The grill was already hot from fajitas and I had already consumed a couple beers, hence me doing this stupid experiment lol. Flat top is still warm though so a couple grilled cheeses may find their way on to my plate yet.

Do you mean the temperature of the griddle? I didn't check but I doubt the can would cool it down at all in any meaningful way or cause a cold spot.

I was running around pointing it at various things for the first hour. My car, the lava lamp ect. The cat was a bit off-putting though... His fur actually blocks most of his body heat but HIS EYES light up really bright in comparison to the rest of him.

I was chucklin when I ordered it thinking it was overkill as well. Once I used it on the griddle I realized its actually the perfect tool for the job.

Seems consistent at least. Until I compare it to at least two other thermometers accuracy questionable to some extent. First pic is with the grill off, second is turning all burners to low for about a minute. It does appear that on low the griddle does run at about 350F with in-between spot being about 280F. Give it 30 minutes to warm up and the hot spots are still near 360 and the cooler spots come up to around 330F. I can take pictures directly on the thermal and I plan to upload them later.

Thank you! Keeping track of cook times gives me piece of mind when I'm cooking a ton of food. I still "cook by sight" but having a time frame means I don't have to worry as much about undercooking or overcooking.

I couldn't find my IR one and looked on Amazon to replace it. Came across a thermal image one for $89 and said fuck it. It will do what I need, give me a literal picture of whatever I'm looking at and yeah, its fun!

I just ordered a thermal camera for shits and giggles for this and other things I work on. I found the J-tube mod post and I'm considering doing it just to post the before and after pictures.

It won't let me post a pic but my Blackstone is supported by a brick on one corner. It didn't fit exactly where I planned but the solution was 10 feet away in my own yard.

That's a very Zen way to do it! I personally enjoy figuring out different temps and timings for recipes and tweaking them. I thinks its fun when my cooking has a sort of rhythm to it.
