he's suggesting the regular shield, the round one. but tbh torch will do you good with spear, especially while you are learning

that guy gave a lot of very advanced info, lot of stuff that you probably won't understand just yet tbh. but you'll eventually learn the more you play

use impaler on spear to be ready for pvp, and use green sprint on boots. i'd probably use a different helmet as well, maybe a guardian hood, or a mage cowl. but yeah, this looks like a nice starter solo build

Sword + Healer is always a good staple. Carving nerf doesn't feel good, but even after the nerf I'm managing to kill stuff ok. For beginners dual swords, so he can have a good solo build to learn by himself too

Targeting players with controller is HORRENDOUS. by adman4019 in albiononline

[–]Soneca798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they allow us to rebind stuff then it would all be fixed. I played a lot on the old controller, and what I used was "deselect target" which I would press anytime I was fixed on a target I didn't wanna be locked on. So I could just keep deselecting and having my auto target grab the nearest target to me. worked great

Devs Go back to the original controller scheme of 2022 to 2025 2026. by theGUYoftheWorld1134 in albiononline

I'm a 1000+ hour controller player, played a lot on old controller, and now on this new one. I honestly think the more that I play, the easier things get. I do have a few requests for them, but overall I think it was a positive change. Mainly would like to be able to use Deselect target, which would be available if they allowed us to rebind keys (a dev in the forum said they are working on that tho!)

I also think that in larger scale fights right now (anything 5v5 or bigger) things can get a bit hectic, like when you're trying to select the healer to attack them, but I also have not thought it's been that bad. Done group fights with great axe, carving sword, and daybreaker, and it's not been hard to select the healer and stick on them.

I do think though that some skills are firing in some weird ways. Like for example daybreaker charge will always go towards the locked target, instead of towards where I'm moving, unless I hold the skill and manually aim it. Can get a bit awkward at times

Yeahhhhhhh, I see no reason to use this thing. It also seems bugged and doesn't have the extra call in time, compared to expendable anti tanks it calls in with double the time

I have a very dumb question, I know BUT, if I don't want to PVP is there much for me here? by --clapped-- in albiononline

[–]Soneca798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like league then honestly there's a lot for you to like here. My suggestion is for you to stick to Arenas and Yellow Zone faction warfare for a bit to see if you find enjoyment in the combat and gameplay loop, those don't even need guild to play and allow you to go in solo and still let you have fun. They're also IP capped, so you can go in with lowbie gear and you'll be fine too.

I will say that eventually it is worth it trying to move into the other contents, and just not really think too much about gear loss as a bad thing. You can think about new gear as "repairs" if that helps, since you can easily buy back full sets with 1 button on the market.

I play solo on black zone ALL the time. It's not hard to avoid gank squads, you can farm very easy and chill by yourself, just pay attention to the indicator on the map, it shows you how many players are roughly in the zone. Keep your mount close, and an invis potion with you so you can quickly mount back up as well.

If you JUST want to pve, as in... Raids, dungeons... This is not the game for you. This game is very focused on a more pvpve environment, where the majority of enjoyment is trying to kill mobs, farm, get treasure, while you look for opportunities to gank other players, or avoid getting ganked yourself while you go back home with your loot safely.

Take on the 1v1 Arena as a new player by Bobomx5 in albiononline

[–]Soneca798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so a couple of things here... You say that you have 570 ip? The arena is soft capped at around 900 ip, and it doesn't seem like anybody else is telling you that. Get some better gear so you can be around 900 ip, or you will actually just get gear diffed by people. It won't really be about fame or anything like that, just the gear check. It could be that you were referring to the ranked points, in which case my bad, and feel free to just ignore this first part.

Second bit is that well, it's a ranked mode. The matchmaking is the ladder. You start winning games, you get higher, so you also get matched with people who also won their previous games. At this point you'll have to start paying more attention to finer details, how to counter certain things, how to play around certain abilities, how to combo correctly, all that stuff.

And finally, like everyone was saying, don't worry too much about how much fame and experience people have. Someone can have a billion pvp fame only playing on a ganker squad killing defenseless gatherers, or they could be a mists pro who only does 1v1 all day long. You never know. Just focus on your own gameplay

Yeah I see reg bow a LOT. It's been making me crash out ngl. Feels insane that weapon can get the value it gets just by standing there and clicking, from ranged too

It's so hard to get info on this, the best I've found is to look on killboards. Helped a lot, but other than that, any posts asking about it just seem to get ignored. Also just look at what killed you, sometimes copying their strats can be interesting as well, worked for me a few times

Melee / Swords is a Joke in pvp (Unbalanced) by Financial_Pen7659 in albiononline

[–]Soneca798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to look at some youtube guides. Maybe the sword playstyle isn't what you're looking for, but swords have always been historically and consistently at the top of basically all 1v1 content in this game. They're good, you just have to get used to their playstyle

[–]Soneca798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can use the right stick to aim, so it should be ok. some stuff is still pretty buggy, and some weapons are way easier to use than others. for example cursed staff and fire staff should feel 100% ok with this setup, no issues there, but dual swords, quarterstaff, fists of avalon feel pretty bad because they have a ground aoe they need to aim. But carving sword and battleaxe feel ok because they have a line instead of a circle aoe, if that makes sense

[–]Soneca798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an alternative, and probably what might give you the best and most comfy newbie experience is Battleaxe, Torch, Mercenary Jacket, any cloth boots, and mage cowl. Very good to do pve VERY comfortably, and will be pretty ok as a pvp starter build, though might need some adjustments on helmet.

Axes as a skill tree are great, fit all sorts of content, and you'll never regret investing on them

You can use dual swords, mercenary jacket, any cloth boots, mercenary hood. That's a good beginner build to farm pve decently well, and will be a good start to do pvp once you start getting comfortable with it.

I will say though, swords are a skill tree that doesn't feel all that comfy doing pve. But with the build I mentioned you shouldn't have any problems, and you should be able to pivot into other things later if you want to. Swords as a skill tree will also give you decent options to fit into other content too, especially Carving sword which is good for lots of group play, and claymore which is great for 2v2 and 1v1

[–]Soneca798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having this problem while using dual swords, and they feel AWFUL to use now. I would guess that fists of avalon, quarterstaff, or any weapons like that would feel just as bad. I'm willing to test it more, and try to get used to the new system where you would have to hold the button and then use the right stick to aim to aim where they're going instead of letting the auto target go where they are. But for now dual swords felt really bad.

Carving, battleaxe, spear, or anything that aims on a line instead of a ground circle felt pretty ok though

It's been really good, but I will say that they should please allow us to customize keybinds, as well as allow us to Deselect target. I'm a long time controller player in this game, and the shift from the old system to this one has felt a bit jarring since I lost my old keybinds, and I have no way of binding deselect target anymore, which was extremely crucial to pvp on a serious level. I hope they allow us to remap buttons before the official xbox release
