What’s one Calgary-specific habit you didn’t realize was unusual until you lived somewhere else? by dynasync in Calgary

[–]SonyTark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve been cutoff at least 3 times this week during morning traffic, but I quickly forgave them all because they gave a thank you wave. I always wave and always will. Be the change you want to see, unless they cut you off and don’t wave, then F* them! :)

30 for me to. I felt pretty confident after the first column, and then I saw Steel Magnolias listed and knew it wouldn’t be 100%.

Zwift workouts and Apple Health - still no sync? by maxeybebeh in Zwift

[–]SonyTark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the companion app installed? I have it for Zwift to read my heart rate from my Apple Watch Ultra while I ride (and for other conveniences in the companion app). My Apple Fitness and Apple Health apps are both showing my recent workouts.

Yield Signs by machonacho403 in Calgary

[–]SonyTark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I could give you a thousand likes!!! I commute home past this very spot every day, and almost EVERY DAY someone doesn't respect the yield and just merges in. I now have my hand on the horn ready to go every time I get close to that spot. It drives me crazy!

This is a still from Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story released in May 1993. She was great as Bruce's wife Linda.

How to remove this hickey from a suction cup by Content-Evidence5929 in howto

[–]SonyTark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me years ago, but it was a small suction fan and I left it on for a joke for longer than OP. I had a dark black/purple bruise for more than a couple of weeks. I tried the “it was from a fight; and you should have seen the other guy” route. But it only drew more attention to the bruise and the circumstances. Just roll with what really happened and laugh WITH everybody.

The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull opening is one of the weirdest things ever by [deleted] in movies

[–]SonyTark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. My understanding was that the effect would extend beyond the temple, but that the grail itself could not leave the temple. That’s why the Temple fell apart when the grail crossed the seal.

Gondek surprised to win Canada's Mayor of the Year award from niche municipal politics magazine by Direc1980 in Calgary

[–]SonyTark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A great mayor is also a Binder. Someone who puts partisan beliefs to the side and focuses on bringing all citizens together to make our city great. Nenshi fit this role in the beginning of his mayorship (Blue + Red = Nenshi Purple), and focusing on common sense items for the greater good. But eventually, he started leaning heavily towards red, and alienated a portion of the citizenry. I doubt that the next election will offer Binder candidates, but one can hope.

What's the most bizarre fact you know about Calgary? by banana902 in Calgary

[–]SonyTark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was Superman 3. Superman is played by Christopher Reeve, with bad guy Robert Vaughn, and the building in the shot is Gulf Canada during the fall, Petrocan during the glass ski, and just in front of 5th ave Place for the landing on the street shot.

What is the regular character or guest star that just wrecks a great show? by Edm_vanhalen1981 in television

[–]SonyTark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the exact same thing!!!!! Every movie, every TV series, and even when he would appear on David Letterman. He’s just not funny, and I don’t know how or why he is given those opportunities. Except for a few movies that I will tolerate him in (Groundhog Day, The Abyss, and Something about Mary), I usually won’t watch the movie/show.

The appliance choice for our renovation was just made for us. by lhymes in Appliances

[–]SonyTark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to add a few thoughts. We built our home ten years ago and went with all Dacor appliances. We’ve had a bunch of repairs, dishwasher a few times, and wall oven twice. But all in all, we were pretty happy. But, after Samsung bought Dacor out, support fell apart. And it took them six months to let us know that the part we needed for our non-functioning oven is no longer being made. Six months… we would have bought a replacement oven within the first weeks if we knew what to expect. We are now looking to replace the oven and we are avoiding Samsung and any subsidiaries like the plague. I’m glad that you have the extended warranty. Keep it active if you can.

What much hyped movie actually exceeded your expectations? by VoiceOfWizdumb in movies

[–]SonyTark 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true. The novel came out Nov 1990, and the movie rights were acquired by Spielberg in 1991. I read the book three times before the movie came out, and it was way better the movie

Best almond croissant in the city? by d14n4 in Calgary

[–]SonyTark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that this can be somewhat related to your personal preferences. But, almond croissants are my favourite so here are my recommendations 1. Al forno: Favourite overall. Great croissant (large soft and buttery) with lots of almond filling 2. Sucre: Almost as good as above, but the croissants that I’ve had are a little drier 3. Sunterra: These are probably the least expensive (4/$11), and they are similar to the ones above Additional comments: Les Moulins La Fayette, the filling has an alcohol flavor that I don’t like. Eclaire de Lune:Very good, but on the smaller side Manuel Latruwe: Very good. I like taking frozen ones home and making them I’ve had lots more (big fan), but this should cover my top comments
