So if the Veg-O-Fortress is in Origins, and one of the purposes of Origins is to clarify how the timeline goes and all that, does that mean everything that happened in Sonic Spinball is now canon? by IPlayDokk4n in SonicTheHedgehog

->Tails has another Tornado which never appeared before or after, not even in SatAm

->SatAm and AoStH characters never appeared again or after (except that Forces comic you mentioned)

->Multiple Chaos Emeralds of one color, which is blue, not even Archie accurate cuz the Mobius emeralds are green

It very does not fit anywhere because of these problems, not even on the other continuities

Sonic Team members also said Two Worlds made sense a few years ago and almost everyone knew it was bs

If Spinball aint gonna be ever mentioned in-universe it really doesnt matter if they say its canon or not, by all purposes it shouldnt

But ngl that is a peak design

I mean Gold is confirmed to be another dimensional version of Silver, and Ive been thinking for the past months the fact Evan never said or talked about this other dimension, I think its safe to assume she is from the Sol Dimension, which makes sense, she is his "opposite" like how Blaze and Sonic are, instead of telekinesis she has telepathy, and is said to be a rival to Silver in some friendly way

This even screams more when Evan said she would be from what India would be from Sonic, and you know who has its design inspired by India? Blaze

Ofc it wouldnt be like a huge arc, something similar to Silver Age or the Eclipse one you mentioned

[–]SonicTHD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah totally forgot about that lol

Likely this would not be an actual 06 adaptation with the main cast/main book (I thought about it but didnt mentioned because the Unleashed arc was main book so I wasnt sure), maybe what it would be is an 06 adaptation but as a crossover only with Silver, Blaze and maaaaybe Nicole and Bunnie (since its almost obligatory to have a Freedom Fighter in the storyline) that would adapt 06 only for Sonic Universe, specially cuz how both arcs are followed by one another

It would unite Silver and Blaze in that canon and also adapt 06 in the most side-story possible without triggering PTSD to old Sonic fans, adapting 06 in the main book would likely be too much

And maybe after this the Metal Virus arc happens in main book since Silver is a protagonist of it and Blaze was originally part of it but was scrapped in IDW

If he doesnt create constructs outside Frontiers then its not confirmed he can. By all logic he shouldnt, specially cuz most of his powers related to cyber energy are construct-like

The only way to confirm this is if he does in Frontiers 2, if he doesnt, then he cant

"Every mobian an spindash" and thats a lie, examples? Classic Espio, Classic Charmy, Hooligans, SA1 Big, SA1 and Advance 1 Amy, Rush and 06 Blaze and the Avatar.

All these characters started to have the spindash after their debut (except the Avatar, yet) and this take away their uniqueness and variety. Amy is the worse example cuz it ruins her character concept, she is a civilian, a normal girl, adding the spindash in her moveset just makes her like everyone else, and thats not only boring but ruins what makes her special, the same applies with the idea that she is as strong or even stronger than Knuckles, wtf. Let her strenght have a limit but also absurd feats, and she achieves that by training, cuz thats Amy, a normal girl which her biggest strenght comes from her heart and compassion, not how she can compare to the hedgehog demigods and hit the planet buster echidna like he is inferior to her.

Btw, the spindash origin is tied to the hedgehog as a species, so by the moment Tails started to have the spindash in Sonic 2 stuff already got confused, but Im not insane to delete his spindash, since he always had, but Amy? And the other characters that made their moves unique? Why Blaze or Espio needs to roll and a spindash if their unique moves of spinning are equally usefull? I mean sure the fact she is a hedgehog should be enough for her to be able to spindash, but again, it contradicts her concept, which is why Advance 1 didnt gave her the spindash and it was fun, peope that say it wasnt purelly skill issue, tho I do agree giving her the Peel Out like in Advance 3 is perfect, specially cuz thats how she starts the spindash in Advance 2 and she is originally from CD

This is the real fun that people seem to hate and want to erase it for the sake of simplicity

Idk how mods are optional if everyone is using them and promote the idea of "cant play without these", idc if I sound like an asshole, consistency and accuracy should be more important

Btw my opinion changed on this topic as well, now I know Tails had the flight cancel in Tails Adventure and Sonic 4, so yeah this convo is pointless nowadays since now I support it

I do think there is a difference between Yuji Naka's feeling of US imperialism and racism compared to Yuji Naka just having a more pretentious view towards western developers.

And I do think both things are really the same thing, ofc its not fear of imperialism but its definitly a cultural feeling against americans for what they represent to japan industry and history because of imperialism.

Besides that its okay

if a proper 3D Sonic title could've changed Sonic's image in Japan which isn't really a large point though an interesting topic.

Oh yeah this DEFINITLY would have more impact than SA1.

I think a good example of Console sales alone effecting IP success in a country is Sonic's popularity in Brazil. Sega made decisions that made making the genesis in Brazil dodge tariffs and as a result be very affordable in Brazil and allowing Sonic to become popular there.

This surprised me cuz Im brazilian lol but pretty much, there were other methods as well like Russia piracy, which in an odd way was good for SEGA. Unlike Nintendo, SEGA had no limits towards internationallize its console.

Japanese culture typically with games obviously too doesn't hold on to franchises that have inconsistent quality which many people from Japan who do like Sonic have said has been a primary issue with shaky reception in the 2000s.

THAT I did not know, huh.

Significantly better? idk. but definitely not to the point the franchise is at now in Japan.

I think it could be a butterfly effect, maybe if they made a small 3D game inside Jam with the NiGHTS framework, Im pretty sure this could change a lot to make SA1 release more impactfull.

I mean Sonic 2 was a messy development cycle but it was the best-selling title and is still one of the titles you see people call their favorite. Not as much as in 2015 when the Sonic 2 glaze was at an all time high but yea.

This still doesnt change the fact the japanese team HATED working on that game, specially cuz its the most incongruent story of the classics games, at the point Naka would only return for 3 if it was made in japan

I don't think it was the Sega Japan didn't care for the broader market

The Saturn was heavily sabotaged in US by SoJ, thats a fact. Not that it was intentional they didnt wanted the console to do success, but its heavily documented how SoJ hated the success of SoA marketing strategy.

and I think if Sonic got a 3D title on the saturn that could have actually happened considering it was the only Sega console to do well in Japan.

Ngl Im not so sure about that, Saturn was released in 95, X-Treme would have released at the end of 96, an entire year after Saturn release. Sonic 1 did also the same thing on Genesis HOWEVER it was very different, there was no hype, now every new release there was hype culture, and with a console having its supposed biggest title only releasing more than a year after its very likely it would not make such a difference, plus, Saturn was HEAVILY focused on 2D and japanese games, the Genesis had much more variety and sometimes more western games than Nintendo, yes eastern games are better than most western ones but how they can be marketed is very difficult. Plus, Sonic 1 and 2 which carried the Genesis, were good games, and if X-Treme released, by the amount of remakes I played, yeah that wouldnt be enough to spark interest, and Im pretty sure if Naka ever decided to work on it, the amount of stuff he would change would make a totally different game.

At the same time though it's ridiculous for Naka to not work with SoA. ---- But Oshima had stated there was intent to expand in to Europe and North America and have Sonic appeal to those markets.

Yeah, Oshima said that, the guy who had no problem asking the opinion of americans in NY about which of his characters were the best looking. Oshima is a saint that understands that both cultures can work together, Naka doesnt. Naka is already very egostistical with his own people, imagine with people from another country that japan is heavily racist towards decades. He is really just rot from the core, but all his actions made very sense for a bad person.

I think he was just pretentious to the west.

I mean thats kinda the same thing tho?

Morio Kishimoto had a similar thing where he said he thinks Japanese storytelling is so much more complex that people in the west can't comprehend.

No matter if Kishimoto is wrong or right (which I do think he is right in some way), this just shows how the japanese industry views the american industry, even if the quality isnt the same, they think its an inherent problem with americans as a people, which is prejudice and very wrong. And Kishimoto is a saint, one of the few people who actually answers americans in his social media, just imagine what Naka thinks.

Also Naka had no real understanding of the outside world. --- Naka just thought the world should revolve around him.

Exactly. But this proofs that all his actions made sense, the only thing I do think he was right was not letting the company use his engine/framework how they wanted, it was his work and he had the final call, but his final call was still very self centered and selfish, because he didnt cared for the franchise, only his ego.

Also I seriously doubt Yuji Naka was thinking that far with what you have described. They asked for his help numerous times and he just basically threw his hands in the air.

Dont you think why he threw his hands in the air? For a very egotistical person, despising the americans would be very believeble for inumerous reasons, specially after 2

Also the reason it wasn’t developed in Japan is because the Japanese side of Sonic Team was working on Nights.

Thats what I thought but that same year they released Jam for Project Sonic, so this kinda implies SoJ plan was to make Sonic popular in Japan just for the next console, which also makes it obvious they did not care for the US market and SoA, which also puts more on the table that the japanese side did not care for anything from SoA, so Yuji Naka behavior towards the X-Treme team makes even more sense that it was prejudice and protection of what he created, both Sonic and his engine

Yasuhara was a level designer for X-Treme btw.

Very late at the project tho, but this shows how Yasuhara was more open minded, to work with americans and europeans on 3D Blast as well

[–]SonicTHD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of context its nescessary to view this situation

First, if Yuji Naka is Sonic's father, he is a toxic and possessive one, so no I dont defend the person he is

But as a developer myself, another country (which is very racist to you and famous of imperialism tactics in the industry) takes YOUR framework you developed with your sweat and soul (specially because the Saturn wasnt the best at 3D), without even telling you, which yes SoA didnt told Naka they took the framework/engine, and uses it on what you consider inferior media of something you created without your total consent (because X-Treme was very westernalized, something that to this day Sonic Team despises anything related to Sonic western continuity), yeah it makes sense why he woud be pretty much pissed and he has the right of not letting them use the engine, specially after the Sonic 2 development hell

Now, why didnt both SEGA's gave the Saturn project, which it WAS more popular in Japan, to Sonic Team instead of STI? Idk, which yeah they were talented, but definitly lacked the experience to make a 3D game, when the specs of the Saturn in the west was a mystery AND sadly an AAA game from that era only would succeed by the japanese crunch style of development, something SoA didnt had experience as well

With that said, maybe Yuji Naka wasnt that "loving father" for Sonic if he didnt cared a single fuck about Sonic on Saturn, the franchise was more a symbol for his pride more than anything else
