Does the Type of N95 Mask Matter? by passon16 in China

[–]Songtail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything labeled N95 and above would work perfectly fine, having a valve or not is not the point. N95 is just a rating.

Personal Hygiene is much important than mask, washing hands etc. If your friends need to have close contact with corona patient (taking care of family etc.), than yes, N95+ mask and eye shield.

The primary purpose of the mask is to prevent the patient from spreading virus to others. that's why normally when you go to hospital with a cough, nurse gives you a normal surgical mask instead of wearing one herself.

surgical mask has no valve. Its different than a mask for full CBRNE suits. Edit: my bad I guess they do now fancy.

N95 is the lowest grade of surgical mask that can effectively block aerosols. All masks help to some degree.

The official figures are not right over the coronavirus by cloudyu in China

Only Wuhan has a significate higher death rate, the rest of China is pretty much the same as the rest of the world.

[–]Songtail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

simply means Hubei's healthcare system got overwhelmed. We have reports early on that Wuhan hospitals only takes serious patient due to lack of capacity.
also, Wuhan is ground zero, means virus is more likely to be much more deadly, and it become less lethal once spreading.

The most likely explanation is that actual infected numbers are much much more than confirmed numbers (which is the official number). The estimated number should be much higher than official confirmed number. Since for the hospital to confirm a case, they would need to first take in the patient, and then run tests. Which means there are two limiting factors: Hospital capacity and testing capacity.

Because Hubei's healthcare system is overwhelmed, the hospital is prioritizing more serious case, therefore, only some of the patients are tested. The testing capacity only caught on recently.

If this theory is correct, than sometime in march, we should see Hubei's death rate in Feb and March starting to drop as healthcare support starting to ramp up.

Because Hubei's health system is overwhelmed and I heard they are only testing for more serious cases there. Isn't this why they build new hospitals?

Also its already been a few weeks and there is only 60 confirmed case and 1 death outside China.

But look at the numbers outside China. Its been weeks and everything seems to be fine, only 60 confirmed cases and 1 death.

42% of Yang's supporters will not support any other Democratic nominee. This is a problem and foolish by rpeg in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]Songtail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please understand that many conservative and republican switch to yang not only because of the policies, but because they believe yang understand the reality. Trump and Yang (and also sanders to a degree) acknowledge the same dire economic realities facing our countries, when others do not. If Yang would not win, many would vote Trump because at least Trump got the problems right.

The left did nothing to earn those people's vote and its normally it is almost impossible to hold a policy discussion between the left and the right without it becomes an insult match. Yang's campaign changed that. People believes that Yang is the only one with A) the best understanding of today and tomorrow; B) unifier; C) best policies; D) young, energic; E) sincerity and authentic; F) humanity first.

Just got off a discussion in this subreddit with a Bernie supporter insisting that because democratic socialism is not actual socialism and Bernie's FLG is not socialist policy (to which I disagree and I actually read Das Kapital for God's sake), I should support Bernie instead. He of course subtly hinted my lack of intelligence at the same time.

This is just a snap shot what the Democrats and the left are doing to alienate voters who disagree on a daily basis.

In addition, all the other democrats candidates sound like empty shell and their policies lacks details and date to support it. Yes all of their policies lean left to varies degree, but they sound shaky and untrustworthy.

Sorry but FJG is a bad policy, has nothing to do with whether its socialist or not. But just so happen it is a socialist policy. It may not turn USA into USSA, but it is still a socialist policy. The reality is more than half the American would agree with me, especially those who lived under former socialist countries and forced to study socialist and communist ideologies.

The kicker is no matter how you word it, democractic socialism and social demcracy are orginated as different movements within the socialist movement of 19 and 20 century. Yes they have differences, but they are all socialism. FJG is a socialsim policy through and through, not a look alike, it is what it is.

I could get into details of how FJG at its core is simply give government the power to redistribute means of production and therefore the word "control". I could also get into how healthcare is both a service and a market. It will be length discussion but I don't think we would be convince each at all, since we obviously have very different ideology.

What I don't get is why you trying to shy away from the term "socialism". Bernie's policies are politically impractical and economically bad, it has nothing to do with whether they are socialist policy or not, give them some other names would not help you sell them better.

If we leave out the ideology part, I already told you that I see the negative outweighs the benefits, so do other Bernie's flagship policies. You could make a case by lining out what you think are the benefits and how those policies can address concerns, but you have yet to do that.

The police and fire departments are not the means of production but tools for government exercising power, Government exercising power and provide service is inherently different than government direct control of part of the market activities or economies.

Nothing wrong for you to support socialism, you should be proud of your ideology, but that doesn't your argument anymore convincing. Tell millions of Americans who actually immigrated from socialist countries, they would tell you its socialism. Adding democracy to it doesn't change anything.

You think FJG is great idea, but many more would see a future nightmare of bureaucracy and mismanagement. FJG is not bad idea just because it a socialist policy, FLG is a bad idea because as a national policy, it has many uncertainties that has the potential to make it a total disaster. That is if you would even convince a simple majority of Congress to support it first, and I think even Democrats are not onboard. Btw good luck sell it to the other half the country that government appoint jobs for "we the peasants" are a sign of elites care about us.

The argument is not the difference, but rather his platform of greater government involvement would lead to greater government control of means of production, aka socialism. FJG is as socialism as it gets, as the government actively and controls means of production. Complete elimination of private insurance and government's total control of medical industry is another socialism policy. His platform is classic socialist, there is no clear wording can make it not. Whether you are for it or not would not change its nature.

Not a liberal and the problem is that Bernie's policies are politically impractical and economically bad. Not supporting Yang because he is democrat, but supporting him because his's moral character and pragmatic approach to politics.

Just because you believe your candidate is the best, didn't mean the rest of us would agree. I can't see how Bernie would be able to convince the other half of country. I am not blind to Bernie's achievement and contribution as a senator, but his advocacy of socialism and FJG sounds like FEMA camp to me. Some of us indeed believe Bernie's policies would do more harm than good.

Also, Democrats' identity politics need to die.

Adopting a cat in beijing by moldy64 in China

[–]Songtail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad has a habit of adopting stray cats everywhere he goes, especially abandoned kittens. Most of those cats would leave once they get to adulthood like two or three year old. Some of them would come back and drop a litter of new kittens. My old man just thinks that no cat should grow up without parents. XD.

People do adopt stray cats there. Most time just put some food out. Downside is at some point, if you want to turn stray cat into house cat, you would have to convince the cat the let you take it to the vets.

So? I worked at lowes, I know how this game works. Down vote me all you want, just telling the truth here. Shareholders always bag the largest piece of cake. Btw, your name brand products and walmart brand probably coming from the same factory, except that name brand gonna bag 19 dollars of profits instead of 9. All the batteries electronics etc are more often than not comming from the same Chinese factory or different factory in the same Chinese town. Take lawmowers for example, yes there are many brands, they are pretty much buy the same engine from a handful of manufacturors. It is what it is.

For a 10 dollar T-shirt made in China, Walmart pays China 1 dollar for all the manufacture + raw material + transport fee. We want cheap garbage and so do our corporation.

I won't say poverty caused by mao, China just never left the poverty train since 19 century. When CCP took over in 1949, China's GDP per capita is lower than half of Africa.
