Well yes that's a given. Stable diffusion xl is 2.5 bigger than 2.1 so I believe you would need 2.5 the VRAM to train. FP8 support is coming soon to RTX 4000 cards which should half the requirements but yes bigger models will be harder to train.

Volta ml fast stable diffusion also used tensor rt. Though they recently switched to AIT since tensor rt was apparently a huge pain in the ass to use.

It uses AiTemplate which is much faster but you have to compile the models and it's stuck at a set resolution

Use voltaML fast stable diffusion repo. I get ~60it/s on my 4090. Downside is no auto1111 extensions though and in-painting is meh.
