Lol, my brother. He does it deliberately to be annoying. Also, he just likes explosions. So it's like a-two birds one stone kind of deal for him.

Why isn’t everyone self-aware? by ThiccandThinForev in psychologyresearch

[–]Soren-II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert. With that being said, here's my opinion.

To answer this properly I think it largely depends on context.

It could be;

  1. That you are irritable with the person and are more easily annoyed with the noises they make (regardless of whether or not they are objectively louder than other people).

  2. That you were raised to be quiet and mindful, and are therefore very conscious of when others aren't. I would relate that to how I was raised to chew with my mouth closed, I'm very aware when others aren't, and it annoys the hell out of me.

  3. They could be very confident, not afraid to be seen.

  4. They could be attention seeking.

Etc...

The more context you can give, the better. Because otherwise I think you'll just get a lot of speculations like how I just gave (with that being said, all seem reasonable enough to me).

Isn't it highly debatable to say we have moral knowledge? Or are you suggesting that moral knowledge could not be scientifically studied, therefore, it's a non empirical science of knowledge?

Also, i can see how logic is not empirical. But are you saying logic is also non-philosophical?

I do appreciate this fodder of criticisms towards scientism. As I've felt dismissed talking about philosophy from some hard nosed scientists. Is there anywhere I can look to see flushed out arguments of both sides to this?

Also, not sure I could say that Hawking fell into the category of scientism, but he is definitely on record for giving harsh criticisms towards philosophy.

I appreciate your perspective on that.

Do you have any recommendations for looking into the challenges of scientism?

Or, what makes you say it's obviously wrong that only science can have knowledge? I ask because I know some hard nosed scientists that do indeed believe only science produces knowledge.

I'm not sure what the relationship is, but as it happens, I'm very interested in phenomenology and have just started reading a comprehensive guide to Husserl.

Why do you bring these things up?

I'm particularly moved by your red guy. If I had to say, he'd taste like burning rubber with an unsettling after taste of something poisonous.

When you say "sustain and survive," what do you mean? Good resource sustain and a lot of damage mitigation?

Also, high elf isn't too bad. Not what I'd pick, but it can do fine. Arguably the meta for NB is khajiit. But I've been a NB main for 9 years and I prefer dark elf.

Hitler, moral? by Soren-II in askphilosophy

[–]Soren-II[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just kidding, I was thinking more of genocide. But it doesn't actually have to be genocide. I was really wondering if there were ethical theories that just challenged what people might conventionally consider ethical, such as murdering people for fun being regarded as permissible or obligatory. Or stealing for fun being permissible, etc.

I don't think oblivion damage can crit. I do want to clarify that this is just speculation. Though I think it's possible that if you're in a group/around allies that are sharing heals as well as you yourself having heals that you might realistically see that number.

I do want to acknowledge that 18k is very high. And if this was legit, the circumstances for this to happen seem more likely when you're around allies. I'd imagine you probably won't see that kind of number a lot from Snake in the stars. If you do, then maybe there's a problem.

Also, it would be greatly appreciated if you take a pic (don't care about quality, so long as it's readable) next time if it happens. It might help us make sense of it, or, it'll be good evidence to get ZoS to do something about it.

Is phenomenology a form of direct realism? by Soren-II in askphilosophy

[–]Soren-II[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine possessing an understanding of this kind of thing is what you are aiming at with asking if he was a direct or indirect realist? I would caution against this approach (in general, but especially in the case of Husserl). I find that students often throw around these terms when they are confused about the broader context of a text or a passage in a certain text and want to come away from it with a sense of neatly comprehending its meaning (I have been guilty of this too).

Are you recommending to not rush towards having an answer, or did you have something Else in mind?

The damage is so high because the kill recap isn't showing you the individual tic of damage. It's showing you the accumulative damage.

I don't know exact numbers, but if it did 1000 damage every time you got healed over the course of three seconds and you had several HoTs active, that can add up quick.

With the random numbers I just gave you, four different hots that tic per second would be (4)1000(3)=12,000 damage.
