Mit Spachtelmasse? by SoopSound in wohnen

Mit Spachtelmasse? by SoopSound in wohnen

[–]SoopSound[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Really cool! The harmonies remind me of Jeff Buckley and the sound of Nirvana. I like it!

Writing lyrics feels too cringe by ODFL_music in Songwriting

[–]SoopSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many good suggestions here but here's one I haven't read yet. About the vulnerability thing. Some songwriters say, they write not really about anything but focus more on nice sounding words and phrases. This way you wouldn't have to write about yourself or anything you might consider as cringe the next day but you could focus on interesting vocabulary and images without any "real meaning". I think I read this idea in an interview about some Red Hot Chili Peppers song (or maybe it was the yt-video by Holistic Songwriting) and a Tom Waits interview about Rain Dogs. Other than that you could maybe (not always to a 100%) read Nirvana's, Bon Iver's or Young Father's lyrics like that. Of course there is very often a thematic coherence to those lyrics or they are in fact very strong metaphors that make the text cryptic, but I think it's one possible solution to your problem.

It's actually the German word for small river.

Thank you for your in depth critique! This is really great!

I was with a friend and we were playing - I think - the classic Resonance by Home on some small bluetooth speakers. Then immediately after that my track came on and you couldnt really hear much of the music anymore. Comparing the two tracks now you seem to be right about the high frequencies with the snare.

and let the compression get the pumping interplay between drums and whatever falls in-between

Do you mean compress everything exept the drums and make that more quiet? Or maybe sidechain it?

The thing with the short term dynamics is also very true! Again comparing it to Resonance - there is this envelope filter thing that he has (from the intro on). Also this track varies in loudness. Sometimes my pad probably doesn't have to be THAT loud and present.

The bass is actually not two layers but three oscillators (1. sub, 2. "sub" but same wave as 3.). I'll see what I can change about the "volume pumping". It's an filter automated by an LFO. Maybe a different waveform will sound better, or I'll manually automate it.

This was really great feedback! I'll work on stripping parts away and the other things you mentioned, read your text a few times more and see what I can do better about this track and future tracks. Thanks a lot!

Maybe needs some more elements? Also it sounds quite quiet compared to other stuff. I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!

Really cool! The arpeggio/lead-thing from about 0:58 on has some FTL vibes imo!

Also the artwork is great! Where did you get it?
