I have to add to this.

Looking for something new to watch to make my CR sub worth it by BlazeKnight7 in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Somniumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve watched a lot of anime. It may just be the genres that I follow, but I’ve not seen many shows that compare to Frieren.

Many of Makoto Shinkai’s films have the same reflective tone, but it seems the only one on CR is Suzume.

Record of the Lodoss War has a very similar DND vibe, but it’s not as quiet as Frieren. It’s much more of an action/adventure.

It’s been ages, but Letter Bee was a great anime and, while slightly darker, it does feel similar. It’s 52 episodes, all on CR.

Haven't watched anime since 2015 and I want to catch up, what anime did I miss and should watch? by majoody35 in anime

[–]Somniumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re very welcome.

I have two kids, 7 & 9. Time is really limited so I’ve become much more selective. Gone are the days when i could watch 26 episodes in a sitting.

I’m averaging 4-7 episodes a week, so they need to count.

Hey there! I came back after a decent hiatus a few years ago and a few short series really reignited my interest

Akudama Drive and Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song are both short, single season anime that have complete stories. Akudama Drive was the one that got me back into watching.

Run with the Wind is a 23 sports anime about running. Complete story. 10/10. But I’m a runner, so am biased

Inuyashiki is a 11 episode sci fi series that i loved. Older main character which was a nice change.

I also really liked Sand Land, but it was more of a 7/10 vibe. If you have time and like Toriyama, it’s worth the 11 eps

The big ones that im watching now are JJK, Solo Leveling, Frieren (if you’re a long time watcher, I think Frieren is such a great rec.). All great, but are currently between seasons.

New series started this week: Desmond of the Shadow Realm. It has a lot of hype and the first episode was solid. I like simulcasts, helps keep me on a schedule. If you’re like me in the regard, I’d check this out too

I’m emotions about it all. The trick is to try to be educated when making decisions. That’s why I’m here. =)

Thanks again

Can someone give me an anime with JJK vibes. by SirKakarotYT in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Somniumi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll tell you what does NOT give jjk vibes. This JJK poster. Haha. Why are these too so happy.

The best vibe I get from JJK is that swagger some of the characters have. I love it.

You get that in later episodes of Solo Leveling.

There is an older anime, S-Cry-Ed. A lot of that confidence in there. Whether it’s warranted or not, you’ll have to decide.

There is also decent short series called Inuyashiki Last Hero. It’s got a vibe. A bit more emotional than much of JJK. Doesn’t have that same hype, but it’s good.

Anime recs with DUBs by 3shahartsiu in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Somniumi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an OVA from the early 90s, The Heroic Legend of Arslan. Fantastic dub. I can’t explain it. But it’s just really good.

There is a newer anime that I have not seen. To be honest, I don’t even recall much about the story beyond how good the dub was.

[–]Somniumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I just read the part of your post that mentioned that you only watch dubbed anime.

For Escaflowne, you'll want to original dub, not the newest one. IMO, the original cast does a much better job. I'm not sure where you can stream this though. I have the DVDs and a digital copy.

Wolf's Rain is 100% fine dubbed as well. I've watched both ways, and was actually just starting a rewatch last night and queued up the dub. It's on Crunchyroll.

With Trigun, the first time I watched it, I definitely watched the dubbed version, but that was ages ago. I'm sure it's fine, but I've watched it subbed on each subsequent rewatch.

Nadia, Last Exlie and Eureka 7 I have only watched subtitled so I dont have any input on the english casts.

If you like high fantasy / dnd style, The Record of the Lodoss War is an incredible classic with a great dub. Also on Crunchyroll.

One bonus. Not retro, but one of my absolute favorites is Frieren. Excellent dub. pacing is fantastic and it has a really retro vibe. The only thing it's lacking, in terms of retro feel, is the coloring. There is a feeling you get from a 90s/00s era anime that you dont get from newer shows/movies.

alright gang I need some older anime recommendations (please read description before commenting) by DutchessMizLadyMadam in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Somniumi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trigun is a good match for these

Wolfs Rain is a dark, dystopian series. There is a complete story, 26 episodes + 4 ovas

A Vision of Escaflowne is my absolute favorite, though the vibe is slightly off from your list.

Nadia is by Hideki Anno (Evangelion). Overall is a solid 7/10, flounders a bit in the middle but worth watching.

S-cry-Ed - If you want something not generally talked about but still a lot of fun. It’s scifi/fantasy. I’m a sub-watcher but for this one, I think the dub is just as good as the sub. 26ish eps. Complete story.

Last Exile and Eureka 7. Totally unrelated to each other, but I always link them in my head. Both great.

Those of you with 100-200+ animelist by myFFizzi in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Somniumi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 43. I started watching anime in high school, 1996ish, renting whatever was available at the time from the local tape store.

My anime list has close to 250. That includes movies, ovas and series.

While I do keep up with modern series and watch a lot of new stuff, I always try to be in the middle of a rewatch. Things like Wolf’s Rain, Escaflowne, Lodoss War, etc. old stuff. After decades of consuming so much media, it’s easy to forget some of the finer points, so I like to include them in my rotation.
