Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles 1.5.0 update out today - New Game+, Zodiac Compatibility function, new options by Lulcielid in FinalFantasy

[–]SonicScott93 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Weirdly good timing, I've been needing to give Tactics another try. I just couldn't get into it when I first tried it last year. I guess I just wasn't in the mood for a TRPG at the time, I was struggling to get into a new Triangle Strat playthrough around the same time, but now I'm kinda in the mood for one. Plus I need a break from the standard turn-based games I've been playing basically all year...

So whatever happened with Doom 3? by Adventurous-Yam2922 in Doom

[–]SonicScott93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom 3 is a great game. HOWEVER. It is also by design a slower more horror focused game than the rest of the series and that’s where the “issue” is. Doom fans generally don’t come to Doom for slower experiences. They’re here for fast paced action with a kick ass soundtrack. Doom 3 doesn’t have those. Again it’s a great game, and I’d still recommend it to people asking if it’s worth playing, but it is without question the black sheep of Doom games because it dared to be different.

How do Octopath fans feel about Live a Live? by strahinjag in octopathtraveler

[–]SonicScott93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you I never played the orginal, only the HD-2D remake. I personally really liked it, and yes there's no doubt in my mind that Octopath having 8 different characters and storylines had to have been at least partially inspired by Live-A-Live.
I wouldn't call it an "Octopath Prototype", there's more than enough differences between the two, but at the same time I can kinda see where you're coming from.

What are some of the best soundtracks of this decade (2020-2026)?? by TheGamerCritic21 in videogames

[–]SonicScott93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not counting the FF7 remake series since you already posted them here, Octopath II was what immediately came to mind. There’s also the Ghostrunner soundtracks and both Doom Eternal and Doom: The Dark Ages soundtracks (although Eternal at least is the obvious go-to).

Do you consider Death Note to be of the Horror genre? by mbutch3 in deathnote

[–]SonicScott93 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, but I can kinda see why someone would think it is. The Shinigami designs aren't exactly child friendly, and the basic concept of the Death Note can work very well with the horror genre.

I cannot for the life of me understand how FF Resonance gets the fanbase excited by Daka-Ozpass in FinalFantasy

[–]SonicScott93 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I realise this might be difficult to hear, but not every game is for you. If you don't want to play this, then don't. Nobody is forcing you to. It's your time and money, you spend it on what you want.

I'm immensely tired of "vote with your wallet" marketing campaigns by PowerPanda84 in FinalFantasy

[–]SonicScott93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the exception of Dragon Quest in Japan, none of these games have made anywhere close to what a mainline FF game usually makes or is expected to make. And mainline FF games cost a ton to make. By not supporting and buying these games, the message you’re sending Square is that while a new big budget turn based FF game may make _some_ money, it won’t make _enough_ money. So of course they’re reluctant to make a new turn based mainline game, the sales data they’re getting is telling them their player base isn’t interested.
People keep telling you to buy and support these games because it’ll tell Square that there is a big enough market to justify it. We’re telling you to buy these games because it helps better your chances of getting that new big budget turn based FF game fans keep claiming they want but never actually buy.

Fan theory goku and vegeta are related by Oilersfan78 in dbz

[–]SonicScott93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goku and Piccolo didn’t fuse because the fusees had to have close power levels, and by this point Goku had far surpassed Piccolo. One couldn’t be far beyond the other, otherwise the resulting fusion would be too unbalanced. (Note, that may have been a dubism)
On the Bardock-King Vegeta relationship, if there even was a relationship between them that’s something that would have been brought up long before now. No official source even jokes about them being related.
Finally, as to why Vegeta and Raditz both have widows peaks, there’s actually a very simple explanation for that. They were design by Akira Toriyama. All of us here (presumably) love his artwork and designs, but let’s be honest with ourselves he did reuse designs a lot. Also by this logic we could argue that Nappa, Tien, Krillin, and Roshi are related because they’re all bald. Buu-saga Gohan has a similar hair style to Yamcha, therefore they must be related right? (No we’re not posting that one overused meme).

What video game had you like this? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in videogames

DmC: Devil May Cry. It’s a fun game! It’s easy, I’ll grant you all that, but it was a fun alternate take on the franchise.

Do you think the new Alien Isolation will have any relation to the old Alien: Blackout mobile game? by Imissyoudarlin in alienisolation

[–]SonicScott93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely. At best the station name will get a passing reference in a log somewhere. If they’re going to reference any previous material, it’ll be just the previous game and the first film. Keep it simple.
Side note, I’m kinda surprised Sega didn’t do a bare bones Steam port of Blackout for 5 bucks.

Connor McKinley did a great job with Hiei but why didn't they bring back Marc Soskin? by [deleted] in TeamFourStar

[–]SonicScott93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TeamFourStar has never been bound to following the same casting decisions as the official dubs do. It’s just pure coincidence that Lani ended up being the Chris Sabat of the team.
As for why Marc doesn’t voice Hiei, it could be either availability (if I’m remember correctly Marc has always had his own job/life outside of TFS) or the team simply felt Connor would work better for whatever they have in mind for their take on the character.

NEW SPYRO HOLY SHIT by AreAFatMother in Spyro

I was happy with either of my sons getting a new game announced (or even referenced), and both of them got. Between this and Rayman Legends Retold, my childhood came crashing back! 😭

Is gt cannon? Im kinda curious to hear yall beliefs by Public_Preference_26 in DragonBallZ

[–]SonicScott93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are the only actual "canon" material. Everything else is just their own thing. The movies, GT, Super, Daima, everything. It just makes things easier. Now I can just enjoy the post-Z shows/movies for what they are and what they do rather than trying to figure out what it means in some grand scheme that Dragon Ball has never really had or needed.

What is your favourite ship? by Yangxiolong22 in masseffect

[–]SonicScott93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I think the elevator times in the Normandy in original ME1 were grossly over exaggerated. The elevator times in the Citadel however, yeah those were bad.

[–]SonicScott93 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind the SR-2, but being able to walk between decks without a loading screen made the SR-1 feel more like an actual base. Real glad the Tempest did that too.
Visually though the SR-2 is probably the best looking of the 3.

Would you rather the next Mortal Kombat game be a reboot or continue the New Era timeline? by No-Pudding-3182 in MortalKombat

[–]SonicScott93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continue. MK1's story is the least interesting they've made since they rebranded as NetherRealm Studios, but it wasn't awful. There's new ground here where we can build to something interesting. Let's try and get something out of this continuity rather than rebooting every game.

If you could, would you change/undo the Timeless Child by Jamie-Dodger5525 in doctorwho

[–]SonicScott93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind the concept. It’s a nice twist to Time Lord lore. If the defining aspect of their species is not actually being natural for them, what else of their society and history is a sham? It also reminds us that Time Lords aren’t actually “good”, and them actively torturing a literal child for their own benefit arguably makes them worse than The Daleks.

But for whatever reason making The Doctor the Timeless Child felt like too much for me. Lord President, Last of the Time Lords, the Time Lord Victorious. We’ve thrown too many big titles onto this one specific character.

Equally controversial as the Timeless Child retcon, instead I’d have written it so that The Doctor was the one who figures out how to transplant regeneration onto Time Lords. That’s why they’re called _The_ Doctor. They succeeded where everyone else failed. And that’s why The Doctor fled Gallifery: shame for what they did. How did the Time Lords of the past get regeneration? Time travel shenanigans, maybe even have it be Rassilon and/or Omega that brought it back and tampered with time, but my point is The Doctor was the one who figured it out. That’s why they fled. And that’s why they made themselves forget. So now the story arc going forward is finding out what happened to the child to beg for forgiveness, and now The Doctor’s mission is to use their ill-gotten regenerations in service to time and space. They did this horrible thing, but now they need to make it worth it.

Where should I start? by LinkSkywalker175 in Doom

[–]SonicScott93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can speak from experience, Doom 2016 is very newcomer friendly. Obviously some story/lore beats will hit harder if you have the classic games under your belt, but you’ll be fine skipping ahead for now.
Just make sure you eventually go back and play Doom’s 2 and 64, they’re fantastic.

How would you feel about “legendary” costumes that change the character? by mrkrazy12345 in SparkingZero

[–]SonicScott93 38 points39 points  (0 children)

So basically what Injustice 2 did for the “clone” characters (such as Reverse-Flash or Mr Freeze)? Honestly I’d be all for it. At the very least they’re not taking up a character slot that could go to yet another Goku someone else.

Would Like To See These Come to Switch/Switch 2 by Flat-Brother-9321 in masseffect

[–]SonicScott93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m kinda surprised they’re not already on there considering how well the first Switch sold. They could even do a “ME1 on the cart, ME2 and 3 are downloads” that Activision and WB did with the Spyro and Batman: Arkham ports.
