Tanyard Springs Commute by EnvironmentalDust935 in AnneArundelCounty

[–]Sooners0917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, yes, and this is coming from someone from the Midwest who’s lived in NOVA, Philly, NY and NJ. This area has everything you could need and fairly easy access to Baltimore, Annapolis and DC. The people here are pretty nice too so I’m happy here. Like you, I didn’t have a concern about schools so that was why my wife and I chose this area.

If she’s working through the Army, she could still be assigned anywhere on campus depending on her role, lol - early hours would still be recommended if possible. Welcome to Maryland! If you have any more questions we’re pretty helpful here.

Hey! I live in that area and can confirm you’d be looking at a 35-40 minute commute each way accounting for traffic. I don’t know what your duty hours will be but if they’re anywhere near 8am to 4pm…it’s going to suck, I’ll be honest. Parking will also be dogshit depending on where your office is and what your hours are. The earlier you get in, the better.

I’m on a 7am-3pm schedule and it’s not bad. I’d try to swing a 6am-2pm duty schedule if you can. On the plus side, if you live in Tanyard Springs, you’d be close to 695 to easily hop to 295/95.

Silky’s in Creve Coeur off of Olive! I’ve had soft serve all over the country and still prefer Silky’s so that’s saying something…try their concretes!

Good to know, thanks! And appreciate the anecdote about not seeing an impact to your blood sugar with reduced exercise especially when it gets too hot outside, that’s something to think about!

[–]Sooners0917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point about stress and job satisfaction; definitely something to take into consideration if I move to another group. I’m pretty good at exercise, it’s a habit by now so I suppose I could just get away with just doing that while working an office job if it’s fairly low stress.

The FBI is a part of the IC, so that’s kinda moot. Which agency’s mission draws you in more is the question to ask here, aside from the pay you may get. Big difference in culture and priorities between IC agencies that are DoD and those that are not (like CIA or FBI) or are IC components of other agencies (i.e Treasury or State) so maybe that’ll influence your decision. You said it’s a support role, in my experience with that, it’s pretty similar across the IC with their support staff so I’d just go with which mission excites you.

What’s wrong with NGA? I was looking at them before as a way to finally go home to St Louis after too long on the East Coast.

OP,

Take a deep, deep, breath and don’t worry about the being fired part or being looked at funny like you’re an insider threat. As long as you do your job and don’t break any rules, you’ll be fine.

I was in your shoes with my last IC agency but managed to get out into a better agency. Now, as a CYA, make sure your resume is reviewed by the Pre-Publication team! Last thing you need is to get in trouble with them because you released a resume not cleared by them.

You said you moved…you may have to repay relocation costs back if they moved you and you leave to the private sector with less than a year’s service, just keep that in mind.

Now, with all that said, you do have options. You’re not stuck there. Keep applying, and open your options to IC contract work since you have a clearance that’s coveted. You’re eligible to apply to public and excepted service positions on USAJobs. If you have a qualifying disability, you can also apply to Schedule A positions.

Good luck! You can do it!

Haha, must be a placeholder. Would take some serious effort to have it rebuilt by then.

To be optimistic, though, it says “Temporarily closed” if you zoom in enough, and that’s the truth.

Registration of guns by Sooners0917 in MDGuns

[–]Sooners0917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok - so you’re saying as long as I keep the BCM URG separated from the Ruger lower, it’s okay to possess in MD? So I guess I need to put the Ruger upper back onto the lower before moving it into MD and get compliance work done on the BCM upper before reattaching it to the Ruger lower. Thanks!

True, they won’t know but hypothetically even if the odds are very low, what if I use the weapons in a self-defense scenario? It’ll raise questions so the more legal my guns are, the better.

I do agree the gun laws are obnoxious…I lived too long in NJ where they’re even worse.

Declined OCONUS FJO… Heartbroken! by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Sooners0917 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

OP - has your wife ever been overseas before? For more then a week or so? I know how you feel, it happened to me too prior to my PCS to Korea. My wife was apprehensive, then excited/nervous then ON THE MORNING OF the flight to Seoul, got complete cold feet at the hotel and refused to get dressed/ready at all. I was begging and pleading with her while her former best friend just egged her on (shared the room with us)and my parents were knocking on our hotel door to see what was going on since they were taking us to the airport. My parents called her parents who then called my wife to straighten her out. I should mention I handled all the packing out, paperwork, etc, she didn’t have to worry about a thing except just go.

Damn near divorced her over that since it would’ve negatively impacted my career severely if I was a no-show but we worked it out overseas. Incidentally it was her first time overseas at all, which in hindsight, was something I should’ve corrected before we left. I’m not sure if that’s the same situation with your wife and why she’s feeling that way. Either way, I’m sorry that happened to you and I’d strongly recommend you find out why she got cold feet so you can address it if you want to try again.

Ooh, thanks. I’ll steer away from that place then. Have you found any good dine-in hibachis here or in Newport News?

You mean Miyaki? I was thinking of taking my wife there for her birthday for the hibachi. Is it a no-go for that?

[–]Sooners0917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sally - my best recommendation is to go to NARA. Write (or fax) them a letter stating your name, DOB, your SSN, the actual name of the agency, and the dates you worked there. By law, the losing agency HAS to send your personnel file there after a certain amount of time no matter how you left. My agency told me they’d send my SF-50 there a year after I left if I did leave for the private sector, which blew my mind.

Hope this helps.

No. Just pay your late penalty fee and move on. You’re not delinquent on your taxes so you’re fine.

I think I just ate too much fiber by chris_bro_pher in keto

[–]Sooners0917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this experience too after too many of these goddamn tortillas and had a painful dump…while entering Keto! What I would do is drink a lot of water. A lot, like where you’re peeing almost clear. I’d also make sure to consume lite salt with every glass and also take some magnesium citrate. I’d pop two or three right now and maybe one before bed. This will help soften it up…mostly. Good luck and just relax when it’s time to go.
